    Yo!! I appreciate the super clear directions and great camera angles. I've never even changed oil on a car, but you made this really easy to learn and it was easy to replicate. Saved me about 900 bucks man, thanks again!

    Just bought a 2012 Honda CR-V (127k miles) for my college-aged daughter in Texas. The AC is sluggish and blows rather slowly. I think it may need a new compressor. I am not the guy to do it, but I wish I had the skill set you have! As a former teacher and principal, I can tell you that you are a good teacher! Your explanation and sequencing of steps was terrific--much appreciated!

    • @RustBeltAuto

      It's probably not a compressor issue. You would need to check the system pressures.

    I have replaced a clutch on one of these compressors while it is still in the car. His suggestion that replacing the clutch is a total pain is very accurate. Removing and installing the clutch snap rings is extremely difficult, even with the compressor unbolted and positioned for best access. Replacing the whole compressor is the way to go unless you have a lot more time than money. The description in this video for how to remove and install the compressor and how to best access the serpentine belt tensioner matches my experience as being the best way to get the job done.

    I doubt the accumulator is welded. It looks that way, but my civic did too and it wasn’t. It pushes into that welded block and is held on by a clamp.

    Question: so I see that the clutch is working(belt is spinning) but when I tested the pressure it had nothing at all. And all I get is hot air when ac is on. You think it is the compressor?

    Do you think the compressor is bad if the AC sometimes works now most of the time not? I added refrigerant and it was still in the green pressure and worked for a few more days then stopped. I went to add more refrigerant and it was in the red pressure zone so I didn't add any. Hope that all makes sense.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  2 года назад

      You are looking at the low side pressures, with the cheesy little gauge. It's probably in "red", because the compressor is not working.

    The desiccant bag really should be changed. That is where all the trash accumulated in mine. I changed it from the bottom, no need to remove the condenser as seen in many videos. I have pictures if you are interested.

      Yes. I like to drain it out, unless there is a tag or something that tells you what oil it is. Could be pag 46, 100, Ester oil, or who knows?

    Thanks for the tip - short and skip the BS. Looks like it's working great - so no problems. Just for future reference FYI, I usually only add the refrigerant as a gas, it looks upside down as you add it as a liquid, if this is done with it running its possible it could screw up your new compressor (a liquid doesn't compress so it doesn't like trying, sounds like "pinging"), I usually just wait and add it all as a gas with it running, compressor kicks in after an ounce or 2 then it goes slow but time to get it just right...

    R134 is supposed to be ozone safe. That's the reason you don't need a license to buy it. The old R12 is not ozone safe and cost a fortune, if you can still find it. And you need a license to buy it.

    • @RustBeltAuto

      All of it is heavier than air. It actually bleeds down into the soil. How is it going to get up there in the first place? Most people that know what is going on, believes it is all just a DuPont scheme to hold patent rights.
