I was absolutely stunned when I walked out of the theater following this movie. It's very rare that a movie both surprises you and touches my heart at the same time. Found your content through your TLOU videos but am very much looking forward to seeing what else you come out with.
I truly hope this can transcend into classic movie territory. This movie is beautifully striking and its the only movie I've ever been able to cry happy tears at ever, nevermind a whole 20 minutes straight lol
Adored all your tlou videos and couldn’t wait to see what you did next - what a brilliant choice and amazing analysis as always. Looking forward to hopefully watching your channel grow and seeing what you’ve got for us in the future!
This was perfect timing, I need a reminder to rewatch this masterpiece. During, and immediately after finishing watching the movie I knew it would be my favourite movie of all time. Nothing I had ever watched in my life before that resonated with me so deeply. I 100% agree that with innovation comes ideas and concepts that were once new to become underwhelming, and that emotional sentiment is what makes something’s impact really last. It made me sob so violently that my mom had to check in on me asking if I was alright 😂 it was difficult to explain to my mother why I would be crying so much over a silly movie.. I’m just so glad the Daniels were willing to bring such a risky, typically uninteresting story to the big screens. The risk extraordinarily paid off, seeing just an average Chinese immigrant family gave me the representation I never knew I needed or wanted so much before. It was the first time I saw a movie made towards American/western audiences to have Cantonese.
You make such high quality stuff. Thanks for all your insights. Been following since the Last of Us videos and I hope your channel keeps growing, really deserves to
I have seen this movie four times and I get more out of it every time I see it. I'm so happy you decided to do an analysis of this. I subscribed after watching the first TLOU video and I'm looking forward to your insights on whatever hits the zeitgeist next.
saw rhis movie 3 times in 2022 and each time i noticed more things. like i didnt notice the raccoon tail pointing out of the chefs hat when gou first him. and each time i rewatched i started to really understand what it was about, because ill be honest, the whole point of the movie got a little bit lost on me. this is absolutley the type of movie that deserves multiple watches.
i really like your videos pey! would you make one of the film the whale? you have a tallent to express the emotional part of the films that just hits you in the right spot, hope to see more of this in the future :)
Surprisingly I’ve never watched this film ive heard of the hype but I thought it was overrated I did say the same thing for Frieren though and I can see you called it a masterpiece Ill definitely check it out and if I do enjoy it thank you pey.🙏🏻
Billy Hatzi, After hearing all the hoopla of "the best film of 2022" my wife (of 54 years) and I tried to watch it on free-week TV. My wife has a good HS education has worked as a secretary & copy editor, reads voraciously and participates in a 2 books/month club. I have; two Associates, a BA from a major university and have worked many years as an RN in urban trauma center emergency departments. We REALLY tried to make sense of this silly waste of time. When we got to the IRS office scene of the woman chair-flying and punching the IRS Agent, we both scratched our heads. When the male lead launched into his Bruce Lee (AKA IMPOSSIBLE) "special effects" we gave up trying to waste any more time with it. The only other 2022 Oscar nominee I saw was All Quiet on the Western Front. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the best-selling book twice and BOTH prior film versions (1930, 1979) ALMOST as much as last years' OUTSTANDING retelling of this 100 year-old masterpiece. Even watching on our BIG screen 5-speaker surround-sound sterio with bowls of butter corn and cans of soda, we could fathom not how this arcane, silly "special effects fantasy" took more awards than AQWF! This speaks to the middle school sophistication of 21st century academy and audiences that consider comic book superhero special effects movies "high art." My wife and I are quite happy that we wasted neither one more second nor one red cent on this implausable, IMPOSSIBLE childishness. If this pre-adolescent nightmare was the "best picture of 2022' I am loathe to suffer through the worst.

I loved it... then I watched it again. The acting is actually pretty horrible ending and it's so corny and cringey. And the underlying plot makes her whole reason destroying universes for what? So mom can seee something inside the bagel she couldnt? Then she was like oh you cant ok lets just hold hands and go together... ok nm ill just go alone Pretty weak underlying plot and you cant deny that. Some acting was wonderful... some was really bad. I was actually embarrassed showing it to a friend because she hated it too and i was right there with her. A lot of great things but all the cleverness is overshadowed by the lack of common sense. I loved the innovation I loved everything about it the first time. I realized it was not as good. It buckles from the weight of its own creativity
Absolutely loved this film. Howled with laughter loads, shed some tears at points too. So wonderfully original, fun and off the wall.
god every time I watch this movie It destroys me and even just this video had me tearing up its the most incredible movie I have ever seen
laundry and taxes line is just epic
Ive been meaning to rewatch this. Was the first movie in forever that felt truly different from everything else out at the time.
Also I wanna take your voice to dinner
You summarize in 10 minutes everything that took me 3 viewings of this movie for me to understand. Great video, man

Ayo, first comment. Also I literally already watched it 3 (or more, idk) times, it's too good
Thanks for reminding me just how great this movie is.

This movie is a straight up masterpiece. It’s still hard to believe it exists.

You misspoke. Michelle Yeoh is 60, not 50. First time it was correct. Second time you said she was 50. Just an fyi. Great review!
yup you got there.
this movie is more emotionally true to optimistic nihilism.
unlike rick and morty's negative nihilism.
Ugly cried at this movie. Fuck The Last Of Us. And I loved The Last Of Us. Two different stories but one is clearly better. This.
Interesting film, but a bit unfocused in style as well as story.
