    Nobody released footage of Scrappy flying out of respect for Mike’s reveal, and I looked hard. You’ve got to love the aviation community, and I hope to be part of it soon. I’ve been flying a paraplane for over 20 years, but I’m far overdue for a bush plane!

      This project has built up a lot of experience and I definitely see that now there's a reference construction that can be used by others.
      Since this is a search and rescue plane I would have expected it to have some reflective surfaces in bright colors, mostly to improve it being spotted in coordinated efforts or when on the ground so that others can follow up a first response easier.

    • @robm.4512
      @robm.4512 3 года назад +1

      @@ehsnils I get what you’re saying about visibility, point well made. I do think, though, that the fact that significant areas of the aircraft are bright orange and that the lighting systems are far from lacking might go some way towards indicating that it’s already been considered.

      @@robm.4512 Bright orange is actually only working well in daylight, in the dark it won't help. Reflective surfaces means that they stand out when a search light is used. Or when you use a torch. Could be that you need to find your way back to the plane when it's dark - you might not be able to land on the spot where the rescued is but a bit away.

The suspension in my humble opinion is the most amazing part of this build as it makes so much sense for taildraggers. The fact Mike is able to do everything by himself is just mind-blowing. Thanks for this one, I've been following right along for several years now and I have to say that there is a feeling that I cannot shake. It is overwhelmingly clear to me that watching this Scrappy build has been a once in a lifetime experience. I've pulled of some stunts in my time, but that was just enough to make it clear what a monumental feat that you have accomplished with this build! FYI...My boss had a Beech Bonanza and I found a way to replace the 25 watt generator with a 45 watt alternator back around 1970. That lead to Omni, DME, solid state radios and strobe lights. I though that was a big deal until I watched you at work! Now go take care of the chick, she is a real gem!

    My deepest respect for Mike, his team family and the aviation community. It was an exceptional experience as an observer to see the development and progress since the crash of Draco. Mike's humbleness, work ethos passion and social engagement are real inspiration for my own non aviation life as professional sailor. Keep safe & enjoy your new toy. Greetings by heart from Europe/Netherlands, Cpt. JR

    If I was making a 3d printed gallery of the busts of my heroes, you, Mike, would be on it. I have waited for a Scrappy STOL performance in a way I have not waited for anything so bad ever before.

    Mike congrats on getting scrappy flying for Oshkosh what an achievement! It was truly an honor to see it in person but even more so to meet you and Chandra. Keep up the great work and inspiring us all to get in to aviation. My 5 year old daughter came home from airventure and built her first plane out of cardboard. I asked her what she was going to do next and she said “Paint it like SCRAPPY!” Thank you again for taking the time to meet all of us fans at Oshkosh and keep up the great work!

    Mike, Thank you for the opportunity to shake your hand and have my picture taken with you under the wing of Scrappy last Friday at Oshkosh. I'm a huge fan & it meant a lot to me. Your plane is an absolute jewel of engineering and craftsmanship! Are you going to get your wife's project flying next?
