I hope the mining update is able to change this. lots of new blocks and resources have been revealed to be added to mines and these have not yet been revealed to be findable in chests.
Besides the cooler cave generation, I personally don't think it'll change too much. Having a big supply of diamonds/netherite will always be useless because of Mending. Emeralds, Iron, Coal, and technically Redstone can all be automated pretty easily. Copper is cool and the amethyst caves are nice but I don't think those 2 things alone will carry the underground. They should have added more ores or generated structures. Or a new layer completely where bedrock is.
I find exploring the world and looting just way more fun than mining for hours. It may be more unpredictable, but it's more interesting to me, seeing cool world generations, finding the rarer biomes, and not knowing exactly what you'll find
I think you're definitely right about the beginning of the game, but as you progress it just becomes more practical to mine rather than to trek thousands of blocks to hopefully find what you want in a treasure chest. But I have found that at the beginning of the game I often get most of my rarer resources from looting.
In the late game, I find villager trading to be most effective if tools and armor is your end goal. Why mine for diamond to make unenchanted items when you can take the products of an automated farm to trade with villagers and get enchanted equipment much faster?
Ofc in endgame you dont need to mine or something because you can have farms for everything but If you Just started a world, Mining is better, because you dont have a good way to travel (elytra) and you dont have much/good food for Long distances over ground
But considering how common they are this can quickly add up. I did a nomad playthrough on a random seed and did no mining or farming and I had half diamond when I killed the ender dragon. Fully enchanted with low tier enchantments but still. Just wandering I beat the game in about 4 real time hours.
This is an issue I started to notice with the release of 1.13, and exactly the issue I want the cave update and the next couple updates to tackle. I'm glad people like you and SimplySarc are starting to wake up the rest of the Minecraft community to this problem. Gold and emeralds are fine treasure items IMO, but if it's so easy to find iron and diamonds, then why even mine? Doesn't make sense in a game called MINEcraft. I enjoy tunneling and building mines, so I'd like to see a return to that.
I think fortune 3 pickaxes are better to mine diamonds for. If your lucky and get ores higher than avg with some fortune 3, you can have a stack within minutes
I wouldn’t say that mining is now obsolete, considering that many of the listed structures are rare and quite difficult to find, not mentioning the fact that you are not guaranteed great loot. I still believe that mining is a much more efficient option. Even if finding valuables is a bit slower, you are stocking up on building blocks for later projects.
I love going in caves and strip mining. All I wanna do is find the biggest and craziest caves, mining every bit of iron and coal I find even if I don’t want it
The name has it Mine craft Mine and craft Mining and crafting To mine and to craft Together mining and together crafting I hate the adventure update 1.6 was the best time of minecraft
Your test back up the fact that if your going for resources mining is the way to go. On your 15 minute test you only got 18 gold whereas mining got a lot more. It doesn’t help that you could get a lot more gold just from mining in the nether. Also the 5 minute test proves the same. What I’m wondering is why did you put lapis as lapis ore? When you mine it you get a cluster of lapis. Also even if mining is becoming obsolete there’s a cave update on the way anyways so most of your problems with mining will probably vanish
When you have a buried treasure map, press f3+g to activate the chunk view. Roughly find the chunk your buried treasure is in. Buried treasures are always at ( 9 | x | 9 ) in the "chunk coordinstes" when you press f3. Shouldve added that since searching for buried treasures is wasted time due to that. You dont even need the f3+g part if youve done it a couple of times and can always find the block instantly that the treasure is under (which is always gravel or sand)
I think the over-world non-mining methods are for when u really wanna go off and explore the world away from your home/base. If u really go hard on the exploration, you would need to either bring more minerals with you, or go on a mining mission which would slow down the exploration. But with these methods, u can explore and maintain items more fluidly. You pretty much have to explore to find the stuff, like finding villages or pyramids, or going on a treasure hunt. Personally I love exploring by myself. I don’t enjoy mining as much unless im with friends.
Mining is still the best tho cuz u have to find all of these things and it really is not consistent and even in the first test you can see it is better. I’m not hating tho cuz u r right at some point it will h obselete just not yet in my opinion
I don’t think obsolete is the right word. Like yeah chests from structures are good for certain items like saddles but mining can be done anywhere, anytime and it’s pretty consistent. Finding structures to get items mostly relies on getting a good seed and requires a decent amount of time just looking for structures. A better title would be “ways to get items other than mining” or something along those lines. The only way I could see mining becoming obsolete is if farming minerals with some big ass redstone contraption becomes possible which has already happened to other things in the game such as farming manually or getting EXP
I dont think mining is ever gonna be obsolete, especially when you consider enchants, like fortune 3, being able to literally double or triple your diamonds. It will always be the fastest way.
Villager also trade things like diamond pickaxes, armour and weapons, which is far easier to get then finding them by mining, even tho it has a nice touch to it
Mining is obsolete after your first 5 diamonds, as you get a enchanting table. The only stuff you need after that is villagers. Boom, full prot 4 mending diamond armor in a matter of seconds and you can reliably stockpile. This method isn't for everyone but villagers are just so overpowered
In the endgame I think haste mining with efficiency is probably better and I like it. Also I only ever play Minecraft on the realm I have with my friends and we have a diamond based economy so that makes mining still pretty useful.
The only useful mining nowadays is in the Nether, searching for Ancient Debris. Overworld mining has been obsolete ever since villagers could trade you enchanted diamond equipment.
I disagree. The most efficient way to find an specific ore is mining. Yea, shipwrecks can give you a lot of iron, but isnt easy to find one, by the time u found one, you can have double or triple iron in a cave. Same thing for gold, the best way is mining it but in the nether. The only thing that is not worth mining it is emeralds and diamonds (u can have full diamond armor + tools with villagers in 2 hours or less). But i hope mojang change that with the new cave update, mining is an important part of the game :)
Well its gotta evolve probably mojang will have a future update that will make the game better and ofc players will complain whereas minecraft is a game that can be personalize so players can do what they want
This is wrong. Structures can replace mining briefly in the early game, however the fastest way to get diamonds and ores at lategame is to use a haste 2 beacon and a netherite pickaxe at y 11. Mining like this is not going to become obsolete anytime soon
In my opinion mining is still better cause these structures are not as easy to find as caves, also you don't even have to to search for a cave you can dig to find one. You should have included farms because farms such as iron farms, gold farms and cobble stone farms are a lot better mining dependeding on its efficiency. Great video still 🙂🙂
This whole thing is cap tho There is a reason why when ur playing a normal run of Minecraft u don’t just speed around the place looking for chest You build ur place and u mine Ur not going to just run around the world the entire time to get some flipping coal or iron or gold

For diamonds just build a flying machine/world eater with a tnt duper and make a perimeter

I would say mining is more consistent but traveling and raiding structures is faster and cooler
