One thing which I hv noted our brothers,father...uncles etc do..when they are walking with us(females..) on road is they walk a little behind us......,that's for the safety...(especially while walking in crowded road)...And that's like in built reflex mechanism .......that almost everybody follows here.:)Probably next time you may consider it in a crowded place.Just mentioning it out of concern and care.😊Also she would not have to catch up with you..taking care of dupatta at the same time;)..
