Just finished it. Worth the money and glad they did it! I miss some mechanics like the behaviors and using a clover when you inadvertedly fall but otherwise a remake with a lot of heart. Adding Twinsen's sister makes sense as the story progresses and Zoe is given a nice meaningful role too. Thanks for the video!
This remake has its pros and cons. Some locations look beautiful, but other locations lose their charm and atmosphere due to the new art style, e.g. the underground temple. That's why as a fan of LBA I prefer to have the original and the remake at the same time. The remake is not bad and has its charm, but the original is still irreplaceable.
I don't think replacing it is the point. It's more to introduce new fans to the franchise. Which in itself is not a bad move. I mean, if it already brings people into playing the original, that's a win in my book.
Yeah, i felt the same thing. This art style kind of loses some details and lights that were present in the cutscenes of the original, in the 90s. And the music, even done by the same person, sounds kind of like background noise sometimes, compared to the atmosphere and feeling that stuck into your veins originally. I don't know; it's a little less immersive, for me.
They're not seeing a dime from me. I'm going to watch this full no matter how much it hurts, but ideology is so strong in this one that they screwed up a simple story that worked. In 10 minutes they weren't able to establish the setting not even naming the planet Twinsun. Twinsen no longer has a connection to or visions Sendell (is Sendell even in the game?). Feminism mandates he has to be made into a buffoon that has to be told by a literal infant with more spunk than him that Funfrock is evil because he thinks he's good, and is talked over by Zoe and sidelined as he can't handle his little sister... makes me want to puke. They managed to make a game worse 30 years later!
You're spouting gibberish, my dude. The game is almost identical to the original and the slight plot changes don't detract from it one bit. And yes, Sendell is there. And Twinsen has a connection to her/it.
Girl sounds and acts like a brat, colors are messed up, he runs too slow, no mystery or any likeable characters at all, Twinsens face looks awful, the music is awful… this is lame.
To be honest, i liked the game, but was a little dissapointed with it. For one side, it modernized the controls, the graphics and maps, which was good and necessay. For the other hand, the gameplay and the overall game kinda feels more like a remaster than a remake. There are some things, like the animations, that seem exactly the same as in the 90s. It doesn't necessarily feel like a 2024 version of the game. I know it's probably NOT a game with a lot of budget, but i felt it lacked ambition. I take the elements of the original games; the characters; the story; the world; and even the mechanics... and i think this game could have been a lot more. For ex: I imagine flying the dino-fly myself, instead of it just being an unskippable cutscene. A good representation of all this i think it's the main menu. You listen to the music and you look at a static image of a boat in the ocean. And i wish so much that this image moves! To see the water and the boat moving, and even Twinsen maybe walking on it.
Thank you for the video this remake is a disappointment, it took me 7 hours to put it down and just aim to emulate the ps1 version at some point with retroachievements etc...
Stuck at the costume store, dont know why. (talked to the rebel wanting the costume, but lady doesnt want to offer costume). Rather frustrating. Any thoughts?
Not a game i ever expected to see modernized, pretty sure the first time i played it was on a game demo disk from like PC gamer or something. The game disks with Coconut Monkey on them lol

@@flobo09 Ha! I'm stupid. I thought that writing out meant to cut a part out of a story. I think I was thinking off a "write-off" which means to eliminate an expense. Somewhat similar, but hardly applicable.

It's absolutely dreadful isn't it. Same with me, first played it as a 3 year old in 1994 and still play it regularly to this day, but this is appalling
@joeleary3014 Terrible. I hope 2.21 crash and burn with this game and sell the ip to someone more competent. I dreamed for years about an lba3, but for the love of God not like this.
Clearly I'm in the minority in this thread... I enjoyed the remake, despite its flaws. And the original, which has always been one of my all time favourite games, now looks and sounds (i.e. the quiet voice acting in the '94 game not always being audible over the volume of the music) poor in comparison. The remake is far from perfect, but if I had played it BEFORE I played the original, I would be unimpressed with the nineties version. I like the new additions and don't feel they detract from the game at all. In its current form, it is very buggy, but hopefully these will be ironed out by the devs in future updates. Yes, I know, TLDR 😅
I only knew about this series from OneyPlays, I thought it looked kinda cool and found out there was a remake. Played the demo, then removed the game from my wishlist. I can't make any direct comparisons but nothing about it sat well with me. I actually found myself already bored of it by the end of the short demo, and seemed to lack the charm of the original. It didn't help that the demo starts you off in the prison, right off the bat you're wrestling with the "stealth" mechanics in a game that clearly wasn't made for it, that sometimes didn't matter anyway as some random guards can still see through your disguise and then they summon a clone that hit you with a 1Hit-KO projectile no matter how you approach it and then have to do it all again and hope you take out the guard quicker next time. Maybe I was just overthinking it as I've played my fair share of stealth games, but it still felt clunky. ..Then after all that, you escape, an alert calls for your capture yet any clones you see lose interest and give up within 2 feet of distance. Which really kills all the tension of the whole escaping thing. You get the magic ball thingy, enemies stand there staring at you from 2 feet away as you slowly give them a concussion via rubber ball. Every little thing just feels so disjointed, there's almost no meaningful interaction with the world or its inhabitants, which in a game like this, is baffling. That was the DEMO, and THIS was what's supposed to convince me of a purchase? I'd have been more likely to buy it if I hadn't played the demo first, and that's a sad truth.

a remake is never to replace the original one. Also you're not playing the remake with the same eyes as the original
