Big fan of this shift / direction! Great video, as someone who just visited Japan and replayed Pokémon Gold in my downtime over 2 months in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo, I got this strange nostalgic feeling for a place I had never been before.
@@saffroncitytv It was my first true, mainline Pokemon region. That said, I began my journey as a Ranger in Fiore. Once you finish the main series, you should think about dipping into some of the spinoff regions!
Psychic powers and gold are linked in Japanese culture, so Sabrina has her place in her city, also makes sense with her badge. Otherwise I'm not mad at the changes for Gym Leaders & Elite 4. Cool video !
It should be noted (and it was clarified in Pokemon Masters) that Lance isn't a Dragon Type specialist but a Dragon specialist... Like how Bird Keepers choose bird Pokemon.... It's based on the creature, not the type... So he's a concept specialist, not a type specialist.... Also, music is universal. So ANY music class can fit anywhere.... You can find people who love rock in most nations....
I mean, we all know that's only because there was only one dragon line in Gen 1. Anytime he's appeared in later gens without being held back by remake specifications his teams are always 80% dragon type.
I loved Lance’s team as a kid and love it even more now. The type diversity on his team genuinely made it a hard battle, even arguably more hard than Blue. Especially the hyper beam spam, that was brutal
Just leaving a comment to say I wasn't expecting this video to be as entertaining as it was. I first put it on to play in the background while I was doing other stuff, but not long in I found myself genuinely engaged, and had to pay full attention to it. I must've replayed Pokemon Blue at least 10 times when I was a kid, but I've never thought about the region itself in this way before, so thanks for enlightening me. I stopped playing Pokemon games after Black 2 and White 2, so I'm not too familiar with the regions that come after, but I am looking forward to your take on the regions I do know quite well.
You mentioned 1,000 subscribers and then I looked down and was shocked to see that this video had less than 10k views, I was totally expecting to be watching a video with at least 200k views. Hopefully your channel gets bigger, you're clearly made for this stuff! Amazing review, very thorough! I agree with a lot of this and can't wait to see more if you end up continuing this!! (Minor grammatical nitpick at 5:51 "Kanto gets the same treatment as all of its predecessors" I think you meant successors, since predecessors refers to the ones that came before and Kanto was the first! Tripped me up for a moment haha)
Well thank you for the compliment on the quality and for the kind words! Yeah, I made a few mistakes with this video, but I hope to improve from this point on. Sorry for any confusion! 😅
Aww thank you so much! That's so nice of you! My channel has recently gone through a bit of a change lately, so most of my older content isn't region-based, but I still hope you enjoy it nonetheless 😊 happy to have ya around!
25:08 funny enough as a kid I would always surf south of pallet Town and only go to the caves for Articuno. I think if you enter from the cinnabar Island side it's much quicker to find Articuno also
@@saffroncitytv I think I did it because I was a dumb kid and didn't realize the intention, maybe I just happened to be in Pallette when I figured it out, I'm not sure! But I've always thought of islands as "Aritcuno's den", until they kind of did that idea in Kalos
A Score of 3 actually fits Kanto very well. Kanto is pretty average compared to other Regions. It's neither very good nor very bad. You can see, that it was the first to be created even with all the remakes. This series is very interesting! Looking forward to see the next part of it!
Honestly, I was expecting people to disagree with my assessment of Kanto. On the one hand, I was anticipating some people saying that Kanto is the first region, and therefore the best, and nostalgia should be the reason it gets a 5/5 score. And on the other hand, I was expecting people to be like, "Kanto sucks compared to newer regions like Kalos and Alola because it's so simple and basic". But what ended up happening is that people seem to agree with the score. I did try to be as objective as possible and treat Kanto fairly, and the score it got was the score I honestly thought it deserved. Not amazing, but not terrible by any means. Nostalgia did give it a few points, but the fact that it still feels a little dated balanced it out. Idk, I hope I was being fair, as that was always my intention, but I'm glad you appreciate the way I scored this region. Thank you for the support. I can't wait to do Johto. 😊
As someone named Surge whose favorite color is vermillion, I think it suits the lieutenant well! It's a bold, aggressive red orange. If we're exaggerating to the city's roof color, it matches Raichu! This isn't an electric themed twink who runs a lot. Surge is more of a Thor, bold electric and intense.
Those are all great points! And besides, Vermillion City is a pretty cool place, if for no other reason, I could see why Lt. Surge would choose to live there just based on aesthetics alone. 😊
Thank you for your hard work on this video! Nice job, I like the longform video format and you make good points and observations about the Kanto region. I wonder if you can eventually take it even further into specialized videos, like speculation on how the different regions interact with each other based on what's revealed in the games. Or like fun ides like "What would renting a place in Kanto be like: From the Saffron City Gym Leader". Not like some dry economic role play study haha but like I think your new direction has a lot of potential in really being the go-to channel for Poke region lore consolidation combined with your own insights. Thumbs up as always, looking forward to your next videos! Keep it up!
Those are some really great ideas!! I should definitely do like a "what would it be like to live here" kind of video. Or how the regions are connected or interact. I'm totally stealing it. 🤣 Anyway, thanks for all the kind words and encouragement. I put a lot of effort into this video, and I'm glad that it's paying off 😊
Saffron!! I just finished up this vid , i watched it in small doses while i was at work , i loved every bit of it ! You gotta do more of these region breakdowns!!
This video blew me away, I loved how you touched every single part of the region, a really great all around analysis. I've never been a biggest fan of Kanto but never could pin down the reasons until this video, I never realized just how much of Kanto was just grasslands and caves. I feel like that becomes an even more apparent problem thanks to the limited amount of Pokemon that appear in the overworld grass. More than any region Kanto would benefit the most from a complete reimagining to give it a bit more flair. I loved your complaints about how various "Kanto" Pokemon can't be found in the wild but rather from obscure trades or game corner prizes. Pokemon is all about exploring and finding new Pokemon, I don't get why they like to make getting rare Pokemon so boring. Also the idea for Lt.Surge to be in big city due to electricity powering it is GENIUS. Loved this style of content, I hope this video blows up since it's a great watch for any fans of the series!
Wow, thanks for such a kind comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and it helped provide some perspective! Honestly, I had a totally different outlook on Kanto before I made this video, and now I feel like I view differently, but not in a bad way. 😊
Sabrina as the psychic type gym leader in Saffron city makes perfect sense when you look at it in context of when it first released and not from a modern lens. Think back to all the psychic types of Gen 1 found in Kanto and you’ll realize the majority of them have a yellow color scheme. The abra line and drowzee line are all yellow, exeggutor’s heads are yellow, etc. There are some exceptions sure, like jinx and my main man mewtwo, but at the time of creation yellow was the dominant psychic color. Also I will not accept this Lance slander. Lance isn’t and has never been a type specialist. As he himself says, “not all dragons are the dragon type!” He’s a master of *dragons,* not the dragon *type* and this is reflected in nearly all of his appearances across every corner of the franchise. Congrats on making a really good video! It absolutely deserves to have blown up the way it did. When you mentioned still needing 300 subs to get monetized I had to do a double take. XD Great job!
Great Kanto video Sabrina. I am in full agreement with you region analysis. This was awesome. Can’t wait for the next one! Can tell you put a lot of hard work into this banger!

Great review, the algorithm did its work suggesting I watch it. The quality and personality is a subscription for me. What is the route 11 joke about btw?
Such a great analyses. Honestly can't wait for Unova. I think, Unova does a lot of things you mentioned perfectly well. One thing I would add when it comes to judge Routes, is their navigation, especially when comparing new with old games of the series.
I really think Kanto had set the baseline for regions going forward. Think with the limitation being expanded with every entry, Kanto has potential for more locations, but a lot of locations are definitely too iconic to change up
Thank you so much! I'm working on Johto now. I gotta play through Crystal and HeartGold first, so it may be a little bit, but I intend for that one to be an improvement compared to this one. Just gotta be thorough! 😊 Thanks for the support!
Regions are one of the most crucial aspect of Pokémon games for me. I really love this concept, and the quality of the video is top notch ! You deserve way more views and subs
Thank you very much for the kind words! 😊 I also really love the region, and hopefully I'll get picked up by the RUclips algorithm, so other people can enjoy the reviews as well 😊
This review series is literally for me. I agree, I think the Region is so very important to the mainline Pokémon games. Maybe it's even the most crucial aspect for me, and the reason why the newer regions haven't captured the same magic for me
Well I hope you continue to enjoy the series! I'm working on Johto now, and it's so hefty. They really put a lot of love into the regions, and it's pretty evident in the earlier titles. I have my own opinions about the later titles though. Some of the newer regions, I personally, have some issues with, but we'll see how they fare in an objective setting. 😊
Take your time! Johto is a very special Region, though I'm sure it won't do well in Pokemon diversity haha. I really liked the video, just finished watching! I'd like to make a comment about that some Pokemon can only be found in one specific location or one specific in-game trade/gift, I think having those are very important to the Pokemon diversity! Of course, the diversity found in the Routes and Caves also should be good which Kanto isn't quite that haha
I'm currently working on my own Pokémon Fan game and videos like this rly help out on things I need to consider befor I do a route, town or city! So thx :D
Oh that's very cool! I tried my hand at my own Pokemon fan game with RPGMaker a while back, but got totally overwhelmed in the process. It takes a TON of hard work, effort, love, attention to detail, and patience to create a fan game, and I think it takes a very certain type of person that can pull it off. I hope you do! And I hope you never get discouraged like I did. 😅
@@saffroncitytv I agree. It's hard especially when you do it all alone but it's still very fun! Sometimes I get frustrated when I can't come up with a route design or some lore for my towns but videos like this rly help me out! Videos like this often give me the motiavtion to create a route/town/city with some bonus content etc. Maybe you should pick it up again! I bet you could create something cool! Also if u don't want to go back to it, maybe use RPG Maker to design some towns or routes and present them in your videos. Could be a fun idea to see how you would design a route or town/city, with the lore you gave it and the encounters you can find. Have a nice day :P

As for why Koga/Janine and the poison type gym is in Fuschia City, a city with a safari zone that doesn't seem to have any connection to poisons, I believe there is a dialgue somewhere in the series that Fuschia is the ancestral home of ninjas/shinobi. So while in modern day it may not seem like a place for poison types, it was the home for ninjas/assassins who probably used a lot of poison types.
5:45 I think the word you were looking for was “successors” not “predecessors”. 17:50 The Safari Zone was closed in Gen II rather than converted into something else.

Good luck!
Well thank you so much! 😊 Hopefully one day I can grow my channel to a size of that magnitude 😊 thank you for the kind words and support!
@@saffroncitytv aye. I seem to be stumbling into new faces in a few areas on YT of late. When I hear things I like, I give a sub. Got another fellow in the scary story narration community I’m rooting for too.
Oh I love stuff like that! Well cool! Glad to have you subbed 😊
@@saffroncitytv hell yeah. I’m looking forward to your Johto review, gen2 is my first and favorite.
Also, here’s the dude I mentioned. youtube.com/@ScaryStoriesWithV?si=e1wSJtmW-R24Dmph
Absolutely loved this video. Amazing work put into it. Best regional analysis of Kanto I've ever seen. I'm looking forward to this series!
Why thank you! 😊 I'm really excited for the next Region Review as well. I just love Johto ♥️
The regions and worldbuilding are my favorite part of Pokémon. Can’t wait to watch this series.
Wow sabrina, this was absolutely incredible and you have out done yourself. You should really be proud of how this turned out because I can see myself come back to this again and again.
I really cannot wait to not only see the next video, but how far you are going to grow on this platform. Keep up the incredible work Sabrina, and thank you for making my week with this video 😄 Things have beem rough lately and your content always brings a smile
Well thank you so much for the genuine encouragement and kind words. I know what you mean - this week has been rough for me as well, and it's comments like yours that keep me motivated. 😊 Thanks so much, it goes a long way.
One thing I liked about Kanto is that it felt a lot more down to earth and believable. Much more immersive of a setting
Big fan of this shift / direction! Great video, as someone who just visited Japan and replayed Pokémon Gold in my downtime over 2 months in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo, I got this strange nostalgic feeling for a place I had never been before.
That's an awesome experience! Thank you for the kind words, I hope you enjoyed your time in Japan! 😊
Yesss! I love long form content like this so seeing you do this kinda thing is rly exciting to me
Oh good! I really hope you like it. There's more on the way 😉
Over an hour long? Oh yeah, this is gonna be good! Thank god I have snacks ready!
Haha I need a snack myself after this one 🤣
I am looking forward to your review of Sinnoh's region!
Sinnoh is gonna be a really fun region to review. 😊
That's something that I've very recently learned 😊. Ya learn something new every day! 😊
Region reviews for the win. Can't wait for Jhoto
I know, me too! I really enjoyed doing the Kanto review, and I'm super excited for Johto!
Found this channel as a youtube recommendation, and holy that content is great. Got yourself a follower, miss Saffron Gym Leader!
Haha why thank you! Very happy to have ya! 😊
Great video! Super happy the algorithm sent me this way. lol. Just subbed. Can’t wait for the next region review.

Really cool series concept. Looking forward to seeing the other regions.
Well thank you! Johto will be here hopefully sooner than later. 😊
I can't wait for the other regions!!! You ma'am have earned my subscription and I'm a fan now!! Tremendous review and I enjoyed every minute of it
Well thank you very much! I really appreciate that! 😊 Very happy to have you as a subscriber. The Johto video is on its way, slowly but surely 😊
Really good video!!! Crazy you're not monetised! The video is like it's from a big name RUclipsr, well done!!!
Why thank you! I worked hard on it, for sure, and I'm glad you noticed the effort. 😊
@saffroncitytv You're welcome! 😊 I've subbed to you and starting watching all your other vids too, thank you so much for your reply! 😊
Well I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope you enjoy Johto and the other regions as well. 😊 I appreciate the kind words!
I quite enjoyed this! Time to binge watch all your content while I baske in the nostalgia. Liked and subbed!
Aww thank you so much! That's so nice of you! My channel has recently gone through a bit of a change lately, so most of my older content isn't region-based, but I still hope you enjoy it nonetheless 😊 happy to have ya around!
this was a nice video, great work :)
Why thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words 😊
25:08 funny enough as a kid I would always surf south of pallet Town and only go to the caves for Articuno. I think if you enter from the cinnabar Island side it's much quicker to find Articuno also
I definitely feel that. Going from Fuchsia to Cinnabar always felt like a long trek. I think getting there from Pallet makes more sense.
@@saffroncitytv I think I did it because I was a dumb kid and didn't realize the intention, maybe I just happened to be in Pallette when I figured it out, I'm not sure! But I've always thought of islands as "Aritcuno's den", until they kind of did that idea in Kalos
Very thorough, I enjoyed it, sub well earned
Thank you so much! 😊 Super happy to have you in the club!
Just found this channel. Insanely in depth video, looking ahead to the rest of the series Sabrina - channel name is creative as shit!
Well thank you so much! 😊 Happy to have you as a subscriber and thank you for the kind words 😊
You're a great editor and you did a really good job with the pacing here. Can't wait to see more region reviews!
Well thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. 😊 I put a lot of effort into the editing, and I'm glad it paid off. 😊
Missed you for a while but see you’ve been working on this Kanto video banger! This is gonna be good!!!!!!!!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it!
@@saffroncitytvAs a soldier from another country, it makes perfect sense he would land in the port town of the region.
“Electric themed twink”
Common trope!@@Slender_Man_186
Thank you for your hard work on this video!
I put a lot of effort into this video, and I'm glad that it's paying off 😊
Wonderful region analysis! I've never been super interested in Kanto but this makes me want to go back and take a second look.
You absolutely should revisit Kanto. It's a great region! Maybe not perfect, but certainly enjoyable. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. 😊
Saffron!! I just finished up this vid , i watched it in small doses while i was at work , i loved every bit of it ! You gotta do more of these region breakdowns!!
Well thank you for the very kind words. 😊 I'm tackling Johto right now, and I have a feeling it'll be even better. 😊
Excellent work!
Thank ya!
Well done video; a healthy mix of appreciation and criticism, and nicely edited. You should definitely have more subs!
Well thank you. I tried to be as fair as possible, and I'm glad that was evident. Thank you so much for the support. 😊
Nice job blowing up on this vid, I will keep watching and subscribe if you really do all the regions and similar videos, love it
Well thank ya! Johto will be coming out soon!
I love the concept ! You got my subscription

Thank you so much! 😊 I really appreciate that.
Great Video! Love long form reviews like this, and your rating seems fair and reasonable! Don’t rush yourself but I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.
Well thank you so much. 😊 I appreciate the kindness! When you said, "don't rush yourself", honestly, comments like that really make me feel affirmed in my processes. I used to rush myself a lot, and what resulted was me putting out videos that I wasn't particularly proud of. I just very recently have decided to slow down the pace for my own sake, and it's really helped me a lot. So, thank you again for the kindness. 😊 I'm really excited for the Johto review!
I'm loving the quality of this video and I can't wait for the rest of the regions.
Aww thanks! 😊 I'm working on Johto now, and really excited for it!

Such a great analyses. Honestly can't wait for Unova. I think, Unova does a lot of things you mentioned perfectly well.
One thing I would add when it comes to judge Routes, is their navigation, especially when comparing new with old games of the series.

Agreed on the point on caves. Although they sure hit different back on the gameboy!
Haha I used to absolutely HATE rock tunnel. I don't dislike it as much anymore, but when I was a kid, I would rush like hell to get outta there. 🤣
@saffroncitytv it was definitely an ordeal. The unsettling music (so good!) didn't help one bit either
I can tell this is gonna be good
Glad I found your channel, nice vid!
I really think Kanto had set the baseline for regions going forward. Think with the limitation being expanded with every entry, Kanto has potential for more locations, but a lot of locations are definitely too iconic to change up
I definitely agree 😊 Kanto made for a great foundation for Pokemon games. 😊
I think this video really helped me realize what bothers me about Kanto. Great video and excited for Johto!

I was thinking about maybe showing my viewers some of the project I had worked on a few years back just for fun. Who knows? Maybe I will get back into it. I really hope your game goes well, and I'm sure the finished product will be awesome. 😊
What a cool channel name. About a decade ago when RUclips was still in its infancy I wanted to start a larping RUclips channel where I played a rocket grunt and I would sort of tell a story through my vlogs. I never got around to doing that idea but I like that you took a similar concept and did your own thing with it. ❤
Well thank you for the kind words! Maybe someday you'll be able to make your ideas a reality. I could see people being interested in that kind of content! 😊
This is a great video!!
Why thank you very much! I appreciate that 😊
Oh I'm already loving this series, and I can't wait for you to do more with the idea, and hopefully other regions too if it's fun. Instant follow! ^w^
Oh good! I'm glad you like it! I'm excited to do Johto next!
@@saffroncitytv Looking forward to it! ^w^
Thanks for catching those. Yeah 😅 I make mistakes sometimes, but I plan to get better.
@@saffroncitytv You’re already better than me. Those who can’t, criticize, and all that.

Well thank you. Very happy to have ya! 😊 It's fair to criticize when I get things wrong. You were respectful about it, and that's all I can ask for.
