One of the greatest compliments I ever received was when I was 23, my dad was 73. We were standing in the garden and I told him something I said at work, which was exactly how he had told me to react to the situation, if it ever happened (of course it happened, he knew it would, in all his years of wisdom). He said, “well there it is.” I asked “what? There what is?” He smiled and replied, “finally. The older YOU get, the smarter I become.” ❤️❤️
I’ve never forgotten that. (I’m waiting to use that line in my kids.)

My dad passed away a couple years ago. For years he expressed a great deal of regrets for not being in my life more. When they divorced, my mom made his life a living hell, so he had to keep his distance, but had made sure that I knew he was always there for me. I always told him that I didn't hold anything against him, that I understood what he was going through and the decision he had to make.

Lost mine at 92 BUT one experience a friend shared with me before my dad past made me be proud of his long good life he had with us. To explain how: Here's the story and maybe it helps someone else understand. My friend told me about his grandson who didn't leaved with his dad but they kept up a good son/father relationship. One Monday my friend was sad because the boy's dad had went over a cliff over the weekend and died. I imagine the man was in his mid-late 30's from what I recollect. When my dad past I reflected back on that story and told myself, "Man!, here I am acknowledging the fact that my dad was surrounded by sons, daughters and many grandkids who love him and he loved everyone of them and my friend's grandson lost his father at a very young age (about 12). I have no reasons or excuses to feel sad but happy for his full life leaved up well". So when he left I didn't say goodbye instead I said, "I'll see you later". Hope this shines on someone.

We've all been in battle and came through it when other's did not, and that change's your perspective. Before my son left for Iraq he told his men that a lot of you won't be coming back. You think this is a joke and that's what's going to get you killed. Every screwup was killed and unfortunately so did some of the good one's. May they all rest in peace.

So, I handed him my driver's license and said, "You'll probably recognize my name from my very generous donations to the Washington State Troopers' Balls." My dad was a simple man , a musician who was like a carpenter . He build his life on high integrity and his standards were just as equal . He was clearly a entertainer outside of his home . But in his home he was a dad 1st and taught me that life is a journey and you own your own path ..live it just like that ! He taught me how to always be humble and treat others with respect . His biggest concern was teachings us kids that trust is something earned not handed out ..but , he always said learn to choose those that you can trust ..
He taught me to say good of everyone an if not good... simply walk away from it !
My dad was what they call a man's man ..he valued his self respect and his only love was my mom 1st
    ..
63 years a marriage together ❤ she was 15 he was 18 ..back then when all they had was each other .. an marriage bonded STRONGLY ..
Dads are the master piece of the journey. Moms are the bonds to hold it all in place . Until we grow up and begin our on journey . We shadow our parents
Then our children shadow us in ways ..
We all have parents an we each hold each so dear .
We are product's of our environment ! I'm 61 yrs old woman who clearly defines shadowing my parents in great hopes that my children will recognize me for when I'm gone ..
I will watch the movie sir , your an inspiration in many ways ..
Your journey has been open display of a humble man that lead his journey with understanding of others .
    God bless you 🙏

My father was born in 1924 and weathered the Great Depression years. He never “used” that as an excuse for his upbringing. He learned how to prosper through it and make the best of the resources he had. This Depression farm kid later became the 1st Chief of police in our hometown. We learned from him, not only in our family setting, but also how he related to our community. He’s gone now, but still, countless people we come in contact with, still share stories of how my dad had some sort of influence on their lives as well.

NEITHER of my parents were kind to me. To my sisters yes, not to me. I made sure I took each of my kids to the doctors as often as needed, to the hospital when needed. My parents made excuses, usually money, even when I developed a heart murmur at seven and the doctor was worried I could go into cardiac arrest. I am involved in both their lives. I recall myself back in the day asking my Mother on behalf of my 4 year older brother EVERY Friday night if we could stay up past 9pm to watch our favorite tv show "The Dukes of Hazzard"
In my locale it was on from 9-10pm Friday nights.
Although she never once objected, I recall my Father always giving my brother a wink, meaning it was O,K.
He often watched Dukes with us growing up.
    I miss him.

I missed it all ,, I am now old and death gaining ground and of little value as a human being because I didn't care enough to be a difference , don't leave your life that way if you do it won't matter nobody will car to rember you because you made no difference, nanna and papa made a difference

Still love Dukes of Hazzard. I was 2 when the show premiered. I also had the thrill of meeting you at Cooters Place in Nashville in 2007. My dad died a year ago after being put on ventilator. He was in hospital in Nashville for pneumonia. He was recovering after a week. Then they put him on ventilator without notice. He went into cardiac arrest..It was flat put murder. Afterwards, the hospital falsified his death certificate by claiming COVID and received $39,000 from the federal government.

I've heard this before. It's very lucrative for hospitals to falsify records. I don't trust hospitals, they diagnosed my husband having carpal tunnel syndrome when it turned out to be a relapse of Lyme disease, he almost died. We got him on massive doses of CBD and he's healed.

👍 your timeline on how we perceive our personalities is right on. I'm very much like my father as we were very close and did many things together. I'm pushing 70 and he's been gone nearly 14 years. When troubled I often think what would he do in this situation. Then I realized, he would have done just as I'm doing.

I have the utmost respect for almost all peace officers. But there are some you have to wonder about.
3 years ago I was driving the dirt roads in the forest across the state line in Arkansas. I was just enjoying the scenery and while I was driving extremely slow with no one around. I stopped to look at a fox. After it ran off I continue driving slowly still. I looked in the mirror I noticed I had the sheriff's department behind me. So I pulled over and stop so they could pass, but they just stopped also.
After a minute I decided to go but I wasn't going to change my driving Style. I followed along behind me for the next couple miles and then I turned pick up an adjoining road that started bringing me back towards the ranch. When we were about a quarter mile from the state line on comes the lights and sirens. So I stopped in the middle this one Lane Road. She asked if I was drinking I said no I'm enjoying the scenery. she said you don't mind doing a few tests. I said whatever you can just be wasting your time but do what you got to.
So after failing reciting the alphabet backwards, she was demonstrating how to stand on one leg. As she was holding her one leg off the ground she said hold it at 6 in like this. A fairly good judge distances and it wasn't 6 inches. So I said I know your husband's been telling you that 6 in what's your foots only off the ground 3 in. 🤣😂 with that she was perturbed and what directly for her breathalyzer kit. After a few minutes she finally found it in the trunk. Lol I blew into it and it came up zeros. looking puzzled she said, how many beers did you say you had? My reply as I said I was sightsee it since you chose to drive behind me you were too. Pissed she said you can go. I proceeded to ask her why is she was busy looking for drunks on a dirt road when even if they hit something the most they can hurt was Bambi. I then stated it's the holiday, the real dangers out on the highway where there is many drunks endangering many people good day.

When my father died our little country church was over filled and people stood in back and in the balcony thru his service. The parking lot was full and there were car's parked 3/4 of a mile in both directions in August heat in rural Indiana farm town. I can only hope I'm half as well thought of. I miss him every day.

I just heard about your new film but have not seen it yet. I find it amazing how much my son is like his father. His father and I split while I was pregnant with him. Although his father remained in his life and had visitation privileges, I was the primary care giver for him since birth and beyond. Although he is an adult now, I find it so amazing that he has many of the same facial expressions and mannerisms of his father. He also looks very much like him as well. It could be another line for the song Ironic by Alanis Morissette.

I love the reflections here about fathers and sons. I knew early on that I was, and am, very much like my dad. And I mean that in a good way. If we weren't father and son, and somehow met each other, we would be friends.
We're both audiophiles, big time music lovers. We are both MAGA Libertarians. We are also both very skeptical, strong willed, and very opinionated. Neither of us always pick our battles wisely and have each gotten in to more than our fair share of pissing contests with people because of it. Because neither of us can play the game.
Neither of us are followers, but don't fancy ourselves much as leaders either. However, both of us have excelled in leadership roles. I can go on and on.
But I will say this... The first time I truly realized that I am my father's son, actually overwhelmed me with a sense of completeness I never felt before. But, to your other point, I also consider myself very lucky. Because I could have had anyone as a father. I was lucky that I got a dad that was a good natured and intelligent man, but with flaws.
Some people aren't so lucky. Some people have horrible men as fathers, or don't even know who they are. Those people really struggle in life. Take after him or not, it's up to us. To do the latter... Even if it is the right thing to do, doesn't mean it is easy.
