I followed the whole process with my Canon EOS 60D and this is the result. I hope you'll gain some information from this episode.
Thanks for watching, rating, subscribing
Greetz,
Roman
Don't understand why there's so much negativity in the comments. The dude's doing us a favour and we don't get many great videos showing us the process in a shop. Thank you Roman.
Well, here in Slovenia most cars are equipped in silver-grey metallic color, and it is a standard. But now new options are arising and i'm excited about this too. Thanks and have a nice winter.
This is life mate. Some people are never happy ... and somehow part of them landed here. Thanks for great words, man!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video for us, very helpful.
nice goggles and respirator mask.
I was waiting to see them and never did 😂💀
Nothing better than a rim job.
Wow turned out great, white wheels really makes the car look awesome!
Safe approach of powder coating to implement. Excited to do it. Keep showing such clips.
he should use respirator when applying powder..
Sweet mullet dude.
All business up front...party in the back...
In my opinion, the primer layer is always there to ensure a good adhesion between the surface and the color layer. So, without a primer it will work, but it won't stay as long as it is supposed to. If you have a chance, use a proper for your surface primer.
Why are all these people in the comments crying about him not wearing a mask. This is not a safety video. He's explaining the proper process on how to powder coat not the safety measures that should be taken. This is a great video because most of the people showing you how to powder coat on youtube are doing it all wrong. They are not getting good adhesion due to the use of chemical cleaning. Blasting and preheating is an absolute must for proper adhesion. Chemical cleaning leaves crap on the surface of the metal. Blasting and preheating completely clean the surface. Blasting cleans the things you see while preheating cleans the things you don't by burning it off.
+Alvarez Metal Works Then don't watch the video if you already know every F___ ing thing
+Alvarez Metal Works Because such things are standard nowadays. Not doing is a sign of carelessness and stupidity.
+Alvarez Metal Works Well yeah, but one thing is about health, the other one about pride. That's a difference to be considered.
I guess that would all depend on what was said... Either way you can justify it however you want but it's a real dick move to start giving them shit after they were cool enough to give us free information that we were hoping to find.
+Alvarez Metal Works What I could agree on is that it would be their supervisor's or employer's task to make them wear protective gear. Not the RUclips crowd's job.A smart critic would give a positive feedback on their skill and product and then add the recommendation of wearing a mask.I don't know why the internet is so full of hate. If that's the real face of society... Good night fellas.
perfect explanation Roman,,,,very informative and useful,,,,by the way your english also is great,,,good luck from Iran
Very nice video! I've been powdercoating some small parts at home and I've been wondering how the professionals do it on a larger scale. I wish I had some of their equipment for cleaning and curing!
You did a really great job on the video editing as well. Thanks!
thanx. thats can be interested with a black or even white / light yellow car. usually grey would not give that much of an attractive contrast. But you're right it has it's own and very defined style. Happily, we can do what we want (to some extend ;-)) with our cars ...
I'm quite happy with my Seat and Brembos are there for a good reason. When I look back, I often see BMWs trying to figure out what is going on. This is really funny and makes me feel great. I'm thinking about a back wheel driven car, so BMW can join my garage soon. Thanks for suggestion.
Because cost can be different depending on country etc. The price for these four wheels was 120 euro more then one year ago.
Great video, to the point without all the extra talking and thinking about what to say! Some ppl that make these videos like to talk too much, lol! I have a blue car too, I was thinking blue rims would look good to match the car.
It's advised, I do this and even though it isnt very volatile, it still sucks to get the powder in your eyes and doesnt taste very good either.
Thanks for getting back to me! What's a proper? I'm not a painter or powder coater myself.
Its an indirect heating oven. Somewhere at the top module there is a burner. Then fans blow the hot air inside a huge room. There is quite some gradient. Temperature at the vicinity of the rim surface is 180-200C degrees (not 1500 as might look misleading from this video). I just verified it with CoatingPlus. I will check/adapt subtitles. And it looks like you didn't get my link with sauna ;-(
Thanks for the video upload. I always wondered what the process was. Your rims look great.
The tech spraying the rims should wear a mask to prevent inhaling the powder.
Disagree... Car looks good with the painted rims! I knew how this works, but the video was very well done!
he is doing well, just talked to him a couple of weeks ago ;-) Also I told him about all the comments from here, now he is doing it differently.
Think about sauna. People do not start to sweat immediately. A rim is a massive body which needs time to be heated up to its melting point. One hour is not enough.
Good Explanation and thumbs up to the guys for letting us understand the process. Thank You :)
Great choice with white rims.
Temperature at the surface is about 200C. I made a mistake and have to review it right now.
excellent job, nicely describe #powder coating process in proper way. Keep sharing such videos.
Such a great video thanks love the layout in the shop and transport racks
Thanks! The white wheels are already under my car. The green color is cool and I'm thinking to give my winter wheels (17 inch 5 spark Enzo H) the same color. It might look beter then just silver grey ;-)
thanks! they will, if I continue to wash them regularly ;-) (the grey one would not ask for that very often -- another advantage).
who the fuck done the brick work on that wall?
I had to take a 2nd look lol that some bad brick work
+YZFR1mart lol, that is some inconsistent work.
You are working with a wheel, not just a rim. The wheel is comprised of the disk (the centre part where the bolt holes are, which is welded to the rim, to which the tire is mounted.
amblt1 Thanks for this detail! In my language disk and rim meaning sort of the same ...I would usually say disk, meaning the wheel without a tire ;-). I see the clear difference now. Thanks again.
Size does not matter ;-) looks like everything is ok which can heat material to an appropriated timeperature. Large oven size = large throughput.
may be you didn't realize, but it wasn't me spaying the powder. still thnaks a lot for words of care ;-)
that is a pretty normal size oven for powdercoating .....actually it is quite expensive to run as far as electric bill goes , i have a friend in the buisness
you're welcome! glad you could gain some info here ;-)
Thanks for the vid, I always wanted to see the process for this stuff.
actually Aluminum transfers heat very rapidly, please dont say anything if you have no idea what you are saying,! aluminum melts at 660deg. Cel 1500 cel is the same as 2732 F. aluminum gets malleable at 700-800 deg. F , thats 2000 deg. lower than stated. and it would only take about 7.43 minutes for an average 1" thick rim to reach a given temperature. I am sure this was merely a mistake in english translation.
wow, so he isnt wearing a mask while shooting powder? isn't that dangerous to inhale ?
Is it dangerous? Depends how long he is about to work there - lung cancer is rather inevitable. Aluminum is worse though :-)
TheBalcerman Oh wow, I mean a mask would help in a percentage.
Sure. Mask with proper respiratory system can withstand anything. I mean any kind of shit you can inhale, even the smallest particles.
dinoreah 2 hate much?
me as a powdercoater myself i can say, that it isnt that dangerous as aerosol painting, infact its rather most safest type of "paint" or should i say "coat". powder is economic friendly and doesnt harm you, unless you are trying to eat it ofc
Exactly the Point Balcerman. Can you imagine soldiers going into an NBC environment with a respirator canister that allows the smallest of particles to pass through.
This is what you get in countries where Health and Safety goes out of the window. Bad example to be shown on RUclips You Tube!
Good idea is to Clear Powder Coat them, shine is much better and cleaning is much easier.
I would totally be wearing a respirator when spraying that stuff
@1:49 the rims are travelling direct into an oven ;-) I have no details about a type of powder, sorry ;-(
I can imagine that this can still be possible while protection coanting is wasn't brought on. So, color layer on top of a color layer. The adhesion can be still not optimal and thus your coating is not as stable as it was with one color layer. If you finished and still not happy, the easiest way to start from scratch again. I hope, someone would correct me if I'm mistaking.
Isn't the powder is toxic? even if not, should not be the man wear a mask?
I've asked the same question and was told, that that type of powder is not really harmful and could be handles w/o a mask. Still, I wouldn't do it w/o a mask.
Roman Shantyr Me neither... Even if it isn't harmful, he could still inhale the powder and the powder can build up in the lungs....
+Tom L That's true, should wear a proper ventilation mask in order to prevent powder to inhale. The powder inhalation will have serious impact on respiratory system and cause cancer as well. Company should educate their employees in safety standards.
Thats what I thought too, but the guy told me it doesn't hurt at all. I am. hoever, very convinced that I would wear the protection because it's about my health ;-)
Yeah and yours look nice on yo car, but i just prefer them on grey... But it was a very nice job and hope they'll last many years!
Thanks! He is still doing well, but is probably more careful now ...
getting good knowledge even I own powder coating
The mullet is REAL 😂😂
the white colour is cool
powder is non toxic and most are vented upward
Thanks, great to know that the info I've got is useful.
It looks like you don't understand many things. The subtitles are there. Just open your eyes! For the future - think and chose words before writing a comment.
Interesting track to transport the rims between stations, seems like an efficient shop. Roman, do you have more footage of the shop floor or layout?
Richard, I was concentrated on the process and not on setup. I have more footage, but it is not very much different from what you see in this episode. I don't have floor layout.
Roman Shantyr Ok thanks for the video anyway. I just interviewed at a local powder coating shop, that's why I asked. The shop you were at has more space and a smoother process in place. I would rather work over there. haha
Thanks for sharing the process.
I have no idea how did you come to this conclusion, but this is not in Russia. It was in The Netherlands.
dank je! ik ben erg blij mee ;-)
Thanks and YES he should be wearing a mask.
Nice video, just a quick question
is it need to be paint with primer powder ?
is it need clear coat (laquer) powder to be finished ? if yes on which colours ???
sorry for the question but iam beginer and i want to start do powder coating in home for me
Thanks
I prefer the cupra rims on a gun grey color... 5 Stars!
You need a powder coating booth which is made by professional manufacturer.
Lets say you want the face of the wheel a different color than the interior of the wheel, can you wipe off the powder without the rest falling off ? Does touching it ground out the static charge holding the powder?
I don't think it is possible with this technique. The powder just melts @ there is no way to clean it up without destroying the layer. Electrical charge is not applied here.
Lets say I powder coated a part and a week later i decided that i didnt like the color, Can you recoat an item once it was powder coated without stripping it again??
Really glad to hear!
yep, they said it's quite a friendly poswder and there is no need to wear a mask ...
Great video, very informative
De vraag had ik ook gesteld. Dat is zo een 'bio'-powder die geen zijwerkingen heeft. Ik vind het onverantwoord!
А я делаю это так.Ich mach das einfach so.
Порошковая покраска в домашних условиях.Pulverbeschichtung zuhause. Powder coating at home.
Dude where did you park your iroc z with a bon jovi cassette? or is joe dirt borrowing it
Why does it take a week or two to get wheels coated? Is It just because the powder coater is busy or is it that long of a process??
One needs a couple of hours to get rims finished. They have rims coating scheduled once a week. All the other time. the oven used to coat other constructions.
Oh ok. Thanks so much. So I may get my rims this week. Yay. Lol
because theres just one poor guy working alon in the whole factory
having simple weels now ... winter tires etc... ;-( soon, the spring will come white once will come back ;-) thanks
Great Vid! OMG!!! Please tell your associate to use a respirator!
Mate, I have a question. I've got some alloy rims that I want to copper plate and then clear powder coat. You think it's gonna be ok without a primer?
He look like Dean Ambrose with mullet
😂
most pro coaters do not wear a mask , due to a companys great ventilation.
Instructive video.. cheers
Hello, Roman Can you help me with an info from this video at moment: 03:58-04:02, What is the name of they light grey coulor? and the Gunmetal grey... where i can find to buy this? Thanks in advance
Sorry, but I have no idea ... You can contact coatingplus.nl to get all those details. I don't even know what is the powder name for my white wheels ;-)
I tried to contact them but no answer :(. Many thanks anyway!
Blad3xl hello ,sir?are you still need some powder coatings product?may be our company can help you find some for your enquiry .my skype is :jierly.wang.
Awesome dude
Waar heb je het ergens laten poedercoaten ?
no mask?
What is those fonts at Intro and Credits?
Great to hear! Thnaks.
he don't have any face protection?
There would be nothing left to coat if they were in the oven for one hour at 1500 Celsius
True, I added a remark at that time code.
Loved this video :D ... Thank you.
I would like to ask if they are able to produce custom colors? Because where i'm staying, they do not do custom colors and i'm ask to get the powder myself and they'll spray for me. Hope to hear from you soon.
I know they have lots of different color and they do mix them too, but I can't tell if they can help you with your special color requirement
is it possible to check? I would like to spray my rims Takata Green. Wondering if they can come close to that color,
I talked to Coating Plus guys today and they don't mix colors, because the can buy whatever they want @ www.eurolacke.nl/. If I understood it correct those guys from eurolacke can serve your needs.
I hope it will work out for you mate!
Roman Shantyr Thanks roman, I've visited the website however i couldn't find an email to email them.I think they can serve my needs.
He knows quite well about the consequences, but made the choice .. I actually told him about YT comments ... quite some time ago.
Why haven't you said any word of the cost?
1500 degrees for an hour? surely that cannot be good for the wheels?
It looks 100 times better with white rims...!
btw, I hope the coating guy decided to use a mask if he's still alive... o.0
yes, he did and therefore is still alive ;-)
OK, now I'm relieved... :D
Excellent!
Check out my BMW E46 Wheel, Powder Coating video too!
Hello sir may i ask what best thing to do for second coating application, it should be the subrate hot or cold, need help for this , TIA
Hello, to apply the coating the substrate should always be hot. If you mean the second coating after months/years of usage - one should fully remove the previous coating down to bare metal.
In case you don't understand the speech, there are english and russian subtitles available ;-)
In case you don't understand subtitles, there is something wrong in general and I can't help you, mate ;-(
Ya, I was young and dumb once too... ;) I ruptured a disk in my back by "Not worrying about it" and I'll be paying for it for the rest of my life. Just saying.
