    Thanks as always for your thorough run throughout! I love and appreciate the time and effort you put in to allowing the rest of us amateurs play some of these more in depth games. My mom, brother and I (all adults) just finished playing our first two games and I am definitely a fan! May be a little too much for more entry level players, like my mom. She complained that there was just too much for her to think about and try to do, but that was part of the fun for me.

    I hadn't heard of this game until I saw this video, actually. Now it's very much in my radar :)
    Been wanting to get a Legacy game for a while, but they all seem to have a bigger/play often commitment, and are more about reaching a definite goal and being done with it, and feature very progressive and destructive mechanics, so I'm glad we are finally seeing some that are more about the journey towards a unique copy of the game that can be forever played, than a one off campaign. The reset box is also an incredibly smart idea, not only lets you restart the whole thing without buying a full new copy of the game, but it seems like it could also allow you to at the end own 2 unique playing versions of the same game!

    • @Stephen-Fox
      @Stephen-Fox 7 лет назад +1

      What I'm really liking from what we're seeing in this video is how it looks like it's built off of very familiar structures - Simple worker placement, with the roundless soft-block of bumping and place or withdraw as the core gameplay, and building new buildings that anyone can use ala Lords of Waterdeep or (I think) Caylus, but in slow motion, over the course of many games rather than just immediately. I could see that working really well for this style of constructive legacy going forward - The players are working together to build a castle according to the theme? Make the castle building the campaign, rather than making a new castle each game, as long as the game feels complete - that there's enough progress to feel like you've Done Something - on a session by session basis. Which, in turn, should give the game a suitably epic scale associated with... Building a town from the ground up.

    • @jameystegmaier
      @jameystegmaier 7 лет назад +4

      Martin: While the ideal way to play the Charterstone campaign is with the same players, each game is playable at any player count (1-6). So if you have 3 people who can regularly make it and 2 who are less consistent, you can still play through the campaign. The Automa system can actually act on behalf of the missing players in their absence if you want (but it isn't necessary).

    When paying a cost to build something, use charterstone, etc...do the resources/coins used to pay that cost go into the "General Supply" along with the influence tokens? Also, are the things in the General Supply used up and unusable until the next game (ex. the coins, resources, and influence used to pay the cost for the Zeppelin and Charterstone are put into the General Supply and unusable until the next game, and not put back into the piles on the table next to the board) ?

    • @WatchItPlayed

    Hello Rodney, We love your videos, before I get a game we always see one of your videos to be 100% sure. I was wondering, I'm not a fan of Legacy games, but this one in particular got my attention. In one part of your video you say: "in future games that you play will not unlock those new elements, you can continue to play Charterstone just like any other game in your collection and experience it in new ways". My question is: once you finish the 12 game campaign, how's the replayability of this game? I mean, it's already constructed and I want to play it again with all the stuff I put in the whole campaign, so... how can you play it again without having to buy the recharge pack? won't it be the same game? Thanks and please keep doing these videos! Congrats on your awesome work!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  6 лет назад

      Hey Johan, I actively avoid reviewing games on my channel, and trying to assess how replayable this game would be for you would fall into that category, so I can't help you there. I can say that the recharge pack lets you replay the legacy elements of the game again (starting with a blank board and going through the campaign again). But you can also just play the game as a typical board game once you finish the campaign, with everything unlocked, and just trying to compete for the best score (like you would in any other game). How enjoyable you would or wouldn't find that, I can't asses for you. Hope that helps though!

    My gaming group is really interested in getting a legacy game and this is at the top of our list. Buutttt we've never played a worker placement game before. Is this something we can play with never playing that mechanism or should we get another worker placement game to learn the mechanism first and if so which do you recommend for an introduction to worker placement

      Hi Amber, I tend to avoid personalized recommendations, because what works for one person (or group) might not work at all for another. That said, here's a couple other work placement games, that I feel confident saying are widely well regarded - I do recommend doing some research on them to see if they'd appeal to your group: Viticulture (tutorial on this channel), Lords of Waterdeep and Stone Age. We are left with the question of how to pack away the advancement cards and objective cards so we can resume the 2nd game at a later date. it is a bit unclear to us how the second game will be set up. Will we only have the 3 advancement cards that remain at the end of game 1 available at the beginning of game 2?
    Also it is kind of confusing that we were told to pack away resources in our personal area into our charter chest which included unused influence tokens but in another answer we read here we learned that all influence tokens (even used ones) are returned to the players at the start of each game?
    Also did we miss rules 1 thru 3 which are still missing at this point?
    we did read the FAQ, but any help would be appreciated :)

      Hey John, let's see if I can help.
      1) Advancements not stored by a player and objective cards are shuffled and re-dealt at the start of each game.
      2) Players start each game with all their Influence tokens.
      3) Rules 1-3 get introduced as you play (spoilers!)

      Watch It Played that is incorrect the charter chests start with 1 capacity for advancement cards. Also the instructions say to keep all of them after game 1.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  7 лет назад +1

      Keep in mind, in my reply, I stated cards "not stored" are shuffled back into the advancement deck. That said, you are correct, after game 1, you are meant to store everything you still had. After Game 2, you always have to discard everything except what you store. Hope all that wasn't too confusing John!

    • @jameystegmaier

      This is actually one of the reasons why we didn't try to make removable stickers. The stickers in Charterstone aren't going anywhere--they're on the board for good once you place them. Also, we designed the folds on the board so they wouldn't overlap with any stickers.

    I have a question about Capacity. You said "put all your resources in the box", but the card says that I can keep according to my capacity (1). That means I can only keep one resource and one coin? Does that only apply from the end of game 2? Or what you said follows the capacity rules, which means I did not get it? I would like to know.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  7 лет назад +2

      The Capacity rules are introduced at the end of Game 2 (as I recall... Jamey can correct me here, if I'm wrong).

    • @jameystegmaier
      @jameystegmaier 7 лет назад +6

      The Capacity rules are explained right at the end of Game 1, but because you carry everything over from Game 1 to Game 2, capacity isn't a factor until the end of Game 2 (it's written on the card--you won't have to remember this). Your capacity as shown on the charter chest is that after Game 2, you can keep $1, 1 resource, 1 advancement card, and 1 thing that isn't explained yet.

    THANK YOU for the crate description! I was trying to figure this out and looked at the chart which starts with "A, B, C..." which made no sense. Then I thought the Crate number was the number of crates you had which made the chart make no sense either and there was so little description of what to do in the game.
    Then there are the confusing rules in the Chronicle. My first thought was that I was doing something horribly wrong since the first 3 rules were blank awaiting, I assume, some stickers. Setup is rule #4! This made no sense.
    The Automa rules are cryptic too. I am playing this solo and they the rules say, if you're playing solo, use the Automa rules...but not for game 1??? So what do I do? No help there.
    Then there are no "1P" spots on the Reputation or Progress tracks. So what to do there for a 1 player game which it SAYS it supports, is beyond me. The rules don't say. Neither do the FAQ's.
    I really am looking forward to playing this but it seems they either don't have a capacity to clearly explain things or they haven't play tested enough.

      Mike: Rodney doesn't offer reviews, and I think he's only played 1 game so far for the purpose of filming this How to Play video. The 9 reviewers we sent copies to will post their reviews on October 18 (even if Rodney did have opinions, the embargo means he wouldn't be able to share them until October 18. We did this so the reviewers didn't feel the need to rush through the campaign to be the first one to talk about it--they're all on the same schedule).
