The trombone is probably the hardest of all the brass instruments to play cleanly and with skill. To improvise on it takes extreme skill. The technique is all about maximizing airflow and synchronizing it with the slide and various mouth shapes. Great trombone players are actually in high demand with professional recording orchestras and symphonies. A good unionized symphonic gig will pay about 80k to 125k.
