About Love and London:
I'm Jess, I've lived in London for many years, and this channel is a London travel guide for anyone visiting the city that wants to experience it like you live here. Beyond talking about the usual London attractions, myself and my team show you some of the cooler things to do in London, that most travel guides don't mention. Watch our videos and you'll feel like you've got a Londoner friend telling you the best kept secrets in the city.
If you haven't yet, I highly recommend checking out the afternoon tea at the Wolseley next to the Ritz! Amazing feel, mid price range, insanely good vegetarian/ vegan selection and they offer free refills of everything (yes, we ate so many scones and had sandwich and mini battenberg refills...)
For the free refills, did you just ask them for it? I hear that there is free tea refills but not sure about the pastry and sandwiches etc
I’m a Brit and I’m getting quite old… afternoon tea is still on my to do list - don’t worry even we Brits can’t agree whether to say skon or skoan
😂😂
Skon
Skon
It depends where you come from in the UK as to how you pronounce it. Where I grew up everyone said Skoan, scon just sounds pretentious to me.
Skon
I really enjoyed the afternoon tea at the English Rose Cafe. It cost £22 and came with a range of desserts, scones and finger sandwiches
Can you please tell me the location of this place in london.
The price point you mentioned is closer to my budget.
Also do they provide vegetarian and eggless options if you remember?
@@pinkheart315 location: 4 Lower Grosvenor Pl, London .
They do have vegetarian options, but not vegan or gluten-free
@@gabijadisk6877 Ok thank you.
I am vegetarian so all I need is no egg in the dishes. That's enough for me 😊
Thank you. I’m staying at the Rubens at the palace and this is right across the street. I noticed it a few months back and it’s funny seeing it mentioned in the comments.
Great video Jess, always good to know the best places to go!
Lovely video ❤ Your so humble and honest, appreciate that!
Another informative gem. Splendid Jess. Thanks a bunch luv ❤😊
A fantastic video - thank-you! It’s given me lots of ideas and at places I would never have thought of!
really enjoyed this afternoon tea comparison!❤ can't wait to experience these❤❤
love your sense of humor-and the remark on folks in the comments-Let em' have it! thank you for these vlogs- wonderful!
Great video as always! Great selection of price points and ideas 👌🏻
Thanks for watching ❤️❤️
Coming back to London next year with my family. Afternoon tea is in our list! Thank you for this video! Learning a lot from your videos and shorts ❤
You're very welcome ❤️❤️
i love your videos. We are looking forward to our trip in June.
I went to the Wallace Collection for afternoon tea when I was there! Glad to see it made the list!
Lovely ❤️
Great comprehensive recommendations.
We did afternoon tea at the Ting, there was a light rain and it made the view even better if that’s possible. I also ate a few things I would have never considered otherwise
Eagerly waiting for this video! Loved it.❤
❤️❤️❤️
In London right now, been an awesome trip so far, loving it… and the temps! Staying in southwark close to tower bridge…
I went for afternoon tea in Harrods this weekend, and it was a lovely experience. I would reccommend it.
I Love to the Amazing Afternoon Tea in London and thank you, Jess 💕
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very informative!
I really enjoy the way you present things (through American eyes but acclimated to the London ), it’s easy and takes the stress away.
I’m American and I understand your jokes and mannerisms.
I cannot wait to go to London ❤
Love all the different price points and experiences 💪🏼
We're glad to hear you're enjoying it all ❤️❤️❤️
Another good video from an excellent host. Love her stuff!
Thanks for watching our videos!
London is always beautiful European city for me Dear Jess.🥰😍🤗
I LOVE that costume about the afternoon tea. 🎉🎉🎉lovely video. Please Carry on so❤❤you are great💃💃fantastic Cicerone👏👏👏👏👏👏
So helpful 🎉 thanks
I had afternoon tea at Harrods years ago and it was a very nice tea. They kept bringing more scones:) I’m a jam first girl.
We did the RAH guided tour and afternoon tea - interesting tour and nice tea lovely service didn't break the bank but we don't have anything to compare to since it was our first (not last!)
Tea for 2 Jess...Brilliant!
Thanks for the great info! Just checked and the Sanderson is now £60! Must be holiday prices.
Tea and scones perfect for me . Love a good scone . From Canada originally now in nc coming to london . Will do the wallace . Excellent idea
I like the idea of reviewing a top, mid and everyday Afternoon Teas. Thanks for the video!
You're very welcome!
Thanks!!
I very much like the Cornwall cream tea! Jam first then cream!
I’m so excited! I’m going to London in February and I’ve literally been binge watching your whole channel all week! First time in London 😊
❤️❤️❤️
me too girl!! I just booked my flights in the morning and I have been dreaming for this. Already planned everything out. I hope you will enjoy your trip 🥰🥰
@@valinski_ amazing!! I’m still planning haha and thank you! I hope you enjoy your trip as well 😊
I've been waiting for this video to get some recommendations and like the look of the Mad Hatter afternoon tea. When I visit London I usually have coffee and cake at The Parlour at Fortnum and Mason its usually fairly quiet and relaxed in the afternoon. They do savouries, cakes, ice cream and an afternoon tea for £23, not bad for that part of London.
Don't forget we have lots of our top reccs in our itinerary: shop.loveandlondon.com/collections/itineraries
I'm lucky enough to live near London and hope to visit more often post Covid so I'm going to get a couple of your Casual Tourist guides@@loveandlondon
OK I've purchased The Casual Tourist Guide to West London as I'm going to Japan House on Kensington High Street, very impressed by the digital map its exactly what I'll need to do a bit of exploring.
"Deal with it". I cackled when I heard this I love it.
😎😎
This was lovely Jess, thank you! Makes me want to come back to London!
We're glad to hear it :)
Thanks for sharing, shared.
So glad you included The Sanderson. We did it and LOVED it! Good work Jess!
And to think I was in London last Saturday….and then again last Monday/Tuesday and I didn’t have afternoon tea once ??!! ….what was I doing !!! ps the answer was on Tuesday afternoon I was at a show at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane which I was very pleasantly surprised by the interior and ambience…. They do afternoon tea…. Very convenient for tired legs near Covent Garden.
Dear Jess; I,m staying at Meliá White House and when I asked them a nice play for having afternoon tea, they suggested the very same hotel.
Nonetheless I do not want to spend my leisure time in my hotel and, since I,m at London, I decided to attend another establishment.
Yes, the one from one review of yours, so : Fortnum and Mason was my choice. I,ll keep ypo posted!
For my money considering price, quality and ambiance I recommend the Palm Court at the Firtzroy in Bloomsbury.
Love your videos!
(But sorry, I am Cornwall all the way when it comes to scones and clotted cream. And … “white” and “chocolate” should never be used next to each other. 😅)
A lot of people don't have afternoon tea and cakes etc. It's a misconception to assume that everyone in the UK follows this tradition. But absolutely worth producing a vlog like this one. Many thanks - keep them coming! 👍
Your very good at what you do 🙂
We appreciate the kind words :)
I would go to tea by the water and scones!!
Just Lovely
For a second when you said vegetarian tea, I was like huh???? Then I realized 😂
Planning on taking my son for his 13th birthday to the Shard building at Ting for afternoon tea. You are welcome to join us 👍. Although still a long way to go (June 2024) 😂
The Shangri la hotel looks nice and the desert looks delicious 😋
❤️❤️
I just love tea. I would have no problem in splashing the cash in London. 👍😊💙🇮🇪🇬🇧
❤️❤️
Not sure I'm fancy enough for it, but it all looked wonderful! 😂
i love the teas
Sounds like I would love London! But intensive on the sweets........
I was schooled in Tasmania and I love scones. When I was back to Germany I would bake my own scones and in summer I would make my own raspberry jam 😊. Oh people don’t get scones. They just don’t. 😂
My vote goes to the Savoy afternoon tea, but there are many other great ones.
Food looks tasty
We will be staying near The Wallace Collection, looking forward to having our afternoon tea there.
Enjoy!
Excited for this video. We will be in London next week! I booked tea at the Wolseley for the first day. Excited!!
Nice! Be sure to grab our itinerary too! shop.loveandlondon.com/collections/itineraries
Personally I always put the clotted cream first on the scone. Then when I put the jam on top, nobody can see how greedy I have been with the cream!
That looks like the gardens of Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park at the beginning of the video?
Hey Jess, how are you? I came across your youtube video whilst trying to search for something on the net. Initially saw your Afternoon Tea videos which were great. Loved the review. Haven't got round to the Fortnum & Mason Afternoon tea as yet. Just as a recommendation have you been to the Indian Afternoon Tea at The Taj St James Court. Great food and service. The Taj has been voted World's strongest brands last year. They treat you like royalty, it's a whole different level of Afternoon Tea, lots of sweet and savoury treats, also perfect for vegetarians. It has Indian and western fusion going on.
We love that hotel ❤️❤️
Love your videos, which are in a league of their own. You and your team deserve to be on national TV.
Thanks so much ❤️❤️
I think the volume is little low ... but great video as always!
I think it's excellent that you took in consideration different price points. I'm Colombian, in our culture we do "elevens" and afternoon tea/coffee. I've been to many high teas and I love them. But, for me, your latter option of just the scones and tea was lovely and just the right amount of food I want in an afternoon snack. This is a recommendation I've never seen before. Could you tell me, do bakeries in London also offer tea and a place to sit? Or is it more like most French or Italian bakeries/bars where you take your coffee standing?
Some bakeries have seating, some don't! ❤️
Agree about cream tea, usually the full afternoon tea is too much food for the afternoon. Highly recommend the Ivy (they have restaurants in many locations) great surroundings, great service and great quality. You can even get cream tea at one of London’s top hotels, The Lanesborough and it’s a lot less expensive than the full option.
@@paullewis2413 Thank you. Excellent recommendation.
It would be good if you shared some healthy places to eat/drink thst are still special 😊
sweetcakes sounds nice
Pink nails ☺️👍
So pleased you call it by its proper name and not "high" tea", which is completely different
Love this video! Have you tried any fully vegan afternoon teas in London? Are there many in the city?
Yes !! Most of the high end places can accommodate, our faves are in our London Itineraries: shop.loveandlondon.com/collections/itineraries
👋🏼 First video and I’m subscribed! Enjoy your presentation (and content, of course). 😜 I have seen other British people doing afternoon/high teas and they say you don’t slice the scone, you twist them open. 😳 I say scone like it’s spelled. Long O! 🤣 You have one of Heathrow so, onward I go. 👉🏼🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed! Be sure to watch our latest video for food and drink hidden gems: ruclips.net/video/-eiHQ1_GrKQ/видео.html&t
Our tea at Grosvenor House was fantastic but that Mad Hatter tea is adorable!
There is a tea place in St Louis, MO called The London Tea Room ( owned by British expats) that has a great afternoon tea for the price. They have authentic clotted cream. We go every few years when visiting family.
We're big Grosvenor House fans ❤️
I found The Ritz to do the best all round experience and choices, although it did have a dress code, might not be the case now.
Yes it does still have a dress code
I've read that some places allow you to order more of something if you like it, without an extra charge. Is this only at the more expensive places? We plan to have afternoon tea at Claridge's on our trip to the UK, but Ting's looks AMAZING!
I went to Claridges about 7 years ago and yes they allow us to order more of the savory sandwiches. And just had tea last week at the dorchester and they allowed more sandwhiches. When you are paying $100 per person they allow it lol
Most of the higher-end places allow you reorder some of it!
Claridges is amazing. They allowed me to have seconds.
Nice video as always :) And comes just at the right time. When looking for an afternoon tea/dinner for my upcoming London trip, I noticed a lot of restaurants are asking credit card information in advance, is this normal? And do you have recommendations for restaurants that are easy to book? :D
Yes that's normal for popular and high-end places as if you don't show up or cancel last minute they will charge you. We have tons of easy to visit reccs in our guides if you're not finding enough on this channel: shop.loveandlondon.com
Jess, heading to London in Oct. What are your fave veg restaurants?
Hello! The city is so big and there are so many to choose from so it's hard to only suggest a few as it also depends on what your budget is, where you'll be located at the time, etc. Our London itineraries and Casual Tourist Guides are where you'll find our top veggie recommendations but they're grouped by area or by a single route to follow so you can easily figure out how to work them into your plans without having to spend hours on public transport. Have a look here: shop.loveandlondon.com
Thank you! Do you have options for the food at all? Or it's a set thing?
Set, with usually a couple options for GF, veggie etc
I 'll have the pink Champagne thanks
🥂🥂🥂🥂
Hey could you do a guide of Kensington? My girlfriend and I are staying in a hotel there in early December. Any pub or history suggestions? Thank you love the videos
Kensington doesn't have a TON of good places, our favourites for West London (like in Notting Hill) are in the Casual Tourist Guide to West London: shop.loveandlondon.com/products/casual-tourist-guide-to-west-london
Pls do ritz afternoon tea
Cream then jam. Nice. 😁
I am sure this is going to sound super touristy, but we did get the afternoon tea in the cafe in the Westminster Abbey during our tour there. It was a lovely break and I recall it being very tasty. It was about the lower end of the midpoint per person on your list. Granted, it was largely a convenience thing, but we still enjoyed it.
❤️❤️
I’ve done it twice cost a bomb but worth it
How is the afternoon tea at Harrods?
All looks terrific. I hope when I go to the high-end tea I’ve booked for my May holiday, they’ll let me swap out things I don’t like, such as fish & seafood or coffee desserts🤢 🤞🏼
You can't really swap that specifically but you can often tell them ahead of time if you're allergic to seafood.
@@loveandlondonIt worked! (At the Cafe Royal, which must be one of the most expensive teas in London. But it was fab-u-luscious!!!! 😊The venue couldn’t be more over-the-top fancy, but it was an awesome experience, I highly recommend adding to the Bucket list!)
I can't imagine paying that much for something that isn't a full meal. The only one I would like to try is the last one.
You're extremely full afterwards
I liked the afternoon tea at the Wallace Collection but I see online they already increased their price by 10£!
We filmed this last year so yes that's not surprising!
What about the Sky garden behind your back ?
We generally don't rate the food there
Hiii! I'm going to London, more specifically, Dulwich, and I was looking for some afternoon tea spot there. Any ideas?😊
Probably too late for you now, but I'm pretty sure the cafe/restaurant at the Dulwich Picture Gallery does afternoon tea.
I will visit London next Spring and would like to try an afternoon tea for the first time. Is there any etiquette to the afternoon tea. Are those sweet refillable? Can I take what leftover home? Is there a place for solo? Thank you!
Most places allow solo and to take stuff home, refillable depends on the place, generally its so much food without the refills!
Has anyone had the Wicked themed afternoon tea at the Clermont? I got it as a package deal before I watch the Wicked show 😊
When someone mentioned your pronunciation on Instagram I lost it laughing after this
I say scone, so deal with it 👍
Exactly
Hi! i tried finding the cream tea in chelsea garden’s the ivy menu, but couldn’t find it in any. is there a link?
It's not on their menu you have to ask for it!
@@loveandlondon 😮thank you!
I'm a Trekkie, so I'd probably grab my tea and say "Print out urgent on all stations, on all decks...prepare for emergency saucer sep". 🤣🤣🤣
The Ivy is now £32.95 for afternoon tea. Tripled in price in just 9 months.
We didn't do afternoon tea! As mentioned, it was CREAM tea, which is significantly cheaper.
I thought the Ivy seemed really good value, and what I would go for. I noticed you didn’t actually compare the quality of the scones, I think that is important.
It's definitely the cheapest!
The Ivy does afternoon tea with the savouries and sweets too (not just scones) and all of their restaurants are lovely and individually decorated so no two are the same. its very affordable in comparison with the 5 star hotels which are now nudging at £70-100 + which I do think is a bit ridiculous for a sandwich and some cakes!
Hi! Where can I go for an afternoon tea on Christmas day? I've tried checking out the Ritz, Claridge's, no luck! Help!
Read this! loveandlondon.com/london-christmas-day/
@loveandlondon I loved your ideas on that blog post, but unfortunately none of the places you named, do afternoon tea on Christmas day...
These all look wonderful. Unfortunately, I have become gluten intolerant. Did you notice if any of your options offered a gluten-free alternative?
Yes most can accommodate GF if you let them know in advance ❤️
Thank you. That is great to know. Now I can look forward to trying it!
I used to love scones at afternoon tea, but I’ve noticed that some places seem to under-bake the scone, ruining the experience. I am now scone-shy.
Hm never seen that 😎
I may have missed it, but what was the cost @ TINGS?
Thanks for the "Heart", but any chance you could answer the question?
Are there any afternoon tea options in London where we don’t need advance reservations? Most of the ones we researched don’t appear to accommodate walk-ins…
Generally no!
I wanted to have an afternoon tea at Futnum&Maison few years ago, and I needed it gluten free and vegan. But alas, they had it either GF either Vegan, to have it both was not possible to combine. The staff was very nice and apologized, I think they were a bit embarrassed....
Did you let them know in advance that that's what you needed?
No i didnt. But even if I did, it wouldn't help, since they don't have a combined option.@@loveandlondon
