Great to have SSoC back! A must buy.
Once it sinks in that Conan is the damsel in distress of the first story, it's hard to appreciate it. It's Conan for crying out loud, Conan.... The main story artwork was a little wonky. Also, agree the issue was way too muddy to be properly enjoyed.

Just found your channel. Back in September I read my first Conan short story collection. It was a sprague de kamp edition which was probably not the best way to start my Conan journey. But I did like some of the stories. I also read some Solomon Kane stories and liked them a lot better. I also watched the Solomon Kane film.

Interesting. I read the digital version on my tablet. It is a dark story but it looks a lot better than the print version. It seems that the printing couldn’t handle the sharp lines and details in the digitally produced images. That is a shame, as the version I read was fantastic.
Hello Michael, yes, digital reproductions are almost always better. But I'm so old school I had to have the print version. The map was the first clue they had a problem. I really hope they can make this magazine work. Thanks for checking in!
Finally, someone else that doesn't love the way this was printed. I did my own review and I spent a long time talking about it in my review. I think that the decision to use newsprint was late in the game, since it was announced on twitter about a week before the book came out, and that the artists, didn't take it into account when creating their artwork, which is why the Belit pinup, and the dragon horde story have so many issues. I blame it on the use of newsprint and the fact that artists didn't take it into account correctly, but who knows.

I agree with you completely. The treatment of grey scales were SO horrendous...extra tragic over what were strong stories. In the old Savage Sword the grey washes were put in by hand allowing them a greater sense of how it would print out on paper. I blame current editorial practices for not doing physical proofs before going to press. I predict it will get a little better with the next issue or two as they actually look at their physical copies.

I agree. The printed magazine is too muddy and dark. The e-book version looks terrific.

Apparently the Conan story was done in color. Thus the bad printing.

Shame about the problem with the grayscale. Still looks like an interesting comic though. The paper edition is already out of print apparently! I managed to get a copy but had to pay more than you did for it. It's looking like it's shaping up to be a big year for Conan and Sword & Sorcery in general.

B&W is my preference for story telling, but that grey filter they put on everything is cheap. Thought you were being picky until you showed a panel.
Have you read/ seen/ heard of Mort Cinder?
Or Corto Maltese?
Alberto Breccia and Hugo Pratt respectively.
They have opposing styles but their panels contain a ton of depth.
