Reviving some old practices that were used in building 13th Century castles could save some of these giant old houses that are abandoned and falling apart. Paying an entire community of people to live in the surrounding area and work on the house, rather than a handful of private contractors paid from a single wallet. Loads of these projects go bust because money just isn't worth what it used to be and building materials are only getting more expensive reflecting house prices, private ventures can haemorrhage money and bankrupt their owners. it's a real shame to see these gorgeous buildings falling into disrepair. If these properties were publicly owned, funded and maintained instead of belonging to landowner families they might survive. You could comfortably house loads of people in there, or use it for a hotel/retreat. It's a really beautiful house, can only imagine what it looked like before it was gutted. Those rough stone walls should never be covered up.

what an amazing place with an equal amazing staircase. someone is DEFINATELY renovating the rooms. the wooden beams are quite new light brown wood, not old faded and blackening. if they are restoring, this place will be worth a fortune, the views are gorgeous too.
Hi guys. Loving your videos. I think the house was gutted to remove mould etc in order to renovate. In Australia homes that have been flooded look like that to dry them right out before rebuilding. But then again I am no expert 😅
Im not sure why but I cant get enough of you lot wandering around places and talking shit..... but what stands out is your respect for the locations and interest in the actual structure. Love it
I can only say that in the US most building codes are against using screws for framing, you can even fail an inspection for using them. It's like cuz man says in the video, nails will "bend", screws will snap.

Great vid. It is tragic to see the amount of time and money which someone has poured into stripping the house of all its character. Looks like they wanted to create an interior that would look like a new-build in this lovely old stately home. They would have been better off skimming some of the walls directly over the stonework, applying damp treatment where needed (though it all looked dry as a bone in the vid) and re-pointing others but leaving the stonework bare, working with the house rather than against it. At some point this house will come into new ownership and all that studwork will no doubt be ripped out because people usually buy places like that because they like the character of the building, not to cover it all up.
I reckon someone started having a go at renovating that place fairly recently, like a few years ago? Then ran out of money and put the project on hold. Making derelict houses habitable again is horrendously expensive. It's often cheaper to flatten and rebuild, but that place might have a listing or be under the care of English Heritage? Looks like there were trying to do an alright job of it. Should be an amazing place once it's done. Of course, old houses like that often end up with strange layouts compared to modern builds because people used their space differently in those days. I suspect the covered up furniture is a mixture of salvage and stuff that was in the house when they bought it. Did you ever go to Sharpcliffe Hall in Derbyshire? It was up for sale a few years ago and I was kind of tempted? It's miles from anywhere but looked an amazing place. It needed work though, I think the roof on the squash court had fallen in. In the end someone bought it for £850k I think? I don't know if they ever started work on it. To be honest I'd say you've missed the boat if you've not been. Looks like someone's renovated it and moved in looking at google maps:- www.google.com/maps/place/Sharpcliffe+Hall,+Sharpcliffe,+Ipstones,+Stoke-on-Trent+ST10+2LJ/@53.0670157,-1.9892872,265m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x487a3fa5ea044323:0xfeae9e72f61b77b3!8m2!3d53.0659338!4d-1.9868865

I said over on fb earlier that I thought the still shot at the beginning was gorgeous... And then discovered hours later upon getting to see the video, it's bloody hilarious start 😂 But what a really beautiful but sad place. It's just a skeleton structure internally, every single thing ripped out, nothing internally of its style or date. It does look like one person is trying to do it up. Very odd. It's lost all character, all sense of use or purpose for each room and not a servants staircase either? It's really been pulled apart 😔 Did find Lloydy saying he watches videos on nails unexpected 😂
That was a nice calm video of a huge stately home.. I guess whoever started to attempt the renovation, perhaps decided it was a money pit... Nice to see a place without “ penis art” 😄👌🏻
