Here in Canada, or at least in the province I live in, it's mandatory to take French classes from like kindergarten to grade 9. I took them until grade 10 and I STILL can barely speak fluently 😂 It might be because I did not take the immersion classes but it still seems kind of ridiculous looking back now at all that time spent only to get to a basic level. I think I learned the most in grades 9&10 as I was placed in a mixed class of the immersion students and core academic students. There was a much higher ratio of immersion students however, with most lessons and activities catering more to their level of learning. The only difference was the projects, as us core student's projects were not as difficult. It's amazing you know all these languages though!! You've motivated me to try and learn a new one!
i take ojibwe and i can barely speak it myself despite learning since the first grade. i only really started learning till this year because our teacher actually teaches it good. but usually it seems like learning a language in school is absolute shit

I'm the same, I have had an interest in Japan and Japanese, so when I was 11 I began to study the language. I've slowed down a little bit because when you get to a certain level, it's a bit hard to study, but I'm finding things to learn again and I look forward to actually gaining more fluency, and just this year I've begun studying Korean so I can see the similarities through the languages. When you visit Bern for example then you will notice that they speak a little bit different than in Zurich. Some dialects are for somone who only knows standard german more difficult to understand than others.

I can talk Norwegian (fluently), English (also fluently), spanish (just a little), Sweedish (almost fluent), danish (can talk a little but understand fully) and german (can communicate but not talk so mutch)
I would love to be fluent in a lot of languages one day, I love languages so much because you learn so much about other countries and cultures! My native language is English but I have been studying French for almost 3 years, Spanish for almost 2 years and Korean for a little while, I self teach myself Korean but I study French and Spanish in school.

When I was young I was able to understand Vietnamese and Chinese (Cantonese) but as I grew up, my parents started to talk more in English so I'm now fluent in English and have completely forgot everything in Vietnamese and Cantonese. I'm soon to be 15 and fluently speak Swedish, English, almost fluently Norwegian because it's so similar to Swedish, a bit of Icelandic, basic Japanese and German, and I wanna learn Yiddish, Jewish/Spanish and ofc Chinese! I can actually understand a lot of Yiddish because of my German skills.

From self experience and other of my friends experience, they mention how Japanese in HelloTalk wont reply to them quick or they just don`t reply at all. Which from my experience, i had luck but mainly coz how native japanese people in Japan have different timezone compared to your own. They got their own life. School or such as workhours. Also some still not confidence with speaking english or other languages they currently want to learn. So if anyone want to try message a a native japanese speakers, make sure to make them at a comfortable level, don`t go straight on English right away. If you write to them or send japanese voice message in Japanese at first also being aware of which time of their day seems to fit to message them. You`ll be in luck. It same goes to Spanish speakers, not everyone really know English fluently so, better learn their own language first before you start exchange with English or whatever they wanna teach themself. HelloTalk helped me alot with my Japanese and such as Spanish, loving the app. highly recommend it just like Venus!

For me the hiragana was easy. Learning 5000 kanji characters for basic speech was the difficult part.

I can talk Norwegian (fluently), English (also fluently), spanish (just a little), Sweedish (almost fluent), danish (can talk a little but understand fully) and german (can communicate but not talk so mutch)

I would love to be fluent in a lot of languages one day, I love languages so much because you learn so much about other countries and cultures! My native language is English but I have been studying French for almost 3 years, Spanish for almost 2 years and Korean for a little while, I self teach myself Korean but I study French and Spanish in school.

When I was young I was able to understand Vietnamese and Chinese (Cantonese) but as I grew up, my parents started to talk more in English so I'm now fluent in English and have completely forgot everything in Vietnamese and Cantonese. I'm currently studying Japanese and hopefully maybe Vietnamese and Cantonese again! Wish me luck (:

I totally admire people who can speak so many languages! I myself can only speak German and English fluently. I've had French lessons for 5 years and I'm pretty good at it but I'm not fluent. Also I have to decide if I want to continue with French or want to start taking Italian lessons soon. And I want to learn Korean too! ._.

I'm soon to be 15 and fluently speak Swedish, English, almost fluently Norwegian because it's so similar to Swedish, a bit of Icelandic, basic Japanese and German, and I wanna learn Yiddish, Jewish/Spanish and ofc Chinese! I can actually understand a lot of Yiddish because of my German skills.

From self experience and other of my friends experience, they mention how Japanese in HelloTalk wont reply to them quick or they just don`t reply at all. Which from my experience, i had luck but mainly coz how native japanese people in Japan have different timezone compared to your own. They got their own life. School or such as workhours. Also some still not confidence with speaking english or other languages they currently want to learn. So if anyone want to try message a a native japanese speakers, make sure to make them at a comfortable level, don`t go straight on English right away. If you write to them or send japanese voice message in Japanese at first also being aware of which time of their day seems to fit to message them. You`ll be in luck. It same goes to Spanish speakers, not everyone really know English fluently so, better learn their own language first before you start exchange with English or whatever they wanna teach themself. HelloTalk helped me alot with my Japanese and such as Spanish, loving the app. highly recommend it just like Venus!
