I'm not trying to bash your opinion here, we all have our own individual preferences, but the Civic is OBJECTIVELY cleaner and sleeker looking. Which one you like more or less is up to you to decide, but saying the Mazda is cleaner or sleeker looking than the Civic is incorrect.
I just bought the Mazda 3! It’s a fun car to drive. The interior and exterior looks so sleek and premium. Have to agree that the car gives a luxury feel! Love every bit of it
I test drove both the Touring and the non Turbo Premium Mazda3, and I felt that the interior of the Mazda was slightly better, if not as flashy. Add to which it provided a smoother ride and that the longevity and quality of the 1.5 Turbo engine that Honda is using is still under scrutiny, and I think I would go with the Mazda.
CVT may be good on gas but man are they Boeing and cheap which is the main reason manufacturers are putting them in. That is the reason the Civic costs less!!!
There's no legitimate reason for Honda's 1.5 engine to be under scrutiny, though. With respect to the oil dilution, that was greatly exaggerated. It only affected very short trips in very cold weather. Anyway, it was supposed to have been fixed via a software update.
@@mrslcom the type r is better than any Mazda 3 and so is the Si, they have better steering, suspension, dampers, transmissions and overall power output
@@nolifezay4636hey’re two cars for different people. While they are similar, Mazda offers better handling and more power, a more luxurious interior, and arguably better design for most people. The Civic is more practical in the sense that it has better MPG (although Mazda is still really good) and slightly more room, but they end up costing much more than Mazdas because of dealership markups. So, Mazda sporty/luxury, Honda simple/effective.
AWD turbo hatch/sedan, no CVT, good reliability records, styling is subjective but I like it a lot, interior materials are soft and premium, 0-60 in 5.7 seconds more or less, what more can I ask for? Love my Mazda, just the perfect balance in each category imo. Yeah the space maybe a little bit tight for large people, so test drive first
I'm 6 ft 4 inches and don't know why everyone really harps on the space, even passengers behind me have space either most people are super out of shape and can't sit a bit more upright.
@The Real Man "Don't know about car?" Sorry, but do you know about car yourself? CVTs are used because they can keep the engine in an efficient rpm range and give better MPGs, which is of course, a major selling point for economy compact cars. Same thing with the turbo. It's about lowering the engine displacement and increasing the fuel efficiency while maintaining the power. This should sound familiar because its the whole reason for Skyactiv. But even with Skyactiv, Mazda still had to resort to turbocharging, and I won't be surprised if they start using CVTs as well. As you see in the video, the newest CVTs have come a long way.
@@Saturdayz_In_The_Fall I've had the base turbo model since December and it's really good, just takes time getting used to it. The lack of a touch screen doesn't bother me because of how well they've integrated the master controller. The stock navigation is my biggest complaint, but I can just use Android Auto.
@@noobwow2009 maybe if you carrying 3+ people often, dont look at a compact sedan? lol. These cars are for single people or couples. Not for families with children.
I test drove a Mazda 3 sedan yesterday. It was the preferred trim with AWD. As a 5+ year owner of a 2016 Mazda 3 hatchback I-Touring manual 2.0, here are my thoughts: Impressive torque off the line! Feels quicker than mine, everywhere. Very quiet and the suspension was much more supple, again than my 2016 I didn’t like the steering wheel shape. Mine is round and very comfortable. This new one is squared off all around the wheel, which leaves a square edge that digs into my hands. I like the new media screen and system. It is more upscale than before. I don’t mind the screen not being a touch screen, as I never use it that way in my car. I always just use the controls down by where my arm rests, very easy I never have to lift my arm. The back seat backrest is too vertical and not comfortable. It they could just lean it back a little it would be a big improvement. It feels small in the back seat, but I guess that’s the way compact cars are made. The HVAC controls used to have where you can press one of two buttons to aim the air coming from the vents. To your face, to your face and feet, and easily back to your face. Now you have to go all the way through all the choices to get back to where you started, you can’t just go right back. Maybe one less button but not an improvement to me. I can’t really speak about the handling as there were no curvy roads on my test drive. But even if its not as good as the older version, that’s ok as the ride quality feels like its in another class. One final thought, the dealer I went to charges an extra $2300 over the MSRP. For that you would get window tinting and paint sealant. Plus they charge a $500 doc fee. I would never pay that, but since they stay in business I guess all their buyers accept it.
Mazda all day everyday! Interior and exterior of a Mazda is far superior in all categories. Slightly bigger boot and more knee room, as well as phone charging ports in Civic will not change my mind about CVT. Great video guys. Cheers
I don't understand why people love touchscreens in cars. They are generally very laggy, and trying to hit a touch button while moving and bouncing around is far from ideal. I commend Mazda for being bold and stripping it out.
Mazda 3 is fun to drive especially the hatch. Only advantage of the Civic is the interior space. Style is based on a person’s preference. If you love driving, go for the Mazda.

Honda design grew up on me so much in such a short period of time more than any design.. it looks so simple, but also fresh and modern, it looks like a more solid built car, even if it’s “boring” plain looking.
I’ve been in the market for a new car for a few months now. I currently own a Mazda 3 hatchback and wanted to upgrade to the new turbo. But that claustrophobic interior was not enjoyable, and the hatch was surprisingly small. Really hoping to try out the new civic hatch when it comes out!

2022 Honda Civic! I've driven several 2020/2021 Mazda 3's and came away unimpressed. The ride quality is the most significant drawback. Many of our roads are in disrepair and you need a vehicle that drive over them without sharp jolts. The high belt line is also very difficult to get used to. The new Civic is very refined, quiet, high quality and strikes the perfect balance between good ride quality and agile handling.
The testers in the video said both cars rode smoothly, but said the Mazda was quieter, which was confirmed when they tested them with a noise meter. A 3.3 db difference at 55 mph, from 59.5 for the Civic to 56.2 for the Mazda is a very noticeable difference.
The Mazda definitely - I would have just compared the 2.5 non turbo and with the civic (which is closer in terms of power/acceleration) ...and the civic price advantage is gone..
The biggest difference is this: The Mazda has the exterior of an Italian luxury car with the Interior of a German luxury car...its pure emotion and excitement The Honda is another Honda, it excels at underwhelming and not overpromising
The interior design of the Mazda looks a lot better still and it hasn't been updated in a while, unlike the Civic which just got an update. The Civic's driving cluster and infotainment screen looks odd. The price is so close between these 2 cars but the Mazda has so much more power.
The cvt with the puny 1.5t is the civic downside for that money it has to be Mazda all the way. Have to give Honda credit for that interior very spacious and nice infotainment.

I have a '16 Mazda3 with a rotary knob to control the screen and a volume knob, both in the center console, and I can not fathom why anyone would prefer a touchscreen in a car. I never wipe fingerprints off the screen, never reach to the top of the dash, as the knobs are right under my hand when my elbow is on the armrest, and I never accidentally hit the wrong button when the road is choppy or curvy. The tactile feedback from the controller is excellent, and most of the time I don't need to look at the screen because I can feel the individual clicks from the knob. It's far easier to control than any touchscreen I have ever used on any vehicle, and it only took a few days to get accustomed to. Maybe lack of familiarity makes people prefer touchscreens?

My 2018 Accord 1.5T just had a fuel injector fail at 58k error code P0172 (posted on my channel). It's a good looking car but once the warranty expires you're on your own and you have no idea how expensive modern Honda engines are to fix. Oil changed at 80%, Shell regular used 80% of the time, always did warm up the car in the winter. Dealer so out of touch they recommended brake fluid replacement at 30k. I've never seen this part fail in ANY of my past cars. Should have compared the non turbo Mazda for a true comparison, 250 to 180 they aren’t even in the same league. It just seems like the actual driving experience is worth more than a point.
You gave the Civic so many points just for it's touch screen and driver cluster yet personally I hate touch screens in cars, they are dangerous and dirty area's and the driver cluster on Mazda reads better personally. Mazda do a much better job at making a car that still feels like an older car while giving it all the luxury and features of a new car. I mean that's why people prefer the 6 speed over the CVT and rather have a 2L or 2.5L engine to the 1.5L.

The 3 turbo can’t be compared to any Civic power-wise where it’s well above the Si’s 205 hp but considerably less than the Type R. The 3’s 250 hp is not even in the same segment as the 180 in the Civic. So not taking the Civic win to heart here- I suspect that value verdict will be turned on its head considering its much higher segment power capabilities. Also, as someone who drives a Dodge Ram with touchscreen infotainment for work and a 2019 Mazda3 for personal use, touchscreens in any capacity are far and away more distracting than the HMI setup of the 3. Yes it is a bit of a learning curve for maybe a few days to a week, but once learned you do not even have to take your eyes off the road - the rotary and buttons become muscle memory whereas you always have to follow your finger and watch a touchscreen when selecting. Also, the Civic’s screen isn’t winning in the screen design category by any stretch either nor is its exterior design when compared to the 3. I think this deserves a rematch.
@@chrisjohnson7929 I agree. Ideally it would be nice to see the useable touch screens that lock out when in drive brought back to Mazdas moving forward.
AWD should give Mazda a full 1 point, plus a heated steering wheel full 1 point. Either one you choose, I think you'll be happy with, but for me I'd go Mazda. It looks better to me, plus everyone has a honda but that's for good reason, it's a good car too.
I think a better to compare the Mazda3 with the 186 hp engine versus the civic touring. The Mazda might lose a point in the speed but will gain two points back in the fuel economy and price.
Hi guys, i like ur reviews, this comparison is a very interesting one. I agree with all your criteria but i dont agree with the scores, for example I think the hardware advantages in a car are always more important than the software, you give 1 whole point to the civic for having a few liters more of trunk space and a little more storage, but u only give 0.5 point for important mechanical advantages like the AT, AWD, 3db less road noice etc. it is not fair for the Mazda. The Mazda 3 is really a well rounded product, for me it is at least a tie. BTW here in México the 2023 Mazda 3 turbo is about 21000 USD but the civic touring is nearly 33000! Of course I ordered a Mazda 3 turbo for me and hopefully get it before Christmas 😄
The weighting for the features is a little out of whack. Things like a little extra trunk space is weighted like performance. MPG gets a full number despite the fact that no one really cares that the Mazda costs a little more in gas. Hell its 250HP vs 180HP. The Mazda seems to have the best acceleration by far, handling, and AWD. its 3db quieter which means the Honda is twice as loud. It's much sleeker and sexier. I think the interior looks very nice, basically luxury sport whereas the Honda feels like its trying to look like, well, something from the 70s. In 5 years the Civic is going to look awkward inside.
I have the 2022 Honda Civic hatchback touring. I like it overall but there is some things I hate about it. Biggest dislike is the paint. And I am not the only owner that has this issue. Never had a car get so dirty and scratched up. One owner tested the thickness of the paint and it is very thin. Maybe they did that for the safety tech on it cause if it’s too thick it will not work as well. I don’t drive the Honda very much. Bought it brand new had it for 6 months not even 3k miles on it and already getting scratched nothing major and detailer was easily able to buff it out. I had a base 17 Nissan Sentra never had that issue with the paint and it getting as dirty. Either way you can’t go wrong getting a civic or Mazda 3. What I like about my Civic is the infotainment is much larger display vs the Mazda. I like the digital display on the odometer reader vs normal analog. The honey comb vents is a nice touch too. Overall the cabin in my opinion looks nicer. The hatchback civic looks much better than the sedan version. I get a lot of compliments especially on the wheels look very nice and sporty. Sound system with the Bose is a game changer and very nice sound quality although the amount of money I paid especially with this crazy car market and how popular the car is I paid 3 grand above msrp. So I feel like Honda should have done a better job at the road noise. When you are driving around the city or around town it’s fine but on the interstate you hear everything! Very noisy. The car handles great and fun to drive. I do like how Mazda has awd options and more powerful engine but in my opinion I don’t think it’s necessary with the civic. By no means is it a fast car but for what it is and how light it is it does just fine. It’s odd and I told the dealer normal mode is faster than sport mode he was baffled. I explained normal mode it’s not as controlled as far as power input rpm’s go much higher when I need last second umf on the road. Vs sport mode even though it’s called sport mode it doesn’t mean you get more power. Especially using the paddle shifters it wants to shift gears to quickly and won’t hold it as long as compared to normal mode like it goes to 3 on the rpm reading and immediately wants to shift. So not a big deal. Sport mode is a lot smoother though for that reason. And maybe they did that for fuel efficiency idk but computer just won’t let you do what you wanna do. Not a huge deal I just leave it in normal. Overall though it’s a nice car just a pain to keep it clean. Really needs to be garaged but I don’t have that luxury. But yeah there’s something’s I like better in the civic vs Mazda like leg room space and there’s USB port in back. And something’s I like better on Mazda. You can’t go wrong either way. I think it’s easier to find the Mazda vs civic though. Last time I was at Honda dealer few days ago they didn’t have any. They only had 2 new cars on that lot. The dealer can’t keep them as soon as they arrive they are gone. I was lucky I found mine. But yeah civic handles really really well. Honda is known for making solid transmission fwd vehicles and probs one of the best. There’s times where you can be stupid and just gun it and drive like a maniac and the car will correct itself and gain control. Great on turns and twisty roads. Not sure if I’ll keep this one at the end of my lease but will see. Overall I’m happy with it just a few minor issues. Once my lease is up might consider a Mazda.I wish my Honda had cooled seats and rear heated seats. Most of its competitors like the Elantra has had that for years. The amount of money you pay for it just feel like it should have a little bit more but overall you can’t go wrong. The civic car has a solid engine and will last for 30 plus years. Maybe it’s just me knit picking but yeah both cars overall you can’t go wrong just a matter of what brand you want really.
mazda is more sophisticated and more elegant more classy than honda, mazda is not trying to be what the generic sedan all trying to be packed with tons of features, but instead mazda just want you to enjoy the drive and not distracted by those touch screen and tons of buttons and what not, mazda only wnats you to enjoy the drive
What worries me about the Honda is that my 2018 Accords infotainment system shuts off and resets while driving. Im considering trading it in for something smaller. Maybe its time to go Mazda?

I really like these simple comparison and tour videos. This is the reason I subscribed..

I test drove a Mazda 3 sedan yesterday. It was the preferred trim with AWD. As a 5+ year owner of a 2016 Mazda 3 hatchback I-Touring manual 2.0, here are my thoughts:
Impressive torque off the line! Feels quicker than mine, everywhere.
Very quiet and the suspension was much more supple, again than my 2016
I didn’t like the steering wheel shape.

The muscle memory aspect is actually a really good point that I didn't think of.
Touch screens should be banned. (or at least locked out when the car is in gear)

I think a better to compare the Mazda3 with the 186 hp engine versus the civic touring. The Mazda might lose a point in the speed but will gain two points back in the fuel economy and price.
Not really, it still loses to the civic, just not as bad
I bought the 22 civic sport..This is my second car, first one was 2009 civic sport.. guess I’m just a Honda guy!!!!
I bought the civic, considered the Mazda but really wanted touchscreen and better fuel economy.
Amazing and stellar as usual
❤️Mazda Hands Down❤️
Thank you for the video. I needed this to decide which car I want to buy.
Glad to help! Thanks!
Mazda all the way
mazda is more sophisticated and more elegant more classy than honda, mazda is not trying to be what the generic sedan all trying to be packed with tons of features, but instead mazda just want you to enjoy the drive and not distracted by those touch screen and tons of buttons and what not, mazda only wnats you to enjoy the drive
What worries me about the Honda is that my 2018 Accords infotainment system shuts off and resets while driving. Im considering trading it in for something smaller. Maybe its time to go Mazda?
I only drove a 05 Honda Civic and a few times a 2018 Civic. So far I’ve been thinking moving to Mazda too.
As much as I love the civic, I think this latest generation is too pricey. You might as well just go for an accord if you're considering a top level civic. At least the Mazda 3 Turbo is pretty quick compared to the civic.
In terms of interiors the Mazda is in another category specifically the double tone leather, are on BMW and Mercedes Benz status.
Most people don’t know their civic is one wheel lol drive let alone what is driving dynamic 😂 I love my Mazda 3 turbo though. I’ll never go back to Honda.
Went with the Civic EX, same engine as the Touring and quite a bit cheaper. So far it's been fantastic!
How much did you end up paying?
My dealer over here has a 1000 dollar markup on the EX
@@sagarshah6616 MSRP, was very happy with our Honda dealer, they and the local Toyota dealer are the only ones in the are not demanding extra. Instead they are stocking a lot of used cars to keep busy.
@@MarbsMusic what dealer did you purchase from ?
@@NoodlesGoodTaste Honda World in AR
Great comparo, because not everyone would even know that both cars are in the same class and may not consider both as an option.
