I love this pedal and it's my secret to getting those raw Spaghetti Western guitar sounds from Ennio Merricones music like "Il Grande Massacaro". Get that with a ton of spring reverb with single coil or jazz master pickups, and you're golden.
That’s great info to have, thanks! I have a modified Foxx (Orange Fur Coat; it’s a Tone Machine with an octave knob and a foot switch instead of a toggle for the octave on/off) and have been learning Morricone’s western work. I never thought to put the two together.
Fuzzrite is another great fuzz pedal for period correct Morricone guitars. Don't forget to crank the reverb up for that "fuzz on the plains" spaghetti western tones
Been looking at this for a while now. Adrian Belew has been on my guitar hero list since KC did Elephant Talk. He makes his original Foxx fuzz get way out there. Great classic fuzz.
Long guitarist here, yes this sounds good on bass and for your bass fuzz shootout I highly recommend the EHX English Muff'n, which is what is currently sitting on my bass board.
The English Muff'n is a great pedal, super sleeper. Just doesn't do Big Muff tones, which I think turned people off. That and the weird power adapter which was not a good design idea for pulling AC out of the wall (two exposed pins a half inch long!)
I attached my Foxy Tone Box to my pedal board with zip ties. Works a treat. I don't find it that difficult to flip the octave switch with my foot, either. Totally worth the real estate.
As a four-string slinger, this fuzz warms my heart. Never usually a fan of octave fuzzes, but this sounds surprisingly good on the low strings. Currently using a Rat clone into a Big Muff Pi to get the raucous fuzz but the Foxy Tone Box does it in spades. One thing I have found though is I get better results with a wet/dry rig, keeping the low-end intact through a separate clean bass amp and sending the fuzzy stuff through a small valve amp. The bass amp does the heavy lifting and retains the string attack and definition, while the drive and fuzz can do its thing unrestrained.
Sounds so good! Haven’t heard that gorgeous Manta-Hawk in awhile. That seems like a guitar built for fuzz. Thanks for another fun video of a cool pedal!
I think for a few reasons it can make sense to add in a fuzz before your board. Fuzz can be touchy and fickle about what guitar you use with them. Vintage correct fuzzes may react to the playing environment. Some fuzzes just end up being massive or oddly shaped. Might be worth the time to keep the fuzz before the board and bring what works that day or to suit your mood. Literally 90 seconds of work to hook it up, if you leave a power outlet for it
I’d love you to do a bass fuzz shootout. I’d also love it if you demoed the new(ish) range of Harley Benton ministomp pedals for the Affordaboard-they have three(!) fuzzes. (If you have done them and I just missed it, apologies.)
If the octave was on a footswitch. I get that they are trying to make it vintage correct but if warm audio made this in a reasonable footprint I would love it.
I got a factory second (minor cosmetic damage) for half price on Reverb a few months ago, what an animal! Makes my Rat and Ram's Head sound tame. Flip the octave switch, and it's a new pallet of crazy. So much fun!
Tell me about it; this journey for fuzz began for me as prolly going for Mxr sub machine. Now I'm all over the place: fuzztone/3699, Keeley Loomer/Moon, Walrus Eons, Caroline Hawaiian Pizza? Too many pedals, not enough boardspace or cash lol
Hey Ryan, teach me about pickups and what to buy, what to stay away from, and how to mix and match pickups in project guitars. But keep it simple because I’m pretty dumb.
Totally down for the bass fuzz video! Maybe make a video putting together a bass board? Demo a bunch of pedals/effects, see what you like the sound of, etc..
Try the Prescription Electronics Experience Octave Swell Fuzz. It's a Foxx Tone Machine with a few more features and it is killer. I built a clone and it's so worth it
So I have one of these, it’s so fucking cool, but I really wish the octave was foot-switchable. How difficult would that be to mod for someone with little-to-no electronics experience?
I came across this pedal one time and almost bought it even though I don't really use fuzz when I put it on the octave setting I really had that Jimi Hendrix tone it was really nice and very hard to walk away from by the way I love the longhorn Bass I remember when the longhorn series came out I'm still drooling looking at that base and by the way yeah it sounds good if you're doing a Motorhead sound
OMG. 😂 u weren’t lying its actually FUZZY 😂😂😂 and I just LOVE ITTTTTTR when you use the crazy lowrider candy glitter JagStang !!! And the way you chuckle hahahahaha u are a RIOT dude! 😂 🎸 🔊 🏆🤘🏻
I bought one the day it came out and I’ve gotta say - I’m not impressed. Looks great, has like one usable sound. So many better fuzzes out there. I’m sure you could dial it in but I have lots of fuzz pedals - this one is my least favorite.
As a bassist that dabbles in guitar I would love for bass specific effect samples on occasion. That fox tone machine on bass produced some gnarly pressure. Afford-a-board bass edition please.
I just want to add from what I said below concerning bass tones when you do a recording if you use that nice sweet bass tone that you love that has no Distortion in it it probably will get lost in the mix Rick beato played some Getty Lee and it was separate from the mix and I was shocked how much Distortion was in the base when I heard it solo but you really have to have some gain or overdrive in there to hear the bass better it creates harmonics and overtones
This is my issue with this and a few other fuzzes. The placement of the power jack is awkward for my board. Like wtf just put it in the middle. Its like cell chargers a decade ago

All I can say is that pedal sounds sick it's the nastiest pedal I've heard and it sounds extra nasty on the bass I like it. and you should do one with all the fuzzes on base that would be interesting
Tbh this sounds like Mashing Punkins Siamese Dream Vibes amirite? Its what I always thought rock and metal should sound like well…….. lol my “younger self thought this” now that Im probably same age as u….. I feel the same and I get this Fuzz is very good at what its doing. #CrushingtheFUZZ

Totally!
It makes me cum!
@@michaelpacinus242 well, now!

underrated player and song, elephant talk is one of my favorite KC songs
I love watching Belew play. Just seems like a super cool and fun person, too.

Props for using bass at the end. Foxx Tone Machines and their descendants absolutely COOK for bass \m/
I dig how you went right to "I wanna be your dog"!
Thanks for using bass in the demo, it sounds rad!
This pedal works great with bass. We use it on bass in a 3 piece band when the song calls for it and it really sits well in the mix
I attached my Foxy Tone Box to my pedal board with zip ties. Works a treat. I don't find it that difficult to flip the octave switch with my foot, either. Totally worth the real estate.

Try the Danelectro French Toast, same circuit as the Foxx Tone machine with a smaller foot print...

That really sounds great. Try running it in stereo with a Cuvave fuzz into the second amp....
Check out Joyo's Voodoo Octave fuzz, I *heard* it's a clone of this circuit and very affordable! 👀
Sounds like it is
Hi. Is this pedal similar to the original Foxx Tone machine Fuzz? Thanks
Love the rendition of cars with the pedal. Sold me on it. Not quite a synth but adjacent. Love the lower gain sounds. Its just got so much fuzz.
This was the best demo ever of the Foxy! Sounded great!
I've got to have it I mean out of all the first petals you've done that one is very versatile and really heavy
This is one of the classic tone machines from classic rock records in the late 60s
I’d love you to do a bass fuzz shootout.

Your cabinet miking sounds great, it really conveys the bass thump. And that's just me listening on headphones.
That face you made at 3:50 says it all. I have to try one of these.
Another great video.
Thanks Ryan
I just love how it has the capability to distort the audio beyond recognition
should i get this or the fuzz3699.. damn first world questions.
Yes, a little late, but I liked the vintage fuzz collection idea/video. It sounds amazing, what a pedal.
P4M and inspector gadget definitely spoke to our generation, sir. Great video, and Warm, take my dang money already!
Love that Link Wray tune Rumble with this Foxy Fuzz Tone effect!!!
@22:21 is when I knew I had to have it. Thanks Ryan.
put painters tape on the bottom of the pedal prior to putting on velcro.
You always have so much fun.
Excellent demo!! N through a "clean" amp!! ❤❤❤❤
Sounds like the fuzz from the song
“Hold Tight!”
I have a FOXX FUZZ&WA&VOLUME pedal from way back that needs some pot cleaning but works other than that. It is red and fuzzy. Sounds just like this.
Hey Ryan, teach me about pickups and what to buy, what to stay away from, and how to mix and match pickups in project guitars. But keep it simple because I’m pretty dumb.
Try it with a low battery or a power supply with the voltage turned down.
Ohhh that sounds fun.
Totally down for the bass fuzz video! Maybe make a video putting together a bass board? Demo a bunch of pedals/effects, see what you like the sound of, etc..
Check out the Danelectro French Toast. It’s a clone made by the original creator of the Foxx Tone machine.
So is the Danelectro 3699 fuzz. I have one and it sounds awesome.
@@craigbragg2842 nice! I wasn’t aware of the 3699. I just love that the French Toast is $40 for the exact same circuit.
@@proletar-ian, yeah, definitely a bit more expensive than the French Toast. Not sure if the two circuits are identical or not.
Pretty interesting for sure! I enjoyed hearing "Cars" on it XD
That full sustain with the tone rolled back a bit is the fuzz sound I've been looking for
Also that bass tone is nothing short of gnarly. I need this pedal and you have sold me on it
You missed the opportunity to play some Unknown Mortal Orchestra with that Jagstang and Fox Tone combo!
This pedal is great. The Danelectro 3699 is the same but has a mid boost switch. So a few more tones.
I had this pedal and got rid of it a few months later, if I had it to do over again I'd probably get its dano rival instead
If the silicone FF and the Superfuzz had a baby it would sound like this.
The mothership cometh... Summoned by bass

Me: Mom, can I buy an electric sitar?
Mom: We already have an electric sitar at home
Electric sitar at home: 13:26
Maybe a shootout between this and the Danelectro 3699 Fuzz might be in order.
I figure a Keeley Fuzz Bender belongs on the top of it. Why not?
$149+ It sounds excellent. For the same money I'd go with the Keeley.
Which Keeley are you referring to?
@@dominicmcmahon4798 The Keeley Fuzz Bender. $126.65 @ Sweetwater rn

Yes to the bass fuzz video!
So many comments missing the entire point of this. Yes, we’re all aware smaller pedals exist, thank you.
Why is the bottom flocked? Mine has a black metal bottom.

Please demo every pedal on a bass with a pick!!! That’s how I play, and it’s hard to find well made reviews for dumb punks!
Bass fuzz shoot-out would be awesome!
With the bass it could do some nice Jack Cassidy (Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna) tones.

I’d take affordaboard bass episodes
Carol Kaye used a pick on her bass, so don't worry about it
Thomann has a 70th year anniversary version of this that's cheaper than the regular and nice purple color
I just got this one for $55 used but I want the purple one more. I’ll just get both and one will go on my bass board.

Sounds like Fender Blender. A must have for bass.
Damn Ryan, I already have too many fuzz pedals… but I guess I just got another one.
yeah, Elastica! 🤘
I've been wanting to get one of these for awhile. A Fuzzy Fuzz. LOL
This is cool but do you have to take a loan out to get it
It’s like $150 on sweetwater. That’s on the low side of normal pedal pricing these days.
immediately starts playing stooges 🤘🏻🔥
use zip ties not velcro maybe

Is it the purple one?
And if so do you still have it? What did you want?
Bring on the bass fuzz destuction.
