Minnesota Timberwolves was big winners in the NBA draft Dillingham Terrance Shannon jr with Ant man.
Spurs did wolves an unreal solid. This was a trade straight out of a video game with your friends. Wolves possibly just got a generational point guard
This trade by the Timberwolves redeems Connelly.... He completely embarrassed the Spurs organization
And the Spurs got what they wanted.
An "unreal solid" and an "unreal stupid"
@@RJLKMRD You cannot play Castle AND Dillingham together. And a pick in 2030 and 2031 are a lot better than a pick in 2025 when the wolves are still good. The Spurs will have more opportunities to get really good players.
@@RJLKMRD You clowns traded 2 first rounders for a 6'1 165lb PG 🤣🤣🤣
You guys are fried if you run into Doncic again, Luka is 6'7 230lbs; he's gonna bully Dillingham 🤣
7 years is a long time who knows what either team looks like in 2031
Spurs won't keep the pick until 2031.
They'll trade it for a player that will slot next to Wemby & Castle.
I wouldn’t bet on the pick being higher than 8 though.
@@gussbus9320 Sure, but the 8th pick in the supposed weakest draft of the last 30 years is going to be less valuable than a lower pick in other drafts.
Maybe Dillingham ends up being the outlier in this draft, regardless of how bad the draft is there’s always a few guys that over perform expectations
Both the pick and the swap are more valuable than an 8th pick in a historically bad draft.
@@jhank0ceanyou mean a player like, say, Rob Dillingham?
I think an important piece of the Spurs reasoning was wanting to preserve their ~$25 million in cap space while maintaining the draft asset rather than drafting a player they didn't want and using up $8 million in space
This is so true, I think KOC is being very very shortsighted in his analysis. The spurs basically traded Jakob Poeltl for a swap and unprotected pick PLUS a ton of cap flexibility. There’s no point in drafting someone and using cap space just to draft someone you aren’t sold on.
@@joshdominguez853 Exactly, sometimes punting is the smart move. Now the question is what are they going to do with that space?
That’s fine but man, to give up only a first round pick seven years from now and a pick swap is a steal for the Wolves.
@@joshdominguez853yeah but the Spurs got fleeced on what they got in return.
Terrance Shannon Jr, this was a smart move adding more fire power
I agree who gives a shit about 2030. Wolves fan and just not being a terrible team for once in my life is fun now. If 2030 we are bad again at least the next few years are interesting
As a Wolves fan this was a win win trade. Gives the Spurs staggered draft capital and the Wolves a good young piece that is the cheapest alternative to assisting a maxed out cap.
@@jowner1 Yes, people keep viewing trades and negotiations as a VS battle.
Fleecing another team is good for the short-team, but helping each other in win-win situations like the Spurs have done many times, facilitating deals being a third wheel is how you get trust from other franchises to keep working together long-term.
The Spurs don't need to fleece anybody anyway, they won the jackpot already. No matter how many win-win moves they make, they'll likely have the last laugh in the end when it's all said and done.
Especially with that new CBA in place that will make superteams way less viable for long contention windows.
The Spurs don't want a shot at a 6th ring.
They want a shot at all of them for a decade.
A Dynasty, with a capital D.
And having many swaps and FRPs when Wemby is in his prime will keep adding young talent for cheap cap space.
OKC and Spurs are doing it right, other franchises should pay attention.
The picks could also be flipped for a more veteran player who could help them contend sooner than Dillingham.
I’m not so sure this is about getting picks down the line but assets to win now/sooner
Totally agree, they can use this pick in a package to get a play now player when the time is right.
They have zero cap space, they can’t offer money for a good free agent and they don’t have the capital to make a trade for an established player. This was the wolves only avenue to fill a pg role
I think Kevin forgets how bad this draft is lol like the only player I can actually see starting the season as a starter is sarr, so like if your not 100% all in on this pick why take it when you can get more assets back and try again later😊
Castle is absolutely going to start
@@coachtimmeh6826 Brick thrower. Shorter Ben Simmons.
Is that Mike Miller or Jason Williams?
Awooooo
Hell yeeeeee
Rob lob to Wemby would've been so easy. Love the pick up by the Wolves
“This draft is weak”
“I am shocked the Spurs wouldn’t want to make a pick this year instead of a future pick”
This was NOT a BAD DRAFT!!! Every time they say this they are dead wrong but it’s not bad at all. The only REASON these folks called this a bad draft was DUE to there was NO clear cut 1st overall pick like Victor last year for example. That was the only damn reason but I think Zach is good for that pick. There were a bunch of great players this draft. Like come on
Analysts have been saying how weak this draft class is. Saying Sarr is the best player in this class but is equivalent to only a top 10 pick in either last year or next year draft. And now people are clowning on Spurs for trading a low value draft picks for two 1st round picks.
Its.not 2 picks. It's 1 pick and the right to changed positions on other pick.
They said the same thing about the 2020 draft class too outside of Lamelo Ball and ANT. Whats your point? Like over 5 players from that draft were in the playoffs this years.
Slow it down, folks. We've seen the likes of Dillingham before. Wait and see how this pans out. That future 1st the Spurs got may be more valuable.
That cat in Houston can't touch this...
I am sorry but getting two draft picks from a bad draft is not a bad choice. The value of the wolves near term picks (which they already traded) is very low cause they are a good team. Getting far away picks is more valuable. Also the Spurs have brought in 5 rookies in the last 3 years, all of which are like 19 year old as rookies. They don't need a short PG with no defense. Spurs did a smart move. Not for the media's obsession for Wemby getting another "Star" but for the development of a title team when Victor reaches his prime in 3-4 years
So you drafted a point guard who can't shoot instead?
@@basedoz5745 Can't shoot is fixable, Spurs do it all the time. Being tiny you can't solve, not having focus on defense you can't solve. Some guys are ballers, some are professional basketball players. Castle is the second, I think you know what dilly is. Street ball aint working when you regularly go up against guys a foot taller than you
@@blablablaa14 lol Castle shot less than 30% from everywhere but right at the rim. Meanwhile you are saying the guy who is the same size as Trae Young, who shot an astounding 44% from 3 as a freshman isn’t a professional?… pure cope
Watch the spurs use that pick in a couple years to get wemby his missing piece
Which pick, 2030 or 2031??
Either.
@@RJLKMRDto be clear, 2030 is a swap, not an outright trade. Getting value back on that assumes the Spurs will already be better than the Wolves.
Yeah in his like 7th or 8th season adding that rookie will be ALL they need right?
Kinda like what wolves are doing now
Such a high IQ move from the Spurs. Rob will either not pan out or Spurs will create a huge mismatch in future playoff series against Wolves where Rob will be food on defense for the super versatile team filled with length that Spurs are building. Plus they are getting future assets.
Ok sure 🙄. No assumptions being made at all here, lol.
wtf LOL bro slow down
The Wolves had by far the best defense in the league last season. They can cover any defensive weakness Dillingham has. Meanwhile it sounds like Castle can't even make 2 3s in a row in practice unguarded.
This is pure cope. There is good chance that Rob turns out to be so good on offense that it doesn’t matter what he does on D flanked by 4 above average defenders.
Reminds me too much of when the Jazz traded a bunch of 7th graders to get Trey Burke and it was a massive L
"This is one of the weakest drafts in decades if not the weakest"
"HoW dArE tHe SpUrs tRaDe ThE 8th pIcK"
I mean they traded the best player in the draft for an 11 and 12 year old.
@@BrockNelson the 11-12 year old comment is a cute thing to say, but in the near future one of the best ways to accrue contributing talent under these new CBA aprons will be through rookie contracts. Other franchises know this too. Either the Spurs have a great trade chip while Vic is in his prime, or they draft cheap talent to go along side him while he's making the max. The Spurs have always let things bake. Also its a matter of opinion but Castle has the highest floor of any pick. Boston had no one on the court who was under 6' 4" and they just dominated the playoffs. Dillingham is nice but he won't be it come playoff time.
The genius move will be remembered from the Spurs when they make a win-now trade using the picks a few years from now.
Nobody wants those picks
@@mavssami41 1st round picks are always valuable. Nobody knows where the Wolves will be in 3 years, let alone 7. The pick has good value either way but could potentially carry immense value. Think long term.
Or it will be remembered as a terrible trade when dillingham is a starter for 14 years. Only time will tell.
@@spolThe question is whether Castle is better than Dillingham. Castle doesn't want to share the starting PG spot with Dillingham.
@@KK-pm7ud Castle is already more valuable than Dillingham, he's a versatile guard that plays great defense.
having versatile guards is one of the main reasons the Celtics dominated the Mavs.
It was very Timberwolves of Minnesota to mortgage their future for a speculative pick in a historically bad draft.
💯 In a nutshell, they stay nutty
I see it as they’ve built this team as win now and they got exposed in the playoffs for not having shot creation (plus they’ll have trouble finding quality players in free agency to fill out their rotation). I don’t mind it, if they want to win now and stay under second apron of the cap this makes sense
Media heads said the Anthony Edwards draft was a bad draft as well.
There are lots of quality players in this draft. There just isn't your typical top 3-4 elite guys.
The Wolves championship window is now. They have 1 more year of KAT. The franchise has been horrible for 20 years. Have to strike now.
Tim Connelly knows what he's doing.
If the Wolves don't get to the finals this upcoming year, then towns will be traded for a bunch of picks
lol the wolves will never go anywhere with towns as 2nd best player. Not too mention gobert sucks
Better to be thought a fool than opening your mouth and remove all doubt. Ooops, to late.
They've got Juan Nuñez > Nikola Topic, Manu scouted him. So the trade with Wolves set Spurs for better lottery talent with 2031 future 1st and 2030 pick swap top 1 protected. Note: Wolves called the 8th pick, not the Spurs.
