or could it convergent evolution perhap? instead of a parasite that moves up the foodchain per se, more along what we see- an organism thats learned to literally take over niches, so i guess its not that insanely out there one of the parasite-min got a hold of a juvinille crushblatt or the big boss bug with its shell coated in crystal, point being maybe it horizontally picked up the genes instead of sorta "cannibalize" its own species love that idea though, on the off chance its not a bulborb or something but another pikmin thats outside of the "rock papers scissors" so any abilities they once had can now help the parasite-min itself
I’ve always been very curious as to what the actual parasite Pikmin look like. I really love your depiction of them, I kind of always imagined them to resemble nerves/ a nervous system
I ADORE how organically you made the caverns blend in with the natural landscape. It makes them feel so much more like a real part of the world and so much less game-mechanicy and I really really adore this choice
This is INCREDIBLE!!! The set design/backgrounds are something that I've noticed that you've REALLY been popping off with in these recently, I love seeing your representation of the Pikmin world so much. I'd love to see more Distant Planet documentaries in the future! Always looking forwards to your animations!
Wooden Turtle: "Hey. Wanna see how hard I can make you cry?" Wooden Turtle: *Shows how sad Bulbmin are when you leave them behind* AUWWWUUUGHHHGHHHGHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO
thank you for hiring a real human to do the voiceover, so many people resort to AI these days and its always refreshing to see someone who still has the respect for the craft and the ethics required not to use the Big Pollution Machine. keep up the good work this video made me tear up a bit
I absolutely love the juvenile bulbmin in this. Their expressions are absolutely adorable. It makes me wish they came back and Nintendo didn't give them the short end of the stick Keep making toons. Dude!!!👍
get this man a job at Illumination to work on an official Pikmin movie. Imagine what a Pikmin movie with a whole team could look like if this is just one person animating.
I never realised how much I wanted to see the caves and the various sublevels within reimagined into a single continuous ecology until now. An extremely subtle detail, but I absolutely love it.
As usual you continue to amaze me. Easily the best Pikmin content online. If the subreddit demonstrated even a fraction of the passion and quality that you put into these videos, it would be a very different place. Thank you for doing what you do with my favorite game series. ❤
Oh my gosh Bulbmin really are horrifying! Imagine Wooden Turtle with the budget of the actual Nintendo short animations from the Wii U era. Your stuff is great man! :)
Oooo! I really appreciate the world building about the caves and areas, I could 100% see that being in the actual games. Honestly it would help make 2’s caves more memorable!
Mini theory: Bulbmin are extinct after 2 because every time Olimar encountered them he either transformed them into other types or they were eaten by a non-bulborb.
This is so so so cool, maybe my favorite Pikmin video of yours yet. It fits the universe of the games so well. They would ABSOLUTELY have wildlife documentaries. Just fantastic
I adore this video so much!!! The documentary-esque theming fits so well! I honestly would love to watch like an hour-long video of that narrator observing the various creatures and plants in the Pikmin universe. And the fuzzy Mamuta 😭❤ Excellent job on the video, my friend! Thank you for all your hard work!!!
What a surprise to see the video I was wondering when it would release to do so in my birthday! What a coincidence. Honestly, the Bulbmin are a cool yet terrifying concept on how a parasite can take over another lifeform and do its bidding and either remain like it or go for another host. And then you add how probably they do have emotions like the rest of the 'regular' Pikmin and being left behind gets to them (which also might be both the parasite and the host). A shame they did not return in Pikmin 4 but I hope they get another chance, specially after seeing concept art of I believe Pikmin 3 which goes to show they were considered. The video's style of animation has lots of improvements no matter the time that passes or the subject, Wooden Turtle. Props on the content. I liked the documentary style ala National Geographic.
This is amazing. The animation is stellar (I've tried to do some 3d animation with blender and that takes FOREVER, just rigging hurts my brain). You should be happy with what you have made.
I love this video, but i would love more it if the bulbmin went through the step of being in fear when their leader is killed to represent that torture and sadness they endure
Ok, I'm a 3D artist and animator, and as a HUGE fan of pikmin and biology (and documentaries) also, I'm totally DYING for this. Also, I'm crying because of leaving Bulbmin against my will, but you totally killed this. Your videos lately are such as inspiration to me.
I love how you used the Bean Pikmin. They are nearly fully functional in the Pikmin 4 files and were in the Pikmin 3 concept art book. I hope they get used in the Pikmin 4 DLC since it was teased!
This really does a good job at adding that moral dilemma that the pikmin games usually add subtly “Is what you’re doing right” This portrays a sort of tragedy as the Bulbmin we’re perfectly fine until we came along, absolutely stellar storytelling ❤
I believe once when promoting Pikmin, Miyamoto speculated that the Pikmin may actually be the villains of the story. And it certainly feels like that now.
Captains are an invasive species that have unbalanced the natural ecosystem of PNF-404, allowing Pikmin numbers to grow rapidly and destroying other life forms in their wake.
I’m never going to leave my Bulbmin again
become the new Sage Leaf
Just throw them into candypop bud, or enter the cave with 100 pikmin

One thing I really like about the wording of the entry too, is that it specified that it can't definitively, meaning, if it could, it would.
Which comic was it?

I've been following those comics and haven't seen the bulbmin appear yet can you link it?
This honestly looks like an official cutscene I would see on the next Nintendo console. Very impressive!
If Nintendo have their own National Geographic Channel-styled documentary, this and PokeEarth are the closest we can get.
1:37 an absolute reference of that one picture of a Pikmin parasite inside bulbmin’s body
Yeah
This was so sad when the bulbmin were left alone in the cave
This is one reason from why the bulbmin is my (2nd) favorite creature in pikmin
It’s very sad when they don’t have our leader when bulbmins are left behind and without there leader they don’t know what to do without there leader
But it is very happy when bulbmins have the adult bulbmins with them
