    What is Self-furring galvanized Stucco Netting?
    Friends, we are located in Oakland, CA.
    Here are all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.

    www.StuccoPlas... Kirk’s website.
    www.GiordanoPl... Jason’s Website.
    I’m explaining the 17 gauge galvanized woven wire for stucco or deep or Self-furring stucco netting.
    As a rule for use in stucco, we prefer to use either 17 or 18 gage stucco nettings; anything lighter, like the 20-gauge wire, is mainly used for tile settings or for shower pans and or actually chicken coops.
    Yes, I had a chicken a coop with about 7 chickens which I did indeed attach the 20 gauge wire, as that lighter gauge wire is okay to keep the chicken in and the animals out.
    As a rule, I prefer 17 gauge or 18; as I said in this video, I dislike applying stucco, and hearing it fall off.
    It sounds like cows crapping on flat rocks.
    Most plastering yards sell the deep or self-furred woven wire for stucco, so if this deep-furred stucco netting appeals to you, Google “plastering yards near me.”
    Think of stucco netting like Dobies for concrete. The Dobies keep the rebar off the ground; this way, the cement goes under the rebar two inches, and then above the rebar two inches, the rebar is in the middle of the poured concrete, where it makes the concert as strong as possible. The deep-furred stucco netting or wire allows the stucco under and over this netting, making the stucco as strong as possible.

    Haha. Excellent story about the chrome playing shop. “When I was 15 I worked around vats of acid with no shirt on” haha. These days they would have the national guard raid a business if they suspected 15 yr olds actually working in there. I started working with my uncle when I was 12 doing concrete sidewalks, driveways and curbing, etc. This was around 1999 and he got constantly asked about me by the home owners. Lol. “Is he old enough to be doing this?”

    I wanted to just fill in where it had blown with some quick set but the guy wants it re rendered.

      you would have had to place a moisture barrier under that sheet.
      Plus stucco won't adhere to insulation board, you can use the lightweight stucco netting 20 gage to hang the stucco to.

    Kirk, when I see you doing stucco or plaster it reminds me of my mother’s old home place. They did a lot or work on it recently and they saved a 2x3 section of the old plaster and lathe. Amazed at how heavy it is (we kept it just to show people - had horse hair). My question is how is it that houses can support such tremendous weight (stucco, plaster, etc.) without a lot of planning? Do you run into problems with structural failures due to the additional weight?

    another great video. Question? If you have some possibly inferior cmu or concrete block, could you use the wire, to help reinforce the block? or would you just go straight like most of your applications? Project is done where I have to use sand and cement only... no premade bags available. Thanks.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 лет назад

      Howdy Ada, if it were me, I would pressure wash the cum blocks then apply a bonding agent then apply cement plaster, (stucco)
      No stucco netting and certainly no premixed stucco.

      Thank you. On the same, should I consider adding any fibers to the cement and sand mixture, say 1 pound per bag of concrete? As I said, where this is going in is in a warm country, averaging 80 degrees year round, no freezing weather to consider, but not all block is liable to pass 5he strength tests and I know that they do not make concrete that is always decent as far as filling the voids in the block. Thus, all my strength seems to be the columns and the floor decking, with the bond beam. Many times I see them using what I consider an inferior mix of concrete, making it slushy to get around rebar, rather than using any vibrators or any plasticisor... in fact I cannot find plasticisor at local suppliers. Thus, I am trying to find such here in Britain or in Atlanta to ship down and use in the future sections of building work.

    Kirk thanks for words of wisdom, I've started to redo a building wall, I see that you use the chicken wire, my question is why do you use it more than the screen mesh lathe, I bought the screen from home depot's which is better?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  5 лет назад

      Howdy Mark, for walls the 17 or 18 gauge stucco nettings is better.
      For ceilings, 3.4 flat mesh is better as the holes are very small, which holds the stucco better.

    Can I use galvanized diamond lath that's not furred? Is there a way I can fur lath that's not furred? Can you use different brands for your coats?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 месяцев назад

      You want the lath in the middle of the stucco. If it's at the bottom, it will just hold the stucco and have little strength.
      Like dobies for concrete, there is a reason they use dobies to lift the rebar. If the rebar is flat, the cement will be very weak, like using lath with no furring. Buy self-furred.

      Evening Triple070007, I believe so our staple guns hold inch and a quarter wide crown staples that are for attaching stucco netting or roofing shingles, the narrow staples have a tendency to rip the paper if you miss the wire, if it were me I would use the correct staples.

    Hello kirk, I have been in the stucco industry a little over 25 years. I have never used or seen anyone using this type of lath in Georgia. (I have repaired older jobs and found this type of lath.) I used to think people were kidding calling it chicken wire but that is what it looks like. It's always been 2.5 diamond mesh here in Ga in sheets 27 inch by 97 inch. I remember when I started it wasn't galvanized just painted. Do you know why your type of lath isn't used in my area or have a explanation of why you don't use diamond mesh. I see the advantage of the roll of wire you apply as far as time and labor is concerned. Other than that it seems like a weak link in stucco application compared to diamond mesh. Idk ? would love for you to enlighten me on this. keep up the good work. thanks

      Pulling out with a hammer will work; it's a lot of work. I would go over it with self-furred mesh netting or apply a scratch coat to allow it to cure, then apply the second coat. The worst that can happen is you will get some hairline cracking. Big deal, caulk them.😉

    He, would anyone know the best way to attach metal lath onto 1" foam board that's against a concrete wall? I don't want to add any wood strips because I don't have the space to add another inch to each wall. I was hoping there's something I can use that will hold strongly enough to the foam board itself so I wouldn't have to use more masonry fastners than needed. Any help would be appreciated. This is also for an interior space.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  4 года назад

      Evening Vanessa, what you asking about doing is not worth the time to attach stucco netting or 3.4 self furred metal lath over foam as a fastening system. Trying to use a gun or sledgehammer to attach 3.4 metal lath would be a chore to nail in one concrete nail let alone he 30 per sheet. Soooo, let look at alternatives.
      You can attach these sheets with poly Bond manufactured or engineered for exactly your purpose.
      La Habra's, Poly Bond is specifically engineered to hold foam board to concrete or cementitious surfaces.
      FYI, Poly Bond is only sold at plastering yards like Westside building materials.

      Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. kirk what do you think of whats causing Florida's billion dollar stucco problem ?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  7 лет назад +4

      Evening Bill Dude, I'm not aware of Florida's issues with stucco, however I believe that the majority of stucco or lath attached applied is completed by some highly motivated and talented guys and gals, however it's a fact that some system fail, and will continue to by simple ignorance of applicators and or contractors not watching their workers or just a general abundance of guys working by the hour who are more interested in being home drinking beer and watching T.V.
      One of the main reasons I just work with my family all three sons and both daughters is they care, and if they are not sure they don't guess, they ask.
      Don't get me wrong I feel there are many more great and talented fellas and gals out there doing the best they can, but sometime the weak link bring down a whole company.
      As crazy as it sounds there are a few workers who love this dirty, dusty and often physical work like myself.
      This winter I averaged 10 calls a day with 15 e-mails for help with water intrusion, leaking decks and walls, when I hear the message's even though we go beyond code I still think to myself, don't be one of my jobs!
      As we're not perfect either.
      It is tougher than most folks think to waterproof your work and have to explain to a different tradesman that you feel their work will affect the integrity of the entire system, but that my job sometimes.
