Thanks for showing us DIYers that it can be done without fancy presses. You made it look really easy and I now feel more confident about cutting it off.
Glad it helped!
Thanks
Back in the old days they used to have one spline that was bigger , that way you couldn’t put them together wrong , that was a great idea , if they stopped doing that , that’s just crazy.
But mine is bad now and I was just seeing if it was anything like the old days and been a long time since I’ve done one , just needed a refresher. It’s all coming back to me now , along with all of the bad language I used to use while doing this.
👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
Great video! Enjoy listening to the birds in the background, better than music!
Thank you for your time young man.
Glad it helped
Good job taking the time to experiment and share your video, one thing I don't recommend is taking the guard off the grinder, when you do that you're putting your self at risk, you could cut yourself with the exposed area of the cut off wheel that goes toward your hands.
Especially for those who aren't familiar with grinders, it's better and safer to use a dremel with a cut off wheel its safer and smaller, It will not cut your drive line and or your fingers.. Good job tough.
Even 3years later ur video is helping however after I finished I realized I forgot to install this ring that goes on after you install the bearing mine was different and didn't have that cup
Hey man I never would've had the confidence to cut this bearing off without watching your video. I did it today and it went way better than I had anticipated. I cut within about a 1/16" of the axle with a grinder and a couple taps with a coal chisel cracked it right open! Much appreciation for you!!
Im glad it helped!
Nice job!! Im glad theres an alternate when u dont have a press and puller.
The sound of speeded up tools is oddly satisfying
Bro,
Get a guard for the angle grinder
Before you wear the disc in your face
& eat soup for rest of your life.
Face guard too, PPE…all of it
Cheers,
Rob
No need to mark the driveshaft, it only goes on one way. It has a double spline on it to line it back up
seems like all auto parts are calling for the smaller diameter by default. Chances are if you have the 2500 you probably have the 40mm
GOOD TO SEE TECH'S WHO KNOW HOW TO IMPROVISE . I DO THE SAME WHEN CERTAIN EQUIPMENT IS NOT AVAILABLE . GOOD JOB BUDDY 👍
Thank you!
Great video!
2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD My Allison 5 speed also has bolts for the universal up front and does not have the metal plate.
Thank you
Really 4 ads in this video. Seriously. I hate ads. Boycott commercials.
🤦🏻♂️
Thumbs up. I am handy and was disappointed that I was going to have this done at a shop due to the lack of a press, but this video was great!
This video helped me and my husband, 05 GMC Sierra. Thanks a lot!
Can you provide the part# you used for the carrier bearing need the correct size
You tube. Please stop doing so many ads. Hate comments incoming I imagine.
I always appreciate when people don't waste time in RUclips videos... "Here's the garage my dad built in 1963..."
Thanks man
Glad it helped!
Worked flawlessly thank you bro
Thank you for the video, it helped a great deal, especially cutting off the center support bearing, mine was totally trashed - first time using a grinder - thank you also to DE Walt - great tool.
Your video was awesome. Exactly what I needed for my 2002 1500HD. I tried pulling the old bearing with a bearing puller. After an hour of fighting it I gave up. Attacked it with my grinder. Worked like a charm. The bearing set with the 1 3/4 pipe was perfect. THANKS
Glad it helped!
I have 94 chevy silverado , extended cab, with a 3 part drive shaft, that's 7 feet long, the carrier barron is bad, need to see how you would install that one, so far ,every video I've watched , usa little different than mine, i haven't actually found my exact year stuck, only 91, 92, , the previous owner put posit traction in it!, And I believe that's what caused my carrier barron to come apart, so please help!!
Debes utilizar un extractor, asi dañas el Yoky.
Too many damn ads
This video was very helpful, I liked your camera angles and visually detailed steps. I thought you could work on your monologue, articulating some of the 'hows' and 'whys' of what you're doing need a bit of work. Thanks for the helpful video.
Theres a master spline the 2 pieces only go on one way no point in marking them
Have you ever changed the bearing tbat supports the shaft on the back of the transmission
looks like you could stand to lower the mounting position of that bearing some more?
Thank u sir u was helpful but i forgot to mark mine hopefully all works when i put it back together
Did it work even though you didnt mark it
I took mine apart and did the same thing forgot to mark, we need to know if it still worked!!!!
So mine didn't leak any tranny fluid?? Is that a bad sign?
Hellyeah man definitely helped me out for sure thank you
Thank you! I did just what you showed me and it went perfect. TY TY
Thanks for sharing this. It answered all my questions
I wish the shop I paid to have this done would have watched your video.. they mangled the new one and forgot to reinstall the cup when they installed it. Ended up doing this myself a few months later.
Why is the purpose of the cup?
What do you do if the drive shaft wont disconnect in the middle? Ive put about a can of penetrating oil on it already and it will not budge...
Could you email a picture of it
It was so refreshing to see a tutorial without air tools!!! But I wish like hell I could move that fast!
Thanks for the video. Helped out tremendously.
Dude your shaft between your legs is blue.. better see a doctor 😂😭
Ahahah. Good one
What Is the bearing that you use?
Neat. Thanks.
Where did you find that piece of tubing?
Great info
Slow down speedy lol
Hey man I just replaced all 3 u joints and center bearing on my 03 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD and I put it all back correctly (I’m pretty sure) and I’m getting a vibration around 20-40 mph what could possibly be causing it?
If you accelerate from a stop and go do you feel a vibration. Also was the vibration there before replacing the u-joints
Did you put the drive shaft back together the same way it came apart? (Marked it before dis assembly)?
@johnchamberlin4791 yes I did
@@JaboTheMechanic What ended up causing the vibration?
@@JaboTheMechanic What ended up causing the vibration?
Subbed JABO!!!
Good job my friend
Never replaced a carriage bearing before, followed this video, worked like a champ. Thamk you for this video
Glad it helped
Good job
I payed 280$ for the same problem
1. Get a guard on that grinder.
2. Wear a face shield AND safety glasses. Ever seen a cutoff wheel come apart? It's not pretty.
I am wondering why people do not put anti-seize where the bearing race attached
I guess because its too messy.
Thanks for the video. Literally just got done doing this. I even bought the exhaust pipe but the 12". Worked like a charm. My truck had been making a squealing noise for a year and was able to narrow it down to either u joints or the support bearing. So I bought all 3 u joints and the center support bearing. Pulled driveshaft and all my u joints were good. Bearing rubber was deteriorated and bearing itself felt a little wonky but not gritty like a typical bad bearing. But I replaced it and no more squealing so far. :)
Very nice video.. got it thanks
Glad it helped
About to have to do this to my 01 Sierra. Good informational video. Thanks
Glad it was useful
What Brand is that support bro?
AutoZone
Good job man. ABOUT how long would u say it took you?
I subscribed for you.👍
35mins in total. Thank you for your support!
This is not a do it yourself job. Great video tho.
I have a clunking and it seems to be coming from that center bearing. Would a bear bearing cause that or the u joints?
Thats from the u joints.
@@JaboTheMechanic Thank You.
You are welcome!
When you cut into the race it heated it up and allowed it to come free easier.
Mine didn’t come with the mounting block that goes above the center support,I’ve already been through 3 carrier bearings in a week
You need to make one. Is your truck lifted
It only has the torsion keys up halfway and the rear end is lowered 2”,I replaced the rear end and I decided to change the carrier bearing and it’s been messing up since
Torsion keys are halfway up and 2” drop shackles in the back,I changed my rear end out and went ahead and replaced the carrier bearing and it’s went through 3 since
Sometimes not aligned right. Do you feel a wobble after the new bearing
Is it the same as a 4x4?
Yes
Wish i had seen this video before i replaced mine. I ended up cutting it off as you did.
Where did you buy the exhaust?
Autozone
@@JaboTheMechanic thank you
Good tanks amigó
De nada amigo
Nice video!! What year Silverado did you work on?
Thank you! It is a 2006
NVM.... saw in the comments below. Thanks for the video again.
@@dustinhart2269 no problem anytime! Glad it helped!

what pry tools were you using
You can get them from harbor freight
@@JaboTheMechanic thanks awesome video
Best vid on RUclips about this bearing good job man!
Glad it helped!
this was helpful
It was a pry bar
@@JaboTheMechanic thanks awesome video
Um Zip tie....WRONG!!!!
If you are going to post an instructional video you should do it right.
He gets a pass
Cutting the race is a trick I have had to do on spindles that had welded races. An air powered cut off tool allows for a bit more precision. I'm about to rebuild the whole shaft on my 08 3500HD
I'm In the process of getting the rest of the parts to do this and all new unoints on my 05 duramax, on top of the rear differential assembley torn between swapping the internal from the new assembly to the existing or just putting the whole new assembly in
@@gravedipper Duramax store also offers a 1 piece shaft that eliminates the 2 piece design. I may do that in the future after my SAS
You convinced me to take it to a shop where the have the correct tools to do the job.
Dumbest comment ever! 😂😂😂😂 he did a perfect job they have the same shit except having a press but he did the same out come! Sorry your stupid and can't do it yourself
Thanks man very helpful!
Glad it helped!
What year Chevy?
2005
They are all the same
Thank you so much. I've seen a few vids on this but yours gave me the most confidence
Mine doesnt have the plastic sleeve so I'm not sure how to remove the bearing. I'm at the point of no return because I already dropped the drive shaft
@@JEEPTHING881 could you email me some pictures so i can guide you through it
