Although I like modern tastes, I would prefer a traditional afternoon tea, just crustless sandwiches, scones and traditional cakes. Wasabi and hoisin duck wraps just don’t work for me in that setting. Not sure why really. I once got a dairy free afternoon tea in the Sheraton and it was so disappointing. But afternoon tea should be real cream and cheese and butter, etc.
We had afternoon tea at the Dome a few weeks ago - it was fabulous!!! We absolutely loved everything and the whole experience was just so fun! My husband wanted to do it again! I’d like to try afternoon tea at the Balmoral next time, although I would definitely go back to the Dome again. The library you visited for tea looks so gorgeous too! Thanks for the video!
Signet library is a stunning place worked there a few times and still work for the same company Head Chef Aung is a fantastic guy and an even better Chef and the manager Franz is also a lovely man
I had Afternoon Tea at the Holyrood palace Café with my mom. Everything was really deliciuos and with 21£ (without Champagne) or 30 £ (with ch.) it is a reasonable price. you'll sit away from the Café guests, get a quick introduction and tea explanation. It is always nice idea - especially on rainy days. But I must say: the Signet Library is gorgeous! (And a lovely place for a wedding...)
That sounds lovely! I always like the little garden seating they have there, although I guess the sunny days on which that sort of seating is afternoon tea friendly are limited 😬 glad to hear you enjoyed your time there!
The tone of your voice alone would make me choose the expensive afternoon tea. Can’t wait to visit Edinburg again and experience afternoon tea for the first time and will definitely consider Signet Library.
The place has a really nice quiet vibe, admittedly we booked for relatively early in the day (11 I believe) and pretty much had the whole place to ourselves! Felt super exclusive that way!
Thanks for leaving the bloopers in at the end :) Totally worth going to the posh one, but I did have a bit of a nostalgia trip eating those white bread cheese and tomato sammiches too
If you were in any doubt, I can definitely say it’s the place to go for afternoon tea. And Edinburgh is lovely in October! You will have a fantastic time!
Just got back from Edinburgh (2 years after this video was posted) and wanted to add a few budget choices. For a super-basic experience, M&S Simply Food offers afternoon tea in their café for £12.50 per person starting at 3 pm. It's a good choice if it's raining outside and you're tired from walking 20,000 steps that day as we were. It's decent, but nothing to go Instagram gaga over (not that I use Instagram). For a much nicer atmosphere, The Ivy, which overlooks St. Andrews Square, is £33.50 per person from 3-5 pm, BUT (secret unlocked) you can just opt for a cream tea from 11:30 - 5pm for £10.50 per person, or £20.50 if you want to add sparkling wine. I'm not big on soft, crustless sandwiches, so this was a good choice for my tastes.
Thank you so much for sharing!! Those are great tips ♥️ (I am actually thinking about making a follow up video so I’ll probably get to test them out soon! .) )
Thanks for your vlog. We will be traveling there in May. I love tea and am looking forward to afternoon teas on our travels. We are from southeast Texas.
Oh yes!! I thought you might be off to the colonnades. I’ve been singing their praise since I went last October. Totally worth it even for those of us on a budget … I still haven’t had a better tea anywhere in the country. Your little happy food dance is exactly how I felt when those flavors hit. Thank you for taking me back to my happy place!
Hello I was just in Edinburgh for the first time ever I loved it, if I may say it’s a bucket list city . Thank you Kati your videos helped me out very much. Just one thing that seemed strange for me was the hours the businesses keep, be sure to check before you go anywhere what their closing time is it could vary from 2 pm or 5 pm or 7 or 9 pm etc.
for me the best afternoon tea is at Prestonfield Hotel. Everything has a very unique flavour but still feels as a traditional afternoon tea. highly recommended!
Modern day Princes Street, boarded up or empty shops. Sad. The Signet library afternoon tea is probably the pinnacle of Edinburgh eating. Such class, such variety. Wish they would leave a wee card as I never remember what everything is. Tempted to try the Caley or Balmoral but their menus look more limited.
@@Dylan-fc1ce thanks. Not like I am there every week but I think folk would like to have something to refer to when stuffing their face with such opulence
Strange question... but is there anywhere in the city which you can chill in when its raining? As in something like a work space or a lobby which you can sit in?
I think the free museums might be good for that - national museum especially is large and has a plenty of seating options. Galleries, too - all of them are usually free to enter and nobody would have a problem with you just popping in to chill! For a longer sit down I like to visit hotel lobbies, there's an app called Swurf which collates local hotels that are totally ok with you coming in for a coffee and a couple of hours of work!
The central library on George IV bridge used to be good but it's been a while and I have a bad feeling it's been turned into a hotel. If not, I'd recommend it.
Another great video on a topic I was just recently wondering about! Prefer the inexpensive place with the scones made from teeth breaking stone crumbles. Thanks!
The cheapie tea sounds like a great place for people to meet for a "gab and chew" - not especially special but a bit more refined than grabbing a burger, nice enough for the lower cost, perfectly acceptable. (Also - AND THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION - I should note that I found the video's music too horrid and annoying to sit through so I ended up having to fast-forward through a lot. It sounded like it was recorded onto warped vhs tapes and was recorded from there onto warped cds - not a good sound. Again this is ONLY my opinion so ignore at will.)
There are thankfully many at around 25-30 mark that are very nice as well! I did notice the prices jumping up for many establishments in the last months though 😭
There used to be, but these days it's hard to find - prices went up a lot in the last two years and it will likely only continue. I'd recommend looking at sites like Itison and look for a voucher!
I would argue that the Palm Court Afternoon Tea at the Balmoral is the most expensive in Edinburgh. Also @7:31 why were you guessing the food items? They should all be in the menu.
Truthfully, the desserts were better for the cheap tea. I love chocolate. But, of course, the rest of the teatime at the more expensive Cafe was better!
I loooooooove Edinburgh and I looooooove aternoon tea. When I visit again from Montréal in november I will have afternoon tea at The Balmoral's Palm court.
It's fantastic that you make these kind of videos, but O-M-G... 60 quid is too much for "a tea". I can have dinner in a Michelin starred restaurant in my area with (more or less) that. Or four set menus! Can you imagine how many 'pintxos' can I eat and how many 'txakolis' or beers can I have with that money???
Hello my Scone-y Island Babies! Could you tell where in the video we still had to deal with our old camera and where we got to upgrade?

@Lynda Burns I feel your pain re: "...dairy free afternoon tea in the Sheraton..." lol
All your videos are very informative and are great to watch, though they do make you feel hungry.

The Dome would deffo be next on my list! How much is their afternoon tea?
@@Kakibot it was £27 unless you want champagne then it’s more.
Thank you soooo much!!!!! I was afraid that it won’t worth for £50, but now I couldn’t wait to try it!

Wow. I checked out the website and it looks great. Sadly, there are no bookings available for the next two weeks.
Sounds like you had a lovely time and the price was right!
I love the afternoon tea in the library 🙂

I was just discussing with friends where were should have afternoon tea in Edinburgh when we are there in October. You are brilliant! Thank you.

Love the video and the comparison. We had before noon tea at Mimi’s Bakery and it was so good!
Oooh yes that’s a good choice! Breakfast food is the best of all foods ✨
Do any of these places have gluten free options for afternoon tea?

Absolutely, the opening times are a bit of a mess. Including how some places open just Thursday -Sunday or similarly hard to predict times!
Booked a tea here (colonnade) for April! Yummm!!!!!

The mushroom shirt has reappeared. I must schedule afternoon tea with my friend next time I’m there. Sugar + tea, win.

I had afternoon tea in The Dome during Christmas time. It was so good!! And the decor 😍🎄
We tried the breakfast one they had on during that time! Was yours the usual "non-breakfasty" one? It really is stunning in there isn't it.
Where is the Dome?
Clarinda's Tearoom is a wonderful place for Afternoon Tea. It's at the bottom of the Royal Mile, very cozy and the tea and food are amazing.
Absolutely! Coincidentally coming up in one of the May videos! .)
You must try the Dome on george street. Fabulous food and the service is exeptional

I went to the Restoration Yard Tea Room in Dalkeith last month and the sweets and atmosphere were amazing 👌🏻💞☕️
Ooooh good tip! I need to go back there sometime, love me a good country park in autumn
Going to Edinburgh next week! What place for afternoon tea would you recommend over all in Edinburgh? At like medium price range 😊
I think the Dome is a very classic Edinburgh experience - beautiful space, too!
Ready to fly to Edinburgh just for afternoon tea in the library
Would absolutely be worth it!!
Wow, what an experience that 50 pound one! Would love to take hubby there if we ever get to visit a second time
Definitely an amazing date spot! I've also heard from many people that their Christmas afternoon tea menu was very special .) !
Awesome idea! Please check out other places in Edinburgh for aft tea too 👀
Awesome video! Thx K
Looks delicious !!
Enjoyed this video! The £50 AT is out of my budget, but maybe one day...
There are thankfully many at around 25-30 mark that are very nice as well! I did notice the prices jumping up for many establishments in the last months though 😭
What kind of drinks did you have with your expencive afternoon tea? Champagne? Free choises of drinks? Also, is it pr person?
Appreciate you seeking out some budget along with pricy tea ☕️ and crackers.. I mean scones
Hehe... I meeean... the flavour was still there I guess .D people with solid jaw joints might still enjoy them! .D
@@Kakibot my mom makes scones from scratch and are probs as dry and crumbely as the ones Simon was trying.. no good 😠lol

Haha .D I'm sure they'd be.... flattered by your reaction? .D
You should definitely go I worked there the staff and chefs are fantastic

You have a darling tea mate
£25.00 afternoon tea at Edinburgh Castle
Did you give it a go? How was it? .) Would love to hear your review!
i want to get some treats >
Should have gone to Bonhams hotel for afternoon tea, better than where you went
Signet library is 60 pounds now :D :D

The first one has bad scones, but the second had too many options. I could eat a whole plate of scones
Nothing says high end like abandoned boarded up commercial space in the bottom of the building 😳
Princes Street is really a struggle to photograph well these days .(

I feel you - coming from a land of the 80p pint I also shed a tear over just how expensive Edinburgh is these days 🥲
Those scones on the first one looked pretty awful 😣
Hello beautiful 🌹
