Recurve Bow Hunting - Public Land Bowhunting from the GROUND!

  • For those of us who live the bow hunting lifestyle, hunting season never truly ends. We devise ways to spread those sacred months across an entire year. Some hunters scout obsessively, pouring over aerial imagery and trail camera photos. Others fiddle with hunting gear, tuning, honing and sighting. I build selfbows.
I’m not entirely sure why bow building and hunting with recurves and longbows is so captivating for me. It’s certainly not the most efficient weapon. But if there is one universal truth about achievement it’s that it requires an obstacle. The quest for a true giant whitetail buck is mine.
This week we’re bowhunting from the ground in Idaho’s rugged public land backcountry. Longbow hunting is tough. Spot and stalk hunting is tough. Wise old big bucks are tough. Put all that together and you’ve got a challenge for the most seasoned woodsman!

Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, traditional bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

I was in tears at the ending!!! Just a mix of emotions! Sympathizing with the struggles on BOTH ends! Can you imagine a mountain lion patiently stalking to feed her babies? The failures are numerous. I will always pray for the hunter’s success but I’ll still tip my hat to the quarry.

Thank you for bringing us along on this trip. Hunting with traditional gear is a challenge to say the least. Capturing it on film for us at home makes it even more challenging. Great video, I appreciate the time and effort Clay. You have A fantastic attitude towards finding reward in the pursuit as much as the harvest , but I know the sting of a failed stock or missed shot as well. You handled it like a true ambassador to our life style of being a hunter .

Clay, you have created a masterpiece! This is one of the absolute best things I've ever seen on RUclips. The production quality, the editing, the content, the soundtrack...just fantastic! None of us have any idea the quantity of sheer work and effort this 21 min video required. THANK YOU for taking me along on that hunt. It was so fun, and I was rooting hard for you, but nonetheless you did NOT fail! The knowledge and experience you gained from that hunt will be an important part of your imminent success. I hunt much like you, but in the eastern woods, and with a compound bow. On that note, I've decided the compound is a very poor choice for this kind of hunting. I would love some input on how to go traditional. Great job!

Just last October, I was there with my recurve and just as I was ready to pull the bow back, I could feel the wind hit the back of my neck and, well, you know the rest of the story. I feel your pain and it really makes me want to go back. Great hunt.

After watching your videos and a few others, I have made colorado over the counter elk hunt added to my list for 2021. I figure it will give me some time to get in better shape and get in some more shooting time for the trip. I am still planning on making my own bow for the trip, I plan to start making one right after this season is over here in my state. I also appreciate you showing us the misses and letting us know what happened, I would have never thought about trying to shoot like that, so thank you. Thanks for your videos being made so real. You rock sir. I love the fact you are not wearing 1500 dollars worth of camo clothing the average guy cant afford with out going to the bank to take out a loan, sheesh, half the reason I want to make a bow, I think I can afford to do that.
