Thanks for sharing. Have driven many times to Switzerland past 20 years to visit family. Like you, first experience in an EV bit of a learning experience. I’d recommend Tesla Eurotunnel then Tesla Reims Champfleury next time. Safe travels
We have now travelled through Europe 4 years in a row in our Tesla. This year we went down to the Italian lakes. We only used a Tesla charger once this year during the 2500 trip. There are so many charges in Europe now at service stations, we just top up at any charger when we feel like stopping to stretch our legs and use the loo.
@mattycrane1 We found that practically all Aires in France now have super rapid chargers. The Tesla would naturally route for supercharging stops but we found we would often stop for a toilet break before our charger stop. I would plug in to the available chargers and would add around 100mile in 10mins before moving on, so the car would re route. Using our electric juice card ( octopus energy) the rate was very cheap too. Charging in Europe is incredibly easy and plentiful now. Cheaper than the UK too.
I enjoyed the video too. It would appear your average speed was below legal speed limits based on the times shown, apologies if I’m wrong though, and I guess there were two free charges whilst at your parents to add to the total cost of charging, even so that’s not much to pay for the miles covered especially compared to my 3 gallons of Diesel per 100 miles or about 1/4 of what I would have paid for the same mileage.
Great video! Did you have any nervous moments with range estimates or the car rerouting to closer super chargers? We drove Midlands to the Alps in Jan and planning on doing the same again next year. What kind of speed were you going at on the 130kmph roads?
Thanks for the comment. Only slight moment was the Senlis (north of Paris) to Eurotunnel leg where we were estimated to arrive with low SoC (around 4%). But there were plenty of non Tesla chargers enroute so I wasn't too concerned and we arrived with plenty of charge anyway. I was mostly doing around 70mph on the 130kmph roads in France - slower on the steep uphill sections. In the UK I stick to 65mph - means I can just chill in the slow lane and not have to disengage autopilot too often for overtaking. We were lucky with weather which was 20C-30C most of the way and so really good for efficiency. I'd imagine that would be quite a different story in Jan with colder temperatures.
Don’t know the exact model of 3 but it looks like your never pushing the range. Glasgow to Duxford via York two charge stops 20 mins and 8 mins. Toilet breaks, food breaks, stretching legs. Door to Door 420 miles and rally could be done on one charge. A hotel having a free charge point a bonus.. it boils down to no extra effort and a price difference of £112 petrol to £9.98 EV. And yes you get the “but but the EV cost so much more” forgetting any Car is dear these days. Contactless payment is so much better than silly card or app membership. The Range on these things are going to increase probably another 30% within a year or two and then who knows. Do we need 500 mile real word Cars probably not but they seem to be aiming for that. So you park and leave the car and take a train. Looks a stunning place to visit.
Personally I don't like pushing the range. I stop more for comfort breaks to make the journey nicer. He also does say in the video they made a few extra unnecessary stops.
Please record how long it takes to drive off the autoroutes to the superchargers and back and show that as a separate time to how long was spent charging. Then add the totals for to-charge-from and show that as how much longer it takes to drive the same journey in a Tesla than an ice car. Thanks :)
Surely thats an easy calculation? Full journey took x, cherhing time of y, it should have taken z, the differences are the plugin/plugout time. But also...hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I enjoyed watching this! Thanks for posting

Enjoyed the video, we planning to drive to Switzerland next year in our 2019 Tesla model 3 performance from Dorset 👍
Good luck it’s a very hassle free experience I have driven to Switzerland in an EV three times now.
Great video👍
Great video, full car Tesla did well.

Hi, can i ask why you didn't use Tesla chargers? Isn't the Tesla chargers a lot cheaper than others?

That electric bill not too bad at all!!

@@colinwiseman plus the ten minutes each way to and from the charger because they’re mostly in a hotel or supermarket car park.
