Basically you had trolls, and idiots that could not grasp the fact that the bottom seat lifts the back portion when you raise it so the hooks go over the rings.. the hooks drop down when you lower the bottom portion into the seated position... its something chevy should have done from the start.
Matt, you are a 100% correct, your mod in no way changes safety of the rear seat, just a lot of blowhards want to make negative comments, great idea, I did it to my truck. The only way back seat folds forward is if you release the bench portion. Thanks again.
My 07 did this from factory. The bottom seat folded up and forward and back folded down to make a platform. I wish the new trucks did that. It was really useful
I saw your video prior. Nothing wrong with making mods to your vehicle. I don’t get the drama queens. Nobody thinks anymore before they speak or comment. Nobody makes anyone do anything. Totally up to that person. Good job!
I'll tell you what Matt, I just finished making this improvement to my Silverado and if you're still looking for friends, I will be your friend! Now I am trying to come up with a fold-down shelf that will drop down whne I lower the back of the seat. Thanks again for sharing this.
This mod also works on 14-19 silverado double cab. I just did it, took about an hour. I cut the bracket 0.80" from the bottom of the top hole. I found that to be best after some experimenting. If i had to do this again i could probably get it done in 45 minutes including cleanup. Not much to look at back there but I'm glad i can access it now.
I have a 2001 Silverado and it is the same. I did not know if there was a way to lower the seat. Thanks for sharing info. Yes, we are all responsible for our own actions.
That's awesome bro...I'm going to try it. As far as the safety issue... People just like to complain about nothing sometimes...if I'm in an accident violent enough to straighten the hinge on a rear seat, I don't think the stock seat will make a difference.
Thank you Matt! Screw all these cry babies. I have an 08 extended cab & I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to put a simple audio system in it that is basically hidden. Both your seat mod & amp mounting ideas are exactly what I was looking for. From what I gather even though the 08 is different (no pull cord to lift the bottom & mounting brackets are slightly different) the basic seat is still the same. Except one major difference but I don’t think it will affect this mod. The seat is 60/40. In order to remove the seat, the passenger side (small side) is the key & has to come out first. The larger side has no actual mount to the floor there. It bolts to the bracket on the side to the smaller seat. I hope this helps others. Oh & btw, I’m 52 years old. My youngest kid is 24. There are no small kids riding with me lol.
Good video bro, people can be so uptight! I got some good info from your video, so thanks for putting it out there. Nobody riding in my backseat either, ha-ha.
This does not jeopardize safety of truck. I did mine on a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab. What I would measure the brackets of the seat that connect to the back face of rear cab to know where to cut them. Just make a dot where they need to clear bracket while the seat is still attached. While the seat is out of the truck remove the bolt holding the metal strap at rear of seat too. Install seat done.
Do you know how to deal with the seat rattling? I did this and now every time I go over a bump I get an incredible thunk noise from the back seat caused by the little finger rattling around and the entire back of the seat moving
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Great tip, and I'll be your friend. And would it have been easier to just got those seat cables so the seat would fold all the way down? As for me I'm not ever going to sell my truck.
At least someone wants to! You can, but then there are no safety straps. I don't recommend it to other people if they have passengers riding back there.
Same situation. No friends, same truck, same badass stereo. Spent this weekend doing some install upgrades. It took me 20 min trying to wrestle that stupid back seat out. My question: exactly how much of that little piece did you cut off?
Why do you just take the whole seat out..you're says nobody's seating back there ahhhhh..I needed hands job's to Cummings Dodgers pickup truck for 20plus years
Matt can you tell me how to get into the back of the center console of a 2017 Silverado? The end that faces the back seat? I have one of those sping grabbers stuck in there. That I was using to fish some wires through . From the floor to inside of the console. I got one side done (driver’s) I want to go up from that access flap on the bottom to the hole for the hinge.
Well being this is a nation of mostly Squat When They Tinkle, wipe front to back Soyboys, I can see where you got a little push back. I’m with you Brother, Gona Mod mine 1st chance I get, I’m one of those old school weird dudes that still PP’s standing up.
@MattsShop I have a 07 1/2 new body style that has a split 60/40 bench. One of the hooks is missing the nylon bushing, causing the seat to rattle over bumps, I think. I'm not sure I want to do this. But dang, it's a real pita getting that split seat off to get to amps and stuff. Not sure if I'll even be able to get it back on by myself. I have no friends either. I 🤣🤣
If you think that in no way creates a safety hazard you're not thinking it through. Since no one sits in your back seat, no a problem. However, if you sit something on your back seat and you get in a head on or rear end collision, that seat could possibly throw something at you. Here's hoping it's a pillow. If it wasn't dangerous, it would have come that way from the factory. No way to do this to my 2020 Silverado anyway. Rear seat is bolted to the back on the bottom, and has spring loaded releases at the top.
It's really annoying that Chevy made the back seat so hard to fold forward. I have a mouse getting into my truck through the vents on the back side of the cab... All I need to do is put steel wool from the inside and duct tape over it but I have to go through all this crap... WTF Thank you for showing how to modify the backseat.
The only thing that would change the safety in a seat is how it is bolted down to the floor the back part you can modify it anyway and it does not change safety at all. Seriously there are a bunch of idiots commenting that don't know their ass from hole in the ground
Lol to the people that think that is unsafe! I hope they realize many vehicles are made like that from the factory and are much weaker than that to boot.
I've had my silverado for 2 years and to this day I'm the only one who's sat in it 😂 I just wanna remove the back seats entirely so I can sleep back there.
I know I'm late to the party by 2yrs...😅, I lost my rsvp... I mounted my amps the same way! I love the mod.... but have kids😬.... I'll save this mod for a rainy day..... ( sucks too, those seats are a biz to remove for amp adjustments. 😒

@@MattsShop What I see, is one could buy maybe a foot or so, of Stranded cable cut two 6" sections, the same sized 3/8" and just loop it around and clamp it! Exactly! You get it. Don't disconnect the safety straps if you got kids or people back there. I know. You should see some of the comments.

My seat doesn’t have that strap underneath. 2008 Silverado. Any ideas?
Thanks, they redesigned stuff in 2008
@@MattsShop well I feel silly. My seats lift up without that strap. Thanks for the great ideas!
I am thinking of doing this to my 2000 Sierra, and mine doesn't even have those straps, so the safety of this mod isn't even an issue.
Thanks been wanting to do this to my 04
Should work well on a '04
How did you screw the amps in behind the seat? Can you show that? I dont wanna put a self tapper through it lol
I glued a 1/4" piece of plywood to the back wall with Liquid Nails Adhesive. I might film a quick video on it. People want to know.

What year is your new truck. It would have worked well on that 2000 Silverado.
I think its pretty cool what you did
Did you put wood back there to attach the amps?
What’s the max subwoofer size you were able to install?
2 12" sealed. If I was going to do it again I would do a ported setup.

Would this work if you lift the seat 2 or 3 inches ?
Nope it won't latch
I did it and it's just fine
Might use this to sleep in my trucj

Yup, not worth it. You can still put your amps back there you just have to take the seat out, set up the amps, and then put the seat back.

Probably not.
Yes
