It's very popular for people to blame small engine and outboard problems on ethanol. Myself I have used ethanol ever since it came out to being 10% around 2005 /2007 somewhere in there and issue free. For my small engines I have a dry erase board in my storage building that every month I right down that I have started and ran all my engines (mowers, chainsaw, weedeater, leaf blower) and on my outboard (which mine is a 1998 johnson 115hp) I always run the fuel completely out (choke it to make sure I get it all out) if I am not going back in a week or so. I have no reason to make this up. I have never had a fuel related problem with any of these engines. For those that want to spend alot of extra money for treatments and ethanol free fuel that is your choice, just telling how I do it. Thanks Capt for another nice video!

I appreciate you sharing your awesome idea captain and it makes a lot of sense if you run the engine all the way with no fuel Then there's no reason why you have a problem very smart thanks for sharing captain👍

i used rec fuel exclusively, but i have been told that cycling a little pump gas every now and then helps pull whatever moisture may be in gas or tank out and exhausts it. rec fuel will not absorb water and it'll just accumulate in tank. so those bahama fill ups may actually be helping out.

If you use your boat a lot then pump gas is ok if it’s sits like mine, you need rec fuel mines going on two yrs since I used it and I have a little 12volt fuel pump low volume pumps a qt a minute one gallon every for minutes I use it to fill my generator took three gallons out to see how bad it looked and to my amazement perfect nothing in it couldn’t believe it. I use Evinrude 2+4 fuel conditioner for my 300 etec aka Brutus. If you think you have water get a product called dry gas it mixes with water and makes it where it will burn it off JT HOOKED N ROLLING OFFSHORE 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐠🐟🛥🛥

Non ethanol gas is key especially if you don't use the entire tank of gas every time. Ethanol attracks tons of water especially in a marine environment. Yamaha recommends to you yamha ring free 1 Oz per ten gallons of fuel every time you add gas. Seafoam is good too but not sure how it does with carbon buildup. Great video as always

If I ever meet the individual that invented those things I’m going to mash his pinky toe!
Aside from that, be careful filling your filters and placing them on the fiberglass. Gasoline will dissolve the wax and stain the gel coat quickly.

Hi Capt... I've never (yet) had water in my filter. I'm careful where I get fuel, and use only ValveTech gasoline. (We have 3 local places that sell it). There are 'supposedly' added treatments in the ValveTech fuels; and I 'suppose' I'll never know for sure ☺....
I'm coming up on 1200 hours, so I have replaced the filter 8-9 times (The boat had about 200 hours on it when I bought it, best I can remember)... Like I see in the 'comments' below, parts like the Yamaha filters are getting hard to find... I still have a few in my inventory, so maybe things will get better before I need more....

Thanks for watching captain in wow a 1200 hours that is a lot but a well kept engine could run 3000 to 4000 hours👍👍
