TRIP REPORT: 24 Hours in Gibraltar post-lockdown!

- Опубликовано: 20 сен 2020
- This is a video documenting my time exploring the wonderful British Overseas Territory or Gibraltar. This is a whistle-stop tour of the main sights that I managed to visit during my 24 hours on the peninsula. I travelled post-lockdown, so the place was relatively empty which was fantastic.
Gibraltar is a idyllic place to visit; with bag loads of history, atmosphere and natural beauty. You can reach Gibraltar by air from regional UK airports or from Morocco, or by car via Spain.
Featured in this video:
- Flight from London Gatwick to Gibraltar International Airport
- Holiday Inn Express Gibraltar
- Gibraltar Cablecar
- Top of the Rock
- St. Michael's Cave
- World War II Tunnels tour
- Gibraltar Old Town
- Ocean Village visit
- Footage of easyJet and British Airways arrivals and departures from Gibraltar International Airport
- Flight from Gibraltar to London Gatwick.
Date of travel: August 2020.

I first visited Gib in 1964, 3 x times in 1967 while working in the merchant navy and once in 2016. It an absolutely fascinating place and I hope to return again someday soon. Thank you for a most enjoyable tour of the fantastic "Rock". P. Edwards
Beautiful video and Gibraltar. Love it. Thank you. 😅😍🛬🛫👍
Great footage mate 👌I am so proud of my home and it's nice to see some positive comments from yourself rather than a lot of negative ones I've read in the past. Yes we are not perfect, no one is, but you are most very welcome to come back again. Thank you for your great video.
Edwin Thompson Gibraltar country is very beautiful country of the world
I have been flying to/from GIB on and off since the mid 1970's. Landings in heavy winds can be a scary and I would imagine there is a higher than average probability that the flight may be diverted, but on the basis that to date no accidents have occurred, it would be hard to say that the airport was dangerous.
Until about 15 years ago, the Spanish authorities would not permit a GIB bound aircraft to divert directly to Malaga (AGP) or any other Spanish airport for that matter. The aircraft was required to divert to Morocco (Usually Tangier TNG) then file a new flight plan for a flight from TNG to AGP from where the passengers were taken by bus to GIB.
Of course, prior to 1983 when the frontier between Spain and Gibraltar was re-opened, in the event of such a diversion the passengers would have to remain in Morocco until they could be transferred to GIB by air or ship directly (ie not via Spain) due to the frontier being completely closed. Have experienced a TNG then on to AGP diversion in the early 2000's after a frightening double attempt to land in heavy winds, but not a pre-1983 diversion. Would be interesting to hear from anybody who had what happened exactly.
This video portrays the contrasting climates of the UK and Gibraltar perfectly; grey and rainy taking off from Gatwick, beautiful blue skies and sunshine greets you in Gibraltar, immediately back to grey and rainy on the return to Gatwick, haha.
Proud to call this my home.
True, thousands of “people” lived and worked inside the Rock’s tunnels during WWII; they were largely British troops. The civilian population of the Rock had been evacuated (to UK and other places) for the duration of the War. Your report, short as your visit was, is generally a very good one, and accurate. Your 5 tips for visiting Gib are useful and sensible. Come again, and spend a week or two! We’ll be nice to you.
Thanks Dorothy! I will be back next summer, and definitely for longer than just 24 hours next time!
Hola
Stunning video. It's definitely on my bucket list 😊
Thanks for sharing fascinating place Gibraltar, enjoyed watching. 👍
Thanks chap, I enjoyed this. Lived at North Front three years in the mid-80s during military service. Revisited as a civvy in 2008. So much has changed physically, but the important things remain the same. A proud, passionate and friendly people, a real mix of cultures. Gibraltar could teach the World a thing or too about 'race' relations. Fine memories Gibraltar, I really must revisit soon.
Welcome to gibraltar .Gib is a unique place i love living here since very simple life and amazing people

Had many visits to Gib or the Rock as it is also known, am going again in a couple of weeks can`t wait.
Have a great time! I just came back from my second trip there last week!
Nicely documented! I'll be going there in 2 days, and staying for 4 days...hopefully enough!
Thank you! Have a great time, I just come back from a 3 night trip there last week!
Hi, I’m planning to go there in the next days. How was it? Did you enjoy it? Is it worth it? 😻
@@lostin_1037 Was fun. 4 or 5 days is enough though
Thanks for visiting Gibraltar 🇬🇮
Always great to be there. Looking forward to be back there in a few days!
Great video Robbie. Some useful tips for when we go next month. The hotel looks nice to.
Amazing short trip with some sense and use ...Thanks bro
Greetings from Gibraltar. It really is a special and wonderful place, great beaches, wild dolphins accessible for a £20 boat ride, the apes and ofcourse its history. Glad you enjoyed your time here.
Thanks for watching! It really is - I had heard so many good things about Gibraltar and had to come and see it for myself. Next time I visit I'll make sure I have enough time to see more and take a boat ride!
After revisiting Gibraltar last week I went out on a dolphin boat trip and it was great - thanks for the suggestion!
Hello Robert, excellent coverage of the upper rock nature reserve. St. Michaels cave is amazing to visit, I remember the first time I went there Frühlingsstimmen by Strauss was playing with the lights, it was incredible.
Excellent footage Robbie!
It’s like going to a shop to buy a milk and back in a minute 😊 but it’s a lovely short video 👍
I enjoyed every bit of this video. Great job! 👊👍👌

Great trip report! 🇬🇮
That was brilliant
Nice work Robbie.
I was worried about landing and taking off from Gibraltar when I went in November last year, but both landing and take off was fine. I can't wait to go back.
Hola
Robbie thank you for a awesome video just found your channel, I have been looking for a channel that gives so much information about day trips around Europe time to binge watch more😂
Thank you so much! Day trips out to Europe and back are my specialty (they're so much fun!), so hopefully there'll be more trip reports for you to watch once travel resumes haha
Really enjoyed your video, very informative.
Gibraltarian here, great footage I hope you enjoyed your stay here! :D

Hola
Hello from Gibraltar, do come back soon. I'd advise you try and book a tour of lower st michaels cave, but I'm not sure how. You may need to do it in advance before even arriving
Since I recorded this video in 2020 I’ve been back to visit Gibraltar twice! Just couldn’t stay away. That would be an interesting tour if it’s available, I will look out next time!
Great vlog super
great video and greetings from Gibraltar!
Thank you so much, and thanks for watching!
super👍
Nice work bud, like your style of no talking and no background music as it can distract attention from the stunning landscapes. Keep it up.
Thanks! I wanted to step away from what most travel vlogs do - making the video about themselves rather than where they are. I'm glad that you enjoyed, I appreciate your comment.
Nice... Used to like there 5 years and left just 2 years ago the nestalgia steps in
Why did you leave
I worked with a friend who was born here. He said he usually flew in through Malaga.
Rather enjoyed watching that.
Hello there I really love your channel.
It has loads of great videos.
You have given me a few new ideas for new videos on my channel.
Much RUclips love from THE TRUE UK Traveller.
Nice travel video! Have you discovered what good food to eat or a restaurant to try out there?
Great video. Many thanks. Should have been there last week but the pandemic put a stop to that.
Thank you so much for watching! That's a shame - Hopefully you have your trip to Gibraltar rebooked for something to look forward to post-pandemic.
Hi Robbie , Loved your video on Gibraltar it looks wonderful , was thinking of going and booking the Holiday inn hotel , is the hotel near everything ? Thanks David
Thank you so much!
The Holiday Inn is about 15 minute walk to the main square in the town (Casemates Square) or the airport, so I think it’s well-located but far enough away to be quiet. There is a bus stop outside which can take you into the town, or down the east coast towards Sandy Bay. If you do make it there - enjoy! 🇬🇮
@@travellingwithrobbie Thanks Robbie for all your advice much appreciated 👍
Gréât feature. What month was this?
Malaga’s a lovely city. I’d rather land there ☺️
I’m heading to Malaga very soon and looking forward to exploring there too! ☺️
fun fact the terminal isn't finished there are lots of signs covered and corridors to nothing as Spain was planning to build a second section and then it was indefinitely postponed
Great video. Thank you :)
too quick to change point of veww
Travelling with Robbie. Thanks. So glad I cancelled but forfeited my money to Easy Jet.Flight looked hair raising!Think I’ll go by train 2021.Weather is so much warmer than flu Blighty!Been before!Public Housing so limited??Services only?Roll on 2021.Thanks.Mac.
Is there any good places to go out and drink
Hey Robbie did u did anything else part from the passenger locator form do they require a negative COVID test
Hi Aisha, at the time of travel no negative COVID test was required when travelling from the UK. I just had to print off a copy of their passenger locater form and hand it in when I arrived. However, I think this slightly changed on 22nd September and there is now an online form where you receive a barcode - check out the latest entry requirements on the UK Foreign Office Website here: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/gibraltar/entry-requirements :)
Landed there last week, and goodness me. The landing was very bumpy. Someone left their overhead locker open and one end snapped on landing.
Oh wow. Yeah I've heard that it's not a great place to land during the winter!
Love Gib been a few time's , hard to get flight from Birmingham UK !!!.
There is going to be flights from Birmingham starting very soon
All that way, and had burger and chips 🤣🤣🤦♂️
Haha! I was back in Gibraltar last week and I can confirm that I ate better this time!
Given that tricky landing, I guess it’s handy to fly on an aircraft called Jesus!
The hotel you lived is next to airport. Is it very noisy?
Not really - there's only like 3 flights a day which are never late at night!
Czukcza na Gibraltarze???
Is there any nightclubs open ?
I travelled back in mid-August and I don't think the night clubs were open, nor the casino. There were pubs and bars open though around Ocean Village though.
i live in gibraltar
A monkey or what ever they have on the rock attacked me when I did the med steps bc of my inhaler bc I collapsed
I'd like to go in the summer if it's open
I believe they will be announcing something about this very soon. Check out @visitgibraltar on Instagram/Twitter.
I'm going to Gibraltar next Sunday for a week by EasyJet EZY8901.
expensive and pollution for such a short time.
no other airport in Gibraltar to divert to,in such case you are forced to land at an airport in the despised Spain
so fast subtitles immposible for reading
Expensive ride £30 one way ? It’s a ride to the sky? 😂
Built a holy🕎🕉✡temple in Gib.
Great vid of my homeland 👍
