One thing footage of this creature has made me realize about this ocean is the sense of scale can be incredibly disorienting, some angles the squid looks like it's like 15 feet long with a fin bigger than my torso and other angles make it seem tiny with spaghetti tentacles
wonderful footage.... it also brings a smile on my face to even know there's a youtube channel dedicated to archiving all observations of this freaky, beautiful thing. :)
@@oakbed8724 There isn't one specific method. A lot of it is emailing different institutes asking for footage - as it was the case with this upload. Some heavy duty googling and reading research papers is another way. Finally, online forums such as reddit can also be very useful for finding obscure sightings.

That second angle was the icing on the cake
Huge thanks to the team at NOAA for providing this observation! Subscribe for more bigfin squid footage :)
I didn't realize how dark it was before seeing the second angle... Great find!
Woah it looked so big from the first angle and then in the second it’s so tiny amazing

Such incredible creatures! Graceful, sinister, aloof, majestic. Thank you for uploading this. "Positively otherwordly," indeed.
are there any size estimates? I believe it can be estimated if we know submarine's size because it's near a sub in the second footage
They are so fascinating!
wait why is it cute
i shall call it squishy and it shall be mine
I truly love this :)
I wonder how big it is, I know some ROVs are pretty tall, I’m unsure of this one though, because the squid looks so small compared to it
Is there a place where you can get these whole recordings? The radio and stuff is just so calming to me
You mean for this expedition in particular, or how I find the squid footage in general?
@@MagnapinnaArchive I’m general how do you find these?
