  • All this time I’ve been asking the wrong question. I believe this is the only question that needs to be answered.
I’ve asked some friends of mine to participate in an experiment and a discussion.
I want you to consider the question as well.

As a child I remember my dad cleaning his gun after a hunting trip. He had it in as many pieces as you can take take it apart. I picked up the double barrel and pointed at him saying ''peek-a-boo'. I will never forget what happened next. He gently took the barrel out of my hand, looked me in the eye, and in that low quite voice that dads have, said "you never, ever point a gun at anyone". I retorted with, ''but it's just the barrel, it's taken apart, there's no bullets''. He again looked me in the eye and again said 'you NEVER, EVER point a gun at anyone". That was over 50 years ago, he has been gone for almost 20, but I can still hear his voice.

Guilt is a feeling that occurs when you think you have done something wrong. Admitting that you fill guilty is an admission that you've done something wrong. If it happened as he said, he should not feel guilt. He should feel grief and empathy. Grief and empathy are different. The fact that he pretended to not know what happened shows that he does not feel empathy. That all being said, it is my opinion that Alec is criminally responsible for the death and injury. The chance that it happened the way he said is virtually impossible unless the firearm was malfunctioning. There is no indication of that here. He was given a firearm and he did not check to see that it was unloaded. He also allowed live rounds to be on the set.

So many of these replies have the same premise "I shoot all the time, and I would have known". Well good for you, Baldwin is pretty clear, he doesn't like guns. You probably shot more last week, than he did in the last decade. How many shooters put a hot round through a squib? Why don't they notice the lack of report or recoil and end up shooting through an obstructed barrel? These are gun owners who shoot enough to reload ammo, but they don't notice. Flip side, when Kentucky Ballistics blew his ass up, every round fired was too hot, but he didn't notice, until his rifle blew up like a hand grenade. Let the investigators do their jobs, you all can pile on him once you know what really happened, at this point you are all speculating, and holding him to your standards and experience. And no, I am not defending him, I am defending the PROCESS. Without process, Rittenhouse would be serving multiple life terms, but look what happens when you let investigators do their jobs.

Here's the thing about that...if he expected the gun to go "boom" and I believe that he did, then when the camera woman went down instead of just being scared, why didn't he immediately go to her? Even if his intention was to scare her, her reaction to actually being shot with a large .45 Colt bullet, would have been serious enough to warrant immediate concern from Alec Baldwin. From his story he didn't react that way. Even if he thought she had fainted or had a heart attack why did he not immediately go to her to help or comfort her instead of just standing there looking at her? That would be a normal human reaction. What kind of a monster to you have to be to shrug that off and not bother to render aid or comfort to someone, especially since he was the person responsible for causing it? The armorer and the assistant did not check the gun before the rehearsal. They never checked the guns before a rehearsal. He let the hammer go because he wanted to do a prank. His finger was on the trigger when the gun was pulled. He expected the gun to fire with a blank. If he did not scream at once, then he knew the gun would fire. If he screamed, cussed, and yelled anything, then he did not know the gun would fire. Common public sense, a friend would never leave their friend after they fainted or passed out.

When someone is inclined to play nasty pranks on other people they ALWAYS want to see the reaction or have someone helping them who will then either video it or describe it to them in detail. If he did it just to be doing it without seeing if his prank played out what would be the point? However, the next question goes right back to the initial question in this video, which is if he never pulled the trigger as he claims why was he NOT SURPRISED at that loud report and why would he then just walk away without finding out what had happened no matter what kind of load he thought was in the gun, especially if the director fainted.. Bonus QUESTION, who in the hell walks away if they think a good friend ( as he claimed she was) might have had a HEART ATTACK? I wouldn't leave a squirrel if I thought I had scared it into cardiac arrest.

I believe Alec was definitely careless in handling the trigger and hammer, on top of a live round found its way into the gun. Furthermore, the defense of, I did nothing wrong because I don’t know anything about guns. If you’re holding a weapon of any kind, that can cause great bodily harm or even death. You assume responsibility for that weapon. If a licensed gun holder is responsible for every round that comes out of his/her weapon, than all who possess a weapon under any circumstances is responsible as well. The only thing I’ll give Alec is, there are others responsible too, since somehow I live round made its way into the weapon. But in the end Alec is 100% responsible for her death. It's not that scary. But it is scary. It's enough to make you stop shooting until you know why it went off and has been fixed or corrected. Fortunately it was a single shot bolt action rifle. The safety is automatically engaged when the bolt is fully opened to eject or load. Upon closing the bolt the rifle discharged into the ground a short distance from my foot. That ended my target shooting for the day. I have never been so glad that I kept the weapon pointed in a safe direction. But it didn't scare me to death. I was honestly more scared during a tornado. I was more shocked when I thought my wife was pregnant again. I guess I was taught to expect a firearm to fail...just to be safe. Don't drop it. Don't manhandle it. Don't joke with it. It can go off unexpectedly due to mechanical failure, dirt, or carelessness.

I'm not convinced this was an accident on Alec's part. I didn't have to go to a range to figure this out, then I hear he was very close to her. He knew. You ALWAYS check EVERY firearm when you pick it up or recieve it, pull it out of a gun cabinet, or in ANY way put your hands on ANY firearm, or even a Nerf gun, an airsoft or whatever... say a cannon. Anything that can propel a projectile.
I'm glad you mentioned the red wax and the primer being spent (or absent) on the casing. There's no mistaking one for another. I've known that since I was 8 years old.
Additionally, I've heard his father was a firearms trainer? If true, he had to have more experience around firearms than most people. He knew better than to point A gun at anyone AND he knew to check a firearm AND he knew NOT to accept a loaded firearm (perhaps with an exception of on a range, but that's certainly not the best practice).
On a movie set, every gun should be handed to a person empty, should be checked by everyone who handles it, and loaded by the person who is going to handle it. No exceptions, period.
What if he did this on purpose, and the other speculation is just noise? What if he loaded it earlier? JS.

    • @WW5RM
      @WW5RM 2 года назад +17

They discuss all of that. A blank isn't as loud. But still dangerous! A dummy round is a hollow case. It will not fire. The primer will have a dent in it.
On the back, opposite end of the bullet, where the firing pin strikes is a circle in the very center. That's the primer. It ignites the powder. If it doesn't have a dent, it most likely is a live round!
Like many have said. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded and never point them at anyone! That's the first thing everyone is taught! Or supposed to be! So on a movie set with firearms involved their can't be enough firearm safety and checks! How this happened is beyond my comprehension! Unless there is foul play! No one can be that careless!
Everyone on that set who handled any firearm needs to be thrown in jail!
Kyle Rittenhouse spent two months in jail and was simply defending himself! Only way he got out was through donations to raise money for bail! So why is Alec walking around free? Plus how does he sleep at night?

    • @duxdawg
      @duxdawg 2 года назад +13

      Sort answer: No.
Three types of ammunition we're talking about here:
Dummy rounds look just like a live round, but are completely inert.
No primer, no powder, means they cannot go boom no matter what you do.
All you'll hear is a soft "click" as the hammer drops.
Much less noise and recoil with blanks than live rounds.
Blanks are more of a "pop", while live rounds are a "boom".
Vastly more recoil with live rounds than blanks.
The noise and recoil are completely unmistakable to the shooter and witnesses.

I'm a Purple Hearted US Veteran, with what I consider above average firearm knowledge, training, and safety under my belt. At no point in time, in over 30yrs+, has a single firearm just went off without my finger pulling the trigger! Very unfortunate incident to say the least, but I stand with you on this! KEEP IT UP! Truth with prevail!

When you use a firearm as a toy or prop there's bound to be problems or at very least sets the ground work for dangerous situations. It's 2021, there's options and there's protocols especially among what's considered "Professionals" in filming that is if negligence doesn't override it, the entire event is all about being negligent. Had that rule not been broken, she wouldn't been shot. There's no room for fudging basics of gun safety as each rule supports the other.

@@shooterqqqq well I'm not sure what movies you're watching. But there is more muzzle flashes etc etc than anyone can care to get pissed off about. The person responsible allowed live ammo on the set. That's outrageous and I hope her family sues the heck out of the people responsible. But the idea on a movie set we are going talk about the principles of gun safety after the fact takes a lot of vinegar for the bag, if you ask me. The whole deal was unsafe for several reasons. This young girl in charge of the guns was inexperienced and had little thought of just how dangerous things actually were. To teach and train actors with live ammo on or even near the set was the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Alec was also negligent by not checking the gun himself. But considering the state this happened in, it will be interesting if he is even charged with a crime. But civil suites will def be coming and so they should.

I've gone to gun shops and they hand me a gun from the case, I'm freaking out when they say I can dry fire it. I triple check that it's empty and no one is in line. And I still feel scared every time I pull that trigger. I hate that part, but with my small hands, trigger pull on revolvers is probably the most important thing when I'm buying a revolver.

Disclaimer: I do not condone this. When I first met my wife's grandfather and visited their house there was a rifle by each door and a few holsters with handguns hanging from pegs around the house. At one occasion, my now mother in law strapped on an new fancy leather holster from Arizona and walked in the room waving the .45 Ruger that it held around pretending to be a cowboy, funny until Poppy calmly said "you know every gun I own is loaded, that hasn't ever changed" she had been citified for years and was horrified. She very carefully lowered the gun and yes it was fully loaded. I asked him why he kept them loaded as is isn't very good for springs and things in mags and such and he told me an unloaded gun is a worthless piece of steel. The point is every gun is loaded until you prove it is not!!!

There are several videos around of people disproving the "springs lose push if you leave them loaded" thing. I've used mags that were left loaded for over 5 years and it's fine. Mechanical fatigue happens a lot more when the spring changes state. Compress, decompress, repeat.

I shot AR-15 (.223) blanks on a set, and there was no wax, no red tip. They had crimped the shell casing shut where the bullet typically is. Someone familiar with firearms (like myself) would notice that and could easily tell it was a blank. However, I could see where someone unfamiliar with ammunition might confuse that particular style blank with a live round. I kept a spent one as a souvenir, I wish I could post a picture of it so you could see what I'm trying to describe. That being said, with all the precautions the movie industry puts in place I find it very hard to believe this could've happened without negligence on Baldwin's part. I'm not going to go into detail, but there are numerous checks and precautions taken on set to be sure this sort of thing can't happen.

  • @otownracer

The only reason he would not be shocked is if he expected the firearm to fire a blank. Then seeing the camera operator drop in a pool of blood and the AD screaming out in pain - that would be a pretty good indication that he screwed the pooch!

Number of years ago my son got his hands on a .357 mag. He assumed it was unloaded. Pointed it, pulled the trigger. It did not fire. He then pointed it and pulled the trigger again. First time was an intentionally unloaded cylinder to act like a "safety." The second time it did fire. It scared him so bad that he dropped it, ran, and cried. And he was about 14yrs old. Nobody was hurt, but it still scared him so bad that he cried.

45 minutes? How could he know that someone wasn't shot? Was he expecting it? At that distance, there would have been a spray of blood. Especially since there was a second person shot as the bullet passed through. Maybe she wasn't dead yet, and AB had to wait? Or, maybe it took him 45 minutes to think of what lie he could tell?
