At Chrome Plating USA we are experts in chrome plating wheels. We are an IN-HOUSE plating shop. Call us for a quote for all your chrome plating needs.
Here in this video you see the electroplating process (not the metal polishing) :
copper plating | nickel plating | chrome plating | black chrome | powder coating | wheel repairs -
We are located in San Marcos CA
    CAPTION SUMMERY:
0:08sec: This wheel has already been strip, metal polish ( 3 step ) with hand tool detailing the base metal and copper plated and copper buffed out. We are now cleaning this wheel to take it to the bright nickel plating process
0:57sec: Drag Out and then Rinsing - this prevent cross contamination of plating process. Keeping the part wet is also critical in order to maintain surface activation
1:30min: Wheel is ready for the bright nickel plating process
1:50min: After the parts or wheels stay in the bright nickel plating process ( aprox 30min to 1 hour - varies) it is pulled out from the bath for drag out and then rinsing
3:30min: Visual Inspection before going into the final plating process - Chrome plating
4min: Click Thumbs Up if you liked and made it this far - Wheel is being prepare with proper tooling in order to improve chrome plating coverage
5:20min: Final plating process - Chrome plating
6:50min: Rinsing and final visual inspection

Absolutely beautiful. Seeing this labor intensive process, it is understandable why chrome plating is expensive. That doesn't even consider the HazMat costs associated with operating with all the chemicals involved.

Yes, this process is copper, nickel, chrome.
The first wheel you see is copper plated. The second one is nickel plated, which he then puts it into the chrome solution.
The gold coating is purely the chrome solution itself and is not a cosmetic alternative.
    Hope this helps :)

Ive been in the plating business for 35 years and never heard someone falling into a tank ever. Even if some did fall into a tank, all plating facilities have a safety protocol and emergency showers for protection of personnel. The tanks are heated but not boiling. Yes, plating is an aggressive industrial procedure. And all precautions are used for the the safety of people and enviroment.

Haha these ppl worried about falling in. I never heard of that but I bet it has happend. They should be worried about all the different acids we deal with like hydroflouric acid. As well as many others. There's a lot of nasty stuff in plating. They also might be interested in the fact gold platers deal with cyanide and have to be really attentive in a shop with cyanide and hydrochloric acid. Because the two mixed create the famous death chamber gas. Once that gas is let off you're dead in 30 to 45 mins and the fire Department is the only one with the anecdote. Usually they only have so many shots. Its a crazy job. Thats why I wrap cars now. I live in AZ and summers in a plating shop arr ridiculous at 5 in the morning within seconds your drenched with sweat. And steaming tanks and fumes. Kinda shitty. But I do love to plate.

Metal Plating and handle\ing is an aggressive procedure , all tanks are lined with thick plastic liners and what you hear as banging is the tooling rack. this rack (the tool that is holding the wheel) serves as a bumper to protect the wheel

    hi guys . nice work
important . when working with acid and caustic solutions
fold the last 2-3 inches of your gloves back over its self .
this creates a large V where acids / liquids get caught/pool rather than running down your glove and off the back . and when you lower your hand it runs back out .

metal finishing a definitely an aggressive process and does have metal finishing sounds. But note that all the tanks are make of plastic and or lined with a plasitc liners. Even though aluminum is considered a soft metal, aluminum alloy - this metal can handle grinding, polishibg and plating procedures. If aluminum handles rotation on the road, freeway, and supporting your vehicle...it can handle metal finishing.

Plastic as custom is complicated as plastic finishing is meant for production runs. There are two methods : #1 - conductive paint application (silver being the best ) then electroless copper then you go to the regular Plating process. Using bright nickle Plating then chrome Plating Plastic needs to be strip to a virgin state with out warping.
