HAPPY BELATED , PROFESSOR MARK MOTHERSBAUGH !!!!!!, AND REST IN PEACE , ALAN MYERS, GREAT DRUMMER OF DEVO , I BELIVE THIS ALAN LAST ALBUM ON DEVO !!!! GOD SPEED ALAN !
Damn, if Devo encore tomorrow night in Manchester by floating around in their R U Experienced suits, I'll just shit. I forgot just how wonderful this video was!
True it would have been nice For DEVO to have taken more Videos from The Shout album DEVO was to host ,the New year Party on MTV 1984 And The Shout album Tour Was cancelled unfortunately?
If You're going to cover someone else's music, You must do all You can to make the song Your own. DEVO managed to do that very well with Satisfaction and this song. As for this video, it has to be one of the stranger and better ones made in the 80's.
let' hear ! three cheers for DEVO ,DEVO ,DEVO !, Duty Now For The Future!, and DEVO is the next future legends to be voted in the rock and roll hall of fame !
Most people never got DEVO. I think them covering this song was thier furtive way of saying "hey, btw, did you ever happen to trip on us? Yeah, we're good like that." And they really, really were one hell of a trip to "experience," if you catch my drift. Meh, no one drops acid anymore, I guess.
This is one of the most awesome videos from one of the best bands (and most underappreciated) ever. Now, can we get a good copy of Penetration in the Centerfold somewhere?
I guess if I was the Hendrix family, I would have been taken aback by Jimi's resurrection, but it was both done with good humor and respect. Jimi Hendrix's second coming is something many of us mutants would like to see.
Like a old sci-fi B-Movie with the classic rocker of Jimmi Hendrix being brought to life by "Peace Radiation", and only Devo could stop it with their 50's Future tech. Take it as what you will, I wanna see Devo in their own Music Video Movie. Also, the dude's shoulder moves strangely. It's... weird, about as strange as them floating like balloons and Jimmi Hendrix coming back to life. Still good music.
Mark has the first version of Google glasses on his face here... they were testing it back in the 80's!! And while Hendrix would have loved this... apparently Hendrix's father did not and when they tried to rerelease Shout, they denied letting Devo use it.
I am with you. I alway asked my mother why they looked like they did. Then she told me where to get the album with “Whip It” and have been hooked, ever since. And Mark Mothersbaugh did a theme on Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.
My Fellow Americans 🇺🇸 USA and TRUE American Patriots Values 🇺🇸 USA I'm so very proud of This Bright Young Music Group DEVO who had their Plastic hair style just like Mines pomp and GOD Bless America 🇺🇸 USA
Nice work Gadgetman! I saw this ONCE on t.v. back in the day (1983?) & then never again until now - it's actually BETTER than I remember. Those ridiculous self-inflating costumes remind me of Vic Reeves strangle enough (anyone else get that?).
Because this wasn’t on the Truth About De-Evolution DVD I got when I was 12, it was kind of like this forbidden video for several years, and then I somehow caught it on VH1 Classics, which was amazing. After that, I kept checking the channel whenever I got a chance, hoping I’d somehow see it again. Now I can just watch it on RUclips.
-Jimi loved THE GOON SHOW from BBC radio back in the fifties -The idea of him cackling (probably in a cool New York accent) at Spike Milligan & Peter Sellar`s crazy surreal comedy is a timeless image.
clearly the director of "True Detective" season 2, based the creepy plastic surgeon (who is none other than Rick Springfield) on this incarnation of DEVO, who i will love til i die
I DISAGREE, THIS WAS THE THAT BROKE NEW SONDS GROUNDS , AND WITH THE HELP FROM JIM MOTHERSBAUGH , HE IS THE BROTHER OF MARK AND BOB 1, WITH THE HELP OF THE FAIRLIGHT COMPUTER KEYBROAD,, THIS SHOUT LP WAS GREAT FOR TOP 40 RADIO AIR PLAY, ESPESCALLY THE SONG PUPPET BOY,SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LONG 12 INCH VERSION FOR THE DANCE CLUBS , YES THE SHOUT LP WAS AHEAD OF TIME,, DEVO WAS TO PERFORM SOME THE SONGS ON THE MTV NEW YEARS BALL SHOW , AND YES ON THE SHOUT TOUR DRUMMER ALAN MYERS WAS TO USE TWO ,
It's obvious why the estate put the kibosh on this vid.I'm a big Devo fan,and I do wish this was on the DVD,but I repect thier pov. He's an icon to us but to the Hendrix family he's a son or brother.I don't think the Hendrix family are big fans of Dadaism,so they wouldn't "get it". Reading those comments, it seems to me that i'm obliged to CHOOSE between 60's and 80's. That's stupid. Hendrix is amazing and so is Devo. Both contributed greatly to music. I understand Devo's critics. And I keep being a 60-lover, hippie-wannabe.

Just as Mick Jagger once said that DEVO's cover of "Satisfaction" was his favorite version, I'm sure Jimi Hendrix would have found this mind-blowing.
You've got to be kidding me. Both covers are unlistenable garbage.
❤️ So true!
how can anyone be pissed at this?!?! they brought jimmy back from the dead. we should bow down before this.
Classic DEVO!!! DEVO farewell to J.Hendrix...
Very Good! Funny, criative, fantastic!!!
Devo is forever, we are all devolutionized, whether we admit it or not....are we not men? We are Devo.

"It's a flying saucer. Goodbye."
I don't know why that makes me laugh so much.
Yeah it's great
As a child of the 80s, I am ashamed to say I've never heard or seen this cover until today! And I'm 54 years old.
One of my favourite videos.
When Jimi pops out the coffin and all the little blond haired drones sway in the crowd, c'est vraiment magnifique.
Wow I have never seen this video. This was great. Thank for putting this up. Wish it was on the DVD
Amen, this is pure gold. One of the coolest and most avant garde music videos out there.
Damn, if Devo encore tomorrow night in Manchester by floating around in their R U Experienced suits, I'll just shit. I forgot just how wonderful this video was!
Truly great video, back when videos mattered.
Devo es la banda pionera en la videomusica
Bob's mean look at 01:33 priceless... lol
wow.... i had three of these guys albums and i never knew they had dun a jimi hendrix cover...CRAZZZZZZYYY man

Or "It takes a worried man" they had fun with that one, too.
Oldbmwr100rs Where does that song originate from, anyway? I know they didn't write it, but I have no idea who did.

Hey, this is a pretty good version of the song.

Hold your horses there mister! I still drop acid! And when I drop acid. The acid lifts me up

this is the best cover of this song , done by Jimi Hendrix, and made excellent by the great DEVOS, what a work of art .
Haha, DEVOS?
DEVO!!!
A very interesting take on Jimi's classic

Saw this at Flamingo Club in Halifax during the darkness of the early 1980's. The Afghani was super-good!
Hands down my all-time favorite music video. Techno and trippy at the same time.
Nothing beats the original, but you gotta admit that this is pretty trippy.
This comes very close, I actually kinda prefer this one tho!
It does beat it

Thank you OP. You have brought back pleasant memories and made my day.

In the Devo version of this song, the Linn LM-1 was heard.
The blonde groupies remind me of Village of the Damned.
The 2 kids at the end are the offspring of one or more members of DEVO
I know the relationship between Devo and Jimi Hendrix.
It's 'Jimmy Lynch-that Funky Tramp in a nightclub'(1961). but doesn't everyone know that?
I dunno why but for some reason this video blew the living shit out of my mind as a 21 year old.

Yeah, 'Shout!' was probably the worst of the first era, but that video is one of the best, no doubt. The lava lamp Sonny Bono suits are GOLD.
they are really quite good huh?
Beer came out of my nose the first time I saw this with Jimi coming out of his coffin to play the solo. Such sacrilege!
So when is Jimi Hendrix gonna cover Devo? :) Whip It?
That would have been an exceptional cover
🤣🤣🤣
I think it was released on the original Laserdisc collection. The Hendrix estate wouldn't allow them to rerelease it on their DVD...
They've never been gone...
Around that time, quicker upper CC scooters were popular.....Devo did a commercial for HONDA.
