Your engineering skills crafting the shelter are among the best I've ever seen. I built a similar shelter in a grove of saplings, cutting the dense growth out of the middle and then bending the living saplings together at the top to form my teepee. I used rocks and clay at the base as you did and interwove the saplings that I cut out of the center to form my wall structure. it was the strongest, warmest shelter I've ever built. The cold wind howled outside but I was snug as a bug! If you use these shelters more than one season it is important to smoke them thoroughly to evict spiders and other crawlies. Built a small fire, cover with evergreen or cedar boughs and let it smoke for a couple of hours. You will be amazed at all of the critters that will leave. This will leave you with a 100% bug free shelter. In the summer you may need to do this every couple of weeks. This works to expel ticks, chiggers and fleas as well. . very important! I built a fire pit in the middle and dug an underground vent channel to the outside to bring fresh air to the fire, topped with flat stones and then buried beneath the floor of the shelter. I vented through a smoke hole in the top that I had a flap on a long pole that I could open or close. It was very similar to the Sioux, Comanche, Shoshone and Kiowa Teepee's of my ancestors. You can control the burn rate and heat of the fire by placing a stone in the channel and restricting the air amount going to the fire to suit your needs for heat or cooking. Done correctly, and burning the correct fuels you will have a virtually smoke free teepee. Having two or three vent intakes from different directions is ideal and will let you control the air intake from strong prevailing winds. Its a ton of work, but the shelter will be heated evenly unlike a chimney fireplace. Comfort is king when the cold winds come!
