can a contaminated filter shut down a motor? I recently had my 115 four stroke yamaha shut down after it had ran for a few minutes and would not restart. i am the original owner and after 2 years know that it has never been changed
Yes if the filter is clogged up really bad, not enough fuel will be supplied to the engine to keep it running. Change the water fuel separator every season after around 80 to 100 hours max

Fill them with fuel before you reinstall them or be ready to pump the primer ball till your hand falls off. I made that mistake years ago.

Did he prime that new filter with gas ⛽️? If not he has some air in those lines
