I really enjoy the running gags, banter, humor so more plot cutscenes usually gives room include them. I think the general structure is very good and if there's something extra to add it's always a bonus, but not mandatory!
I would like to see the early magma and aqua interactions to help with the lore building. For me the world building is what makes your runs more engaging - in crystal we have the secretpotion lore, threedrill, the liar with the fliers etc Also keep the final Wally battle for that belter of a theme 😂
Generally, I think it's better to keep the battle footage to bosses or an otherwise noteworthy encounter due to weird RNG or whatever. It helps keep the pace of the video flow better overall.
Personally I would like if you would leave in a little bit more of the story and major fights (like Wally) just so it’s alittle clearer what your pathing is. I also just like having the story in the runs.
I've been trying to keep in a bit more of the story in with the Emerald videos - in the new year, I'll be plonking in the first Wally fight if the video's flow would be helped by it!
I've been hoping for an Onix solo run from someone. I've even considered making a video for that run myself. I'm excited because it looks like your approach will eventually lead to that run's finally seeing the light of day!🎉
I can't make any promises as to when Onix will be, but it's planned to have its own run in Crystal at the very least. I've put it on my January recording list, and if I get it over the line on that attempt, it'll be out at some point early next year!
I'd love to see more of the grunt battles to add a little bit more to the videos, but then again I can why some people would want then cut out since they're really weak and only worth showing with a Pokemon that struggles throughout the game. Great content Squidgy!
@Squidgy wait until you use the good stuff in emerald Blastoise is laughable compared to kyogre swampert gyarados and crawdaunt Normal types are really strong in gen 3 Fighting types are HERE thanks to Dr. Bulk up Oo Venasaur is tier 2 and is good but you have not seen great Great is when you wonder how they allow that through the balance department
Good video and a solid run! No issue with showing easier evil team battles if they pair up with storytelling. If youre up to more grass type runs I predict that Breloom would be strong.
Breloom is absolutely part of the plan! I'm not sure when it'll be getting its video, but my idea is to pair the video with a Breloom backport in Crystal at roughly the same time.
That was a tough question to answer! I'd have to go for the Magcargo sprites - in Generation II, there's a phenomenal amount of detail considering the limitations of the GBC.
It's notorious how Emerald is more difficult and a longer game than Crystal. I'd say Squidgy played really well with a grass-type, considering Venyssaur is the best grass-type in the game. I don't think though the other grass-types would do as well. There may be a chance though, that is, betting on another type of moves for better coverage. No doubt Emerald is a tougher challenge. For sure, this series is gonna be most interesting!
I think for the Aqua & Magma fights, maybe show the first encounter with them or leave it for the Admins & Boss fights, unless like in a previous comment, something goes wrong! I look forward to seeing more Emerald videos!
Never realized how much Wallace looked like Drake 😉 I'd personally skip some of the grunt battles, just because they are so weak and have uninteresting team compositions, but I can see keeping them for storyline purposes.
The only gen 1 starter that has aged quite well through the years without GameFreak giving it every single available gimmick to keep it relevant. The grass type is overall quite underrated. 9 gens and we still don’t have a box legendary with that type despite it being one of the “main” ones
Somebody at Game Freak loves the Venusaur line, and I'm glad they do - it's a solid Pokémon even in newer generations, and I think it got a very good time! I am VERY surprised there still isn't a box-art legendary with the Grass type. Hopefully Gen 10 will change that!
Sleep n setup is really strong together Honestly you could have shaved 5 to 10 minutes off wattson split You didn't need to train at all since you resist n have Sleep powder and leech seed The only reason blastoise got stuck was blastoise is HARD COUNTERED by fast electric types in general (Wait till you run kyogre you literally one shot the entire game)
I wonder if grabbing leftovers from the SS tidal would help with the Steven battle? It would help to have some passive recovery while the opponent is taking a snooze 😴
That's an excellent shout! Thanks for reminding me they're there! I've pre-recorded my next two Emerald challenges, but I'll be grabbing them in all future recordings! :)
It's all part of the learning process. I'm going to be playing the Emerald and FireRed challenges in a very cautious way until I'm more familiar with the Gen III engine.
Please don't be sorry for pointing that out! It's gonna be like that for another video, as it's already been pre-made, but it's sorted for December onwards! :)
You could easy have won against Steven at a lower level and much faster. The same goes for the leauge. Against the first Dusclops and Shelgon you should always set-up. Because they will most likely go for protect. And so will Winonas Pelipper.
I'm sure I can beat Steven quicker and much faster, but as I mention in the voiceover, I am still learning the game. This is only my second challenge run in Emerald, so there are going to be places I can optomise. If you look at my Crystal times two years ago and compare them to now, you'll see a huge difference, and I'm sure we'll see the same difference in Emerald in a couple of games.
I wish moves like “return” “hidden power” etc were not used in these runs. Why say, “only using this unique Pokemon” but then not using its natural moveset? Using their learned movesets only will actually make these more interesting because finally we won’t just assume the challenge can be done. Pokemon who rely on double team can use it if it’s their natural learned moves. Hidden power and the like are gimmicks.
Before the Video begins, I am going to make the prediction that Venusaur is going to have a very easy time.
I really enjoy the running gags, banter, humor so more plot cutscenes usually gives room include them. I think the general structure is very good and if there's something extra to add it's always a bonus, but not mandatory!
Woop woop! Bring on January! :) I ❤ Gen 3
Hearing you say "father" like that reminds me of that scene from the it crowd iykyk lol
There are so much fun! I love seeing the difference in the play throughs as you learn the games!
As someone who very much enjoyed your old style of editing, more plot lines / major team magma/aqua battles sounds good
Seconded. It may also help with establishing a lore
I love that the Taillow is named "Kenya?" 😆
I echo the call for as much 'extra' story editing as you can handle! Makes great lore and atmosphere.
I will never say ‘no’ to more content! Keep those early fights against the grunts in!
I love the way you say father at 8:05

The gen 3 Venusaur back sprite looks so good
Is the music from ORAS? Because im loving it!
Edit: definitely ORAS! I recognize Zinnia's theme.
Yup! I decided to go for the ORAS music to give me a bit more flexibility with the soundtrack.
@Squidgy wait until you use the good stuff in emerald

8:57 Smelly Shelly cracks me up!
I make sure to catch every upload and almost every live😎thanks Squidgy

18:23 "intimidate all over the place in gen 2" played a lot of Crystal I see :D
Out of all the Pokémon you have ran so far what's your favourite sprite ? And another great video can't get enough
That was a tough question to answer!
I'd have to go for the Magcargo sprites - in Generation II, there's a phenomenal amount of detail considering the limitations of the GBC.
Not too worried about the editing however if you ever take out that adorable cable car ride I'll riot
The Cable Car is a permanent fixture of the videos!
@Squidgy you've probably heard it but there's a chance for an Easter egg in that cut scene if you ever see it!
I am holding out hope for that Easter Egg on every single run! I think it's a 1/50 chance, so it'll reasonably happen!
Sleep strats, best strats. Cheesy but it works. Of course the tradeoff is that repeated sleep strats will bloat the time a bit.
Sub strats best starts

Petalburg would've been the perfect name for a city for Erika since her Vileplume knows Petal Dance, but oh well. 😁😁😁
8:10 FFFAAAAATTTHHHHEEEEEEERRRR!
Venasaur did great but Steven Stone as the final opponent really hurt Venasaur as almost half the time was just for him
8:08 was that a Matt Berry impression? :D
Maybe!
venusaur is one of my favorite starters ever, looking forward to seeing what u can do with it in a game with too much water
Venusaur is the best grass type starter Pokemon has to offer.
I would like the longer videos, showing more battles and plot. But it needs to be manageable for you as well
Cool run
I think for the Aqua & Magma fights, maybe show the first encounter with them or leave it for the Admins & Boss fights, unless like in a previous comment, something goes wrong!
I look forward to seeing more Emerald videos!
Horray it’s my fourth favorite Pokémon 🎉 let’s go Bulbasaur #teambulbasaur excited for this one!
Never realized how much Wallace looked like Drake 😉
I'd personally skip some of the grunt battles, just because they are so weak and have uninteresting team compositions, but I can see keeping them for storyline purposes.
Very nice work. Id really like to see the pseudo-legendaries go after the starters. Dragonite first, Tyranitar second, and Metagross third
The only gen 1 starter that has aged quite well through the years without GameFreak giving it every single available gimmick to keep it relevant.

When Venusaur had red health when you fought Steven, you would've won due to overgrow activation
It's all part of the learning process. I'm going to be playing the Emerald and FireRed challenges in a very cautious way until I'm more familiar with the Gen III engine.
21:14 Sorry for pointing that out, but you used Drake's image again instead of Wallace's.
Please don't be sorry for pointing that out!
It's gonna be like that for another video, as it's already been pre-made, but it's sorted for December onwards! :)
@@Squidgy Okey, thanks for understanding and keep gaining lots of subscribers, I love your videos! c:
Grass type Pokémon is even better in 1st Gen with broken sleep powder and growth causing badge boost glitches.
Personally I'd like to see Jumpluff in both gen 3 games. Always enjoyed using it myself and I'd like to see how it performs
I've got plans for Jumpluff in the Spring!
I'd say skip the early battles unless something goes wrong.

Ivysaur has best design of the trio. It has also decent stats. Could have not been evolved.
The middle stages will get their chance to shine at some point, but at the moment in Emerald, the focus is on the full evolutionary lines
