    Potatoes don't really act as a power source, but in the first place they just go in a way that carries electricity by passing an electron current between two metal pillars. Of course not recommended, but if you really want to experiment with potatoes, you can charge electronics using a quarter of a potato boiled for approximatly 5-10 minutes.

  • @josephjefferson2617
    @josephjefferson2617 3 года назад +137

    Okay, you must have two different electrodes for this to work. Unless you placed a different type of metal on one the prongs of your adapter, nothing will happen. You will also need more potatoes connected in a wired or jumpered series-circuit configuration to power and charge the cell phone. In each potato with the two different types of metal, (example: Zinc nail and copper penny placed inside of the potato) the electrodes, with a voltmeter, will measure anywhere form .5v to .8v for a single russet potato. Carefully examine the output voltage of your actual plug-in adapter. This will allow you to understand how many potatoes you will need in series to power up and charge the cell phone. joe.

      @@davenolan16 It's the truth. potatoes aren't just magical natural batteries on their own, the current they generate in the classic potato battery experiment is a result of a chemical reaction between the acid and potassium inside the potato to the zinc in a galvanized nail. You'd need to put a copper conductor on the other side, wire in series and then run a wire from the potato battery to the prongs of the charger for this to work

    Even though a potato can be used as a battery it's only a DC battery it cannot create an alternate current because therefore would need to be coiled current along with a transistor to mimic the frequency of oscillation and if it was truly going to impress your phone will be turned all the way off and then connect the power cord because then it would automatically sense the voltage being given to it

    That usb Walwart takes 119vac and converts to 5vdc. The potatoe produces a voltage about .1 to .9 with two different electrodes, but usually lower voltage than that. The get 6 to 10 potatoes with two different electrodes in each potato and connect in series. Cut the charger cord at the Walwart, and attach it to the potato battery. Plug the other end to the phone.

    YOU NEED ELECTRODES to actually make a chemical power supply. The potato contains electrolytes, which allow electricity to flow through (like lemons), but in order for there to be a voltage difference, you need materials that have differently charged ions (I think--been a while since I took chem). But even if you did manage to make a potato battery with say zinc and copper, it would be a DC power supply. Your wall socket takes in AC power. And a single potato could not supply enough wattage anyway.

      sand down a penny both sides ,the center is zinc the outside is copper there's your connections ,apple ,potato for electrolyte ,or just you holding the contacts =output ,
      I think is .3 volts. I tried connecting 3 potatoes once ,but the volt average remained the same. That being said ,is it possible to increase the voltage in parallel ,if so ,could five campers start a fire with an aluminum foil gum wrapper?

    Holy smokes! this is actually real. This potato is 5 measured in voltage, an average IPhone charger is about the same.
    An alkaline battery is 1 VOLT. Omg your potato is majestic, With the power of 5 potatoes, you can power a door bell.
    Imagine a house ran on potato energy

    I would be seriously worried if you got enough voltage out of a potato to power that charger unit
