I think Primal Groudon is badass, but I am a little bitter to it for one reason. It made Camerupt, a Hoenn Pokémon I’m very fond of, completely obsolete by yoinking the unique Fire/Ground combo and making it OP w/ Desolate Land and making it a black shiny (which is very cool, but still). No one’s gonna bring up the camel when the new kid shows up and transforms, and that kinda sucks
Primal Groudon was overpowered, so it is banned till OU... So where is Camerupt... Camerupt is not a good Pokemon, not bcoz of Groudon... But for being very mid...
I still love Camerupt, and their mega. It's one of the Pokémon I used in Pokémon White 2 the first time I played. (My team was full of ground types for some reason) Plus I have a love hate relationship with Groudon, as a child I decided they were the harbinger of doom, because I lost my Leafeon in pearl when trying to level them both up, had to fight them as a boss in pmd (explorers and rescue team), then watched a movie where he was 'virus Groudon' and caused destruction, and finally battled the feind in omega ruby only to get slain because water didn't work. When I caught the little bastred, I tried to utilize their immense strength only for it fail miserably. So I banished the cool looking Pokémon to the pc for the rest of my time playing Omega Ruby. Rayquaza was better anyways.
Imagine how busted Koraidon would be under Desolate Land in a VGC format. You can’t even outstall Desolate Land, you either need to kill Groudon which is already a daunting task, or you need to pack your own Cloud Nine, Delta Stream, or Primal Kyogre.
And primal ogre doesnt necessay mean sun is down don could be slower and cloud nine mons and generally not good wo ray is the only reliable counter to don's sun
Im pretty sure koraidon would much prefer the attack boost on his ability than desolate land, but if we're talking abt past paradox form paired with desolate land, sure that'd be so OP.
Everything about Primal Groudon is so insanely cool. Desolate Land is a RAW name, and the shiny is just too goated. Hoenn Weather Trio are just too hard to beat overall
If you look at the sheer size of this dude next to other Pokémon of immense size, you'll find he (I know, technically, it) is about as long as freaking Steelix, perhaps even Mega Steelix. Its Pokédex height is definitely its foot sole to head measurement while hunched over in its ordinary idle position.
You know what’s much more broken than a legendary mega pokemon that doesn’t need an item to mega evolve? A legendary mega pokemon that lets you use another mega pokemon
Well, him and Kyogre are the Representatives of the climate wars in Pokemon, even in the competitive scene, so i don't think anyone would use anything else.
@Dark-Pikachu1 nah man forget about that shit, imagine how much past paradox mons would benefit from a permanent source of sun, they get a free protosynthesis activation so long as Groudon stays on the field.
I am absolutely livid at how brutal and surgically effective PriGrou was. Nearly the highest Attack of all Pokemon, a rare type combo in Ground and Fire, infinite sunlight that nullifies water, a Defence that walls can only dream of, a titanic Special Attack that makes him the best Ground and Fire special attacker ever made, and a movepool so wide it is as vast as the world itself. The only way to destroy the behemoth is to exploit the frailer Special Defense, with only one weakness to name, and it is what makes Groudon himself: the Earth itself through Earth Power or Ground Judgment. However, this will leave you open to being razed by Groudon's favorite toy in a turn 1 Solar Beam which melts Ground, Water, and Rock like a magnifying glass against ants. You could say "Oh well there are several type combos that are defensively good against him" okay like Flying Dragon which is immune to Ground and resists Fire and Grass. Well, prepare to get Stone Edge'd out of the air. Or even worse, a nasty Dragon Claw or surprise Dragon Pulse. Another reason why he is so brute forceful is his gaining of his own signature attack, Precipice Blades. Stronger than Earthquake, spreads out and spares allies, but low accuracy. Pray your evasiveness wasnt ever lowered or Gravity never activated, because getting impaled by pillars of ruby usually ends in fatalities. Well, how about his opposite in battle, Primal Kyogre? Surely he is his counter right? Well, havent you heard? The way Desolate Land and Primordial Sea, technically Mega Rayquaza's Delta Stream work is the slowest of the three will keep their effect up as they overlap. All Groudon has to do to keep his sunlight up is to be slower than his enemy trio. There is only so much Kyogre can do with nonstab Earthquakes and Ice Beams, and Rayquaza can wear himself out too with Life Orb attacks. The biggest reason why I despise him isnt the fact he annihilated the game with raw power, I barely saw him actually in casual play since I usually played with legends off since Im not petty. Its the fact that he is as powerful and as fast as my favorite legend, Reshiram. Both have 90 speed and 150 attack, Fire stab, and a diverse movepool. Well, the problem is since Groudon is so fucking fat he resists Stealth Rock, has much higher defenses, and can rip through anything with his 180 Attack compared to Reshie's okayish 120 Attack. The only thing Reshie has over him is the fact she has Blue Flare, but even then she is outclassed as a Fire, even a Special attacker because of the perpetual on demand sun and immunity to Water while Reshie is neutral. In every single way, apart from her larger special defense, Groudon makes Reshie almost an afferthought. And when you get brave to use Reshiram, odds are someone else will run Groudon. And you will pay for it dearly. Reshiram cannot do fatal damage to Groudon outside of crits without being crushed into fluffy bits in one or two blows. I hate Groudon. Vehemently. At least with Primal Kyogre, he is balanced with the way his rain works as his weakness of Electric carries perfectly accurate Thunder, and even Flying has perfectly accurate Hurricane. And even Reshiram's opposite of Zekrom has the capability of taking on a Primal monster. Poor Reshie...
Well, Groudon and Kyogre are basically the Representatives of the Climate Wars in Pokemon, even in the competitive scene, so i don't think people would use anything other ability, except for a really broken one, but i can't imagine nothing stronger with them.
I wonder, if harsh sunlight were still in games, hydro steam (signature move of walking wake), as it become more powerfull with sun, would still be able to be used in harsh sun.
