Awesome video! This track had everything.👍
The river crossings were epic.
The left side of you series seems to have acquired some creases I hadn’t noticed in previous videos.
My restoration is coming along slowly. My wife is encouraging me saying it’s like eating an elephant; one bite at a time.
Thanks Hayden!👍👌
I'm glad you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun making it. I'm just glad we weren't trapped in there due to the rising rivers.
As a kiwi in Australia I love seeing this from back home.
😀 🇳🇿 ❤️
As an Australian in Australia i also really enjoy watching some real honest use of 4WD's that haven't been heavily modified. Beautiful country to drive through.
As a kiwi living in kiwi land i also enjoy it
Love it 😀. I much prefer your video's to the ones you see were the engines are bouncing off the rev limiter.
New Zealand sure is a beautiful place. I can see why so much movie filming gets done there 🤗.
My Dad has a white Defender 90 😛
Thanks 👍🏼
I couldn't agree more. 95% of the time you don't need to rev the crap out of it to get through the obstacle.
Look after your vehicle and look after the land. 🙂
Hi I like your video
Great video mate, i live on the Gold Coast but 35 yrs ago I used to live in Christchurch and was one of original members of the company that bought Thompsons flat and loved the trip into the hut ,it was one of the best trips we used to do
Very cool. Yeah it's a great spot and the track offers a bit of everything.
Glad you enjoyed the video
Love it 👍
Cheers mate
This is the best Land Rover content on RUclips. Keep it up 😊
Thanks so much Nicky. 🙏🏼 appreciate it.
Cracking video. I really like the fact you do these trips in a reasonably standard vehicle, proof you don’t need massive tyres and lift.
So sick man. You're getting very good at these videos. I love the river crossings.
Appreciate the comment Tim.
So many river crossings on this trip. The very last one was a bit crazy but we got there.
Great videos as always.. definitely one of my favorites channels to watch.. However I must say I was a bit saddened by the news you swapped out the LR motor for a Toyota motor and I think you said Toyota gearbox/ transmission? I have a NAS 95 D90.. and have thought long and hard should I ever have to replace the motor.. I’m really leaning towards keeping it LR..if at all possible.. I’m kind of a die hard that way. I’m It sure.. hope I don’t need to make the Dec decision for a very long time..😅🙄😩🤷🏽♂️
That engine has been in there for over 25 years ! I didn't do the swap.
But it seems to work well 😂
Thanks for watching 😀
Thanks Hayden and Ben. Loved watching this video. Just subbed. How cool and fun! Loved watching the river crossings as well as talking us through it. You guys make a good team.
Thanks for the sub 🙂 I appreciate your comments. 🙏🏼
Thanks for the videos mate, Hopefully see you on a track one day :)
Great video. Looks like a fun trip. Love the sound of the tdi. Looking forward to spring when I can get my 200tdi out of winter storage and on the trails.
Thanks for making/sharing these videos. This looks an epic track and one to put on my list to do.
No worries. Yeah it's one of the best.
You've done it again. These video's are fantastic. You definitely deserve more subscribers/patreon members.
Thanks again!
Another awesome video Hayden 👍
Except the split screen with Ben filming you, I was just watching him hoping he would slip and fall into the river.... 🤷♂️ 😅
Hahaha. Thanks !! I almost fell in 2 minutes before that !! I think I'll have to make a blooper video one day.
"Kinda like a sports car" 😂😂😂
😜😂😂😂
Just when I think I've seen most of the good off-road channels, here you pop up. I'm in North Carolina of the US, but on the western end where the mountains are. That old Landy is an amazing vehicle. I drive a early Isuzu Trooper that many people confuse with a Landy due to it's shape. It always amazes me me how the old trucks did quite well without thousands of dollars in traction control systems. Nice video and the views were very good, even without a drone.
Cheers Phil 👍🏼 Welcome aboard.
Plenty more thrilling adventures to come this year. 🙂
Thanks for sharing what an amazing place to explore. And it is so nice to see your treating it with the respect that it deserves. 😊
Thanks guys. If we all look after these tracks / huts, we'll all get to use them for many years to come.
Hey hayden, I'd like to team up and test my Rig out. im on to my second build, How do we get hold of you , from the north island and love 4x4 overlanding
Email is your best bet.
Ok so you have a Toyota engine and gear box...no wonder you are able to do these remote drives...Toyota reliability taking you pla.
🤫..... 😂😂😂😂
Yeah it's a great setup.
The engines & gearboxes in these old Series Land Rovers were VERY reliable. It’s the modern ones that are unreliable.
Great video! Definitely enjoyed the longer format 👏
Cheers mate. I love the longer format as well... although it's a lot of work. Merry Christmas mate 🎅 🎄
Looked like a ton of fun!
One word mate, EPIC!!
I agree 😁
“Give it some jandal…” don’t think there’s a more kiwi technical term than that aye 👍
Hahaha, you're probably right.
Miss the land rovering in NZ
Charging port will be full of dust, pocket fluff and god knows what else. Dude did mine in 3 miniutes with long skinny tweezers, was a ridiculous amount!! Cool vid, cheers
Cheers Craig. I should definitely try that. It's so frustrating 😫
Oh man next time turn right into the bush track directly after the first river crossing (ford) and drive the whole river track.
You got some great weather though! We were supposed to go in early dec but it rained way too much
Thanks !! We noticed heaps of tracks going off into the bush.
Another awesome video Hayden! Thanks for taking us along for the ride !
You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. We had fun making it 😄
As always Brilliant Videos.. You Lucky Bugger... What happened to the "STIG" on your bonnet...?
Cheers 🍻 and A Merry Christmas to you Boet..
Thanks 👍🏼
Original stig blew off while driving into a huge windstorm.
Replacement stig wasn't up to the task ! I took him off before he fell off.
I've since screwed his feet into place, so he'll be back for the next video 🥰
Ahh Lekker Boetie/Boet.. (Translation. Lekker means Good/Nice/Correct/Sweet Boetie or Boet means Brother.. Afrikaans..) Looking forward to your next videos Bugger..
I have mentioned before you live in a very very Beautiful part of the world..
All the Best for 24.. Cheers 🍻 and Regards Charlie Zimbabwe 🇿🇼...
Thanks
Thank you so much Darryl 🙏🏼🙂
24:19 Looks like a Land Rover advertisement
😂🙂🙂 Ben will like this comment for sure
What a cool video, will definitely be doing these ones in the future!
You should! It's awesome there
Awesome content mate, only just found you’re channel yesterday and I’ve been binge watching it’s cool to see the old landys out there doing it, I’ve found more tracks to go thanks to you’re videos, drive a safari myself but also a fellow Canterbury local
Welcome aboard! Please share the channel with others who might enjoy it.
Look at you in the sun in a T-shirt! Very jealous haha!! Freezing over here!! Great video!! I’ll watch it at home on tv too! Just a work on break! 😎👍 happy Xmas champ!
Good video mate 👍🏼 where's the stig gone 😮 have a good Christmas 🍻
Cheers Mate !! I had more issues with stig 2.0 (original stig came flying off while driving into a massive windstorm)
He'll be back for the next trip. To be honest, I was missing seeing him out there 😂
Thanks Mate , That was a hell sick video. Happy X-mas 🎄🎉🎄🎉
Thanks mate, Same to you 🎄🎅
Great stuff .keep well guys from the uk
Thanks Paul
Chur from Sydney bro. Former Tongariro maunga resident. Mad experience.
🙂🙂 cheers bro
that looked a lot of fun
It was. Finding that hut was great.
To yyou thank you for sharing
You're welcome 😊
7% is pretty good! I get around 2% 😂 awesome video as always, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Ill put up the % in a months time, for this video only. Will be interesting to see the stats.
Cool vid , great stuff guys
Cheers mate
I had the same B engine/celica gbox set up in my series 3 until 5 th gear shit itself. Went back to a 5 bearing crank engine and gbox. Just need to get it rewired as it was 24v start
I think it's a fantastic combo.
@@hayden_jones it was until the gearbox failed.
nice one bro i have not be ther yet cool place
Thanks mate. 👍🏼
Whereever theres a Blackadder in that area, there's gold to be found. Rumor has it that old man blackadder had found the motherlode somewhere in there, but took his secret with him, as do a lot of people.
I really enjoyed the vlog God bless all of you
Thanks 👍🏼 😊
Another good vid. I was thinking the first track looked familiar. Must be 20 years since I did it in my lifted 3dr soft top Suzuki Vitara with Suzuki 4wd club. I remember driving across the first river and turn right and a tough bit with log to get over and then down into the river the whole way. Only prob was she was a bit light and I floated down the river during a crossing, still remember water flowing out of my electric window switches into the cab. Spark plugs out and turned the engine over to expel the water and phew all was well. Drove the 4wd track on the way back to reduce time in the river lol.
Cheers Tim. Sounds like a great adventure.
Hi Hayden and ben great fun aye where was this track please ? looking for some adventure over the holidays
Thanks. It's in the springs junction area
Hi Hayden, that was a excellent drive some very nice New Zealand countryside, thanks for the ride-a-long, I would like to wish you and your familybandvdriving companions all the very best for a Very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year, very bedt regards from a ex ChCh lad now living in Melbourne
Thanks Les, Merry Christmas to you and your family, Cheers for the support
hey hayden ive watched a few of your vids now and they are amazing. i just wanted to ask where this place is and is it public? im 15 and getting my licance next year and love 4wd and hunting. and i have a whole list of places i want to go and thing would be grate to add to my list thnaks.
Hey, Thanks 😊
Parts of it are public, and parts are private. Please respect the private parts. All I'll say is it's near Springs junction.
Great video ❤
Thank you!!
Access past the gate is fun, but the ruts are getting big on the flat. You need bar work and big tyres.
How far is it from the gate to the hut?
@@hayden_jones there are two huts, one is right by the gate, but the other about 1.5km as the crow flies and the return trip to that can be anywhere from 2 hours to all day depending on how things go.
Big tyres on a Landy is guaranteed broken axles.
Last time I went in there with a Defender we had to do a 3 stage winch just to get it round the first corner and we gave up after that... Don't think you'd have got very far with the stock 90 and the Series unfortunately!
Well done!
Cheers 👍🏼
Thanks for the video .Bloody great very enjoyable
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Just wonder where’s this? This is so sick
Great trip! Don’t give away too many location dets please!!
Yeah I won't. It's a little gem
When crossing rivers you should always drive with thecurrent , not against it.
Doesn't always work like that. The best place to cross is where the water is at it's shallowest and slowest moving. In this video we looked up and down the river for suitable spots to cross and this was the best spot.
Did I get a post from you I just saw a photo of you looks like the caves up waipuna road just out of Ikamatua I’m not sure what the post is for can’t find it
Have a look on my RUclips page, then go to the community tab.
NZ is awesome
I agree 👍🏼 💯
Interesting that you have a Toyota engine and transmission. How did you mate the transfer box to the transmission and was there a big offset going to the differentials?
The Engine and transmission conversion was done years before I got it. So I'm not much help to be honest. Never had any issues with it though. Can comfortably cruise at 100-105kph (at 95db) !!!!😳
@@hayden_jones
Lol ! Yes mine is noisy as well.
Merry Christmas from the Northern Hemisphere! To what extent are you using low ratios and locking the diff when you do this or does it just not need it?
Merry Christmas to you way up there !!
I do all of my 4wding in Low range, usually 2nd gear (1st if it's a slow technical challenge)
I don't have front or rear diff locks.
I have free wheeling front hubs (4x2 or 4x4)
Hope that answers your question
Thanks - it’s just the centre one on most Landies, I know, but I wasn’t sure if you were even using that.
Wonderful!
Glad you think so!
Were abouts is this and how to get there?
Next time im in nz ill would like to take the kids there.
Are you about camp there?
almost as good as a model train video
Cheeky bugger.
Hope you enjoyed it Dave
I missed the location. Wow!!
Good afternoon do you have to get permission to go through the gate at the start
No, but it is private there, so please, no silly stuff.
@@hayden_jonesgood evening just refreshing my old timers what was it like coming in from the southern end and going up to that hut
where was this track???
All i'll say is it's near Springs Junction.
Any hints where we could find this track?
🤐
It's near Springs junction
Thanks mate. I’m over that way over the Christmas break I’ll sniff around 🫡
What happened to the Stig?
So I had the new stig on, but I almost lost him in the drive over. I need to screw him down a bit better.
He'll be back soon 😀
@@hayden_joneshi, could this be tackled solo?
Great Landy's there and awesome trails, sic vid, cheers great inspiration before on head of tomorrow on my solo adventure.
Merry Xmas and have a Happy New Years.🤘
Cheers mate. Merry Christmas.
A ‘cell’ phone in NZ?
🙂 you know it
@@hayden_jones
I thought you were the same as Oz. MOBILE phone. You must have gone Yankee. 🙅♂️🙈🙁
Most kiwis call them cell phones
@@grahameroberts8109 We may be near Oz but we're nothing like them. 'Cellphone' is the word here.
Be careful what you post , 2 tracks into 2x Private Huts . Both are really neat locations but don't need any recognition . Please do not share the whereabouts .. Thank you
Absolutely, I respect the privacy of those locations.
Looks like the west coast somewhere awesome spots 😎
You got that right!
Close but not quite 😅
Wheres this track?
It's near Springs junction
Lake Daniels?
And now everyone knows where it is and people will destroy it great.
🤔 What will they destroy? And who are "they"?
Whose they 👀
@fijiannz_44newzealandadven48 love your Instagram content Alfy 🙂
When are you going to get an old Landy 😆
The 33" brigade will screw it up. Just take a look at the Porika track by sabines camp.
Amatør🫣👎🏻🇩🇰
Ja. kunne du lide videoen
awesome vid, my personal favorite two tracks
Thanks. A lot of fun.
