These vans were sold in canada in the early 80s, same styling never knew the name though, my uncle was a toyota sales rep back then and even was in a toyota jump commercial. He sold one to my grandmothers then boyfriend and they came to visit us. I have always wanted one since then, that was in 1983.
Not my favourite engine, but they do go for ages. We have one at work, (where it's basically only driven in 1st and 2nd gear - it's a port hack - and it's done well over 300K) Unfortunately, the Timing-belt warning light is on constantly. Dunno if it's gonna get any love, but the body is in amazing condition - it lives at the port, with all that lovely salt air blowing over it...
JDM Hiace 4x2 converted to LEFT HAND DRIVE in the Philippines and converted into ambulances. LHD HIACE only have parking brakes at the front but RHD hiace beside the driver’s seat

I want one. They cost a pretty penny here in the states but this would make a great road trip/overland rig. The rear sunroofs remind me of my first car, 1992 Oldsmobile custom cruiser wagon. It had a rear moonroof but they made them so they don’t open. ✌🏼🇺🇸🇯🇵🍻
Hey mate, does it have a lot more room behind the drivers seat than the Granvia for a camper conversion? I don't really like the engine under the drivers seat, but I suspect that gives the Super Custom something like 25cm of extra interior space? Thanks!
I don't have the exact measurements for behind the driver's seat right now, but in terms of total interior space the typical HiAce 100 is longer at 3155×1525×1345 while the Granvia is 2910×1635×1375. The latter is wider and has slightly more head space though!
All ways love my Toyotas , been thinking about one of these for a last minute or weekend get a camping rig for my dog and I but their kind a pricy the ones Ive been finding .
Nice Video. I'm considering buying one of these after living in SE Asia and experiencing them first hand. There, they use them for transport a great deal. So I'm assuming they are very reliable? I live in Northern California - SF Bay Area. Is there a particular model you recommend? I would like to use it for road trips in the US. I'm thinking of doing a cross country trip. Would something like this be suitable? Thanks!
no sir, it has to be converted... all HIACE Super custom here are converted into LHD from RHD..but it's not as cheap as before.. til now these units still dominate the road of the Philippines.
Only problem with the Hiace model in this video, the 3ltr 1KZ engine crack their cylinder heads between the valves and arround the glow plugs.Very expensive repair.Great engine except the badly designed engine head.

The moon roof was perfect for its head to stick out
Best comment I’ve ever seen on RUclips
Wasn't expecting to read that on this video. Sounds like a cool story though
I love the curtains and the triple moon roof. I could see myself camping out in the back of one of those for a couple nights.
My 86 Hiace has 390,000 Km's and when not in lockdown I take it camping regularly, cheers!
Now i want one to go metal detecting too!
I Saw This Vid On Instagram And I Immediately Come Here, Great Video! Subcribed
Thanks!!
Great vehicles, especially the AWD/4WD versions, can go some really crazy places!
His video is so relaxing, idk why. love it👍
One of the best-looking Hi Aces, (depending on the front-end treatment), and yes, they're still stolen in NZ.
Looks like my 1984 Toyota Van LE.
Droved it for 22 years!

Why can’t all Hiace videos be this short yet Very informative, 👍🏿

The Timing belt warning light goes off every 100k km. You can switch it off.
Good review! Excellent car!
Do you have any repop side decals available for this van? Mine are all faded!

I have my eye on one through an importer. They're so fucking cool
So, I'm looking to buy one of these and drive around Australia with, how reliable are they and would it be possible to get parts if it broke down?
The engine is incredibly reliable. Basic parts are easy to source, but some others will take time, effort, and luck!
Can anyone tell me how tall and wide the 4th gen Hiace’s rear hatch opening is? I need to know the tolerances, but can’t find anything online.
What's the fuel consumption in these things and how long can they last? mileage roughly?
Nice video. Do you have a comparison video between the HIACE and DELICA?
Great idea! I'll do my best!
Sir where’s the obd port location?
What an excellent van!
where is the obd port located
Can anyone tell me if the TURBO diesel engine was available in the early hiace with locking front hubs??
If we're talking about the HiAce 100 series, I don't believe so since the 1KZ-TE x 4WD combo was offered only as full-time 4WD (AWD).
You speak of high maintenance costs. Can you be specific? I’m considering buying one. Thx 😊
what mpg do you get?

where did you buy the digital panel display? is it fit on toyota granvia 1999 model?
It's standard on some HiAces. I do not know if they are compatible with the Granvias.

Hello from Kyushu. I am actually looking for one of these vehicles to convert to a camper. Can you sell to customers in Japan?
Hi Dave, please contact me at dan@myretrovans.com
How are these on the highway? I was thinking about getting one for a work van and do a lot of highway driving. Thoughts?
They are excellent for the highways comfort and power wise!!
i have 1994 hiace super custom...speed and power aint a problem...
I thought all standard H100s could rotate the second row. Is this not the case?
Yes it can. I have the same van and seats just a 97 model.
what’s best - hiace or granvia?
They’re different. You sit higher in the HiAce and it’s more exciting to drive, while the Granvia is more comfortable and easy going.
We have the same type of that van, how to replace reverse light thanks
do you have the parts already??
Yes , i mean how to replace the bulb inside the reverse light haha, it so difficult to find on how to remove the reverse light on back door lol
why my van diesel not fuel economy?
what should i do?
Are you always in ECT power mode??
