Hahahaha oh you’re crazy man, I love this
I liked Manowar until they went on tour with their Pedophile guitar player rather than cancel or kick him out, and the band and fans just put their heads in the sand.
Oh wait, I never liked Manowar.
Powermetal is He-man and skeletor form of metal combined with odin and thor
You really should have watched the video for dawn of the dragonstar from twilight force. It's amazing.
It’s all about the busty narrator with the Cleveland aaaacent (it’s me). Lol. I’m dying laughing at this. What a great time we had and to see it pop up 10 years later is awesome!
Finn: power metal is cringe and for nerds and europeans
Also Finn: uses a ton a rpg vocabulary, nerds about physical rpg games and gives the most detailed and enthusiastic descriptions in all of youtube when promoting Raid Shadow Legends 😂
One day we will discover he is German 🤣
Guess I’m a nerd and European then cause I love that ish
Well, I'm European, I speak German and I partly live in a German speaking country (I'm not German tho), I love PC RPGs (especially baldur's gate 2) and I fucking hate power metal.
There are different types of nerds though hes a type for sure all of us are a little bit.

100% this! I love power metal, and nobody I know of (myself included) takes it that seriously. It's just good, dumb fun. Saw Sabaton and Hammerfall live. Hoping to someday see Freedom Call, Helloween, and Alestorm.
😁😁😁
Power metal is just the musical embodiment of “I am cringe… but I am free.”
It’s true but I still love it all the same. Us power metal fans are more self aware than some music fandoms. Plus it’s just pure fun listening to fantasy inspired music in my opinion
IN THE NAME OF ALL DUNDEEEE!!
This reeks of “Stop having fun guys!” 😂
For real.
Nah, it’s “Have fun, but don’t be cringey.”

Finn is so steeped in irony that I honestly can’t tell if he’s dead serious or loves power metal
I think we can acknowledge the power Metal is both cringe and fun at the same time
Us power metal fans know our music is cringe, but we're just having fun drinking and talking to women that don't judge us for our undiagnosed autism.
Shiiiit, I always saw more women at power metal shows than I ever would at any other metal genre's show. But that was in the mid '00s/early '10s. Now they are all at the Dopesmoker/Windhand show. Lol

I listen to a lot of Power Metal when I go out with my friends. Just sets the tone for me.

Finn is a closet power metal fan. He's like a "straight man" who loudly denounces homosexuality only to get caught with his male secretary in a Denny's bathroom.
Well fin, one day someone is going to catch you listening to twilight force in truck stop bathroom. Then you'll be exposed for what you really are.

There's a difference between liking something and turning it into your whole personality. Most people who listen to power metal turn it into their personality.
I never really gave power metal the time of day because of how dumb it sounds in principle. . . But this video just convinced that power metal totally rules ass. Every dig he takes only reinforces how rad it actually is

@ghost mall
No. Nobody likes cringe.
@ghost mall Sorry, I just got really tired that people are buying Finn's take on the genre, so I apologize for the response. I can see that these guys in the thread were just having fun.
@ghost mall Not as ridiculous as Finn makes it out to be. There are plenty of other bands that would've been better picks like Blind Guardian, Helloween (maybe their more aggressive stuff with Andi Deris), Jag Panzer, and also Stratovarius.
I went to a Sabaton show on 2016 with a buddy of mine and to this day it was the most fun I've had at a show. By far the best community in metal as far as I'm concerned.
same thing happened to me, their fandom was so awesome and the atmosphere was so fun ngl, even if i didn’t like the music
I saw them open for amon amarth in like 2014 or something they where a lot of fun, made a lot of good jokes, super self depreciating and humble.
I have seen 100s of metal bands and Sabaton is by far one of the most fun.
I LOVE Sabaton. Their music taught me so much history, And I just love the way they make their music. Oh, and they helped me with my depression and the band makes me so happy whenever I hear a song.
If people were open-minded to listen to Power Metal (Leaving the cringe aside), they will realize that it is such a wonderful sub-genre.

I love the references to role-playing games, comics, and all kinds of other stuff I'm into.

You can tell by the sound of Finn's voice that he's got a passport full of stamps.
I think this is mostly true but for me power metal isn’t a guilty pleasure. I just enjoy it. I love most genres of rock and metal. I like Finn’s opinion even when, and possibly especially when, it differs from my own. I think it’s good to engage with different views and opinions when it’s done in a playful way Finn does it. There certainly is lots of butt hurt out there in comment land when Finn trashes their music.

Thanks Helloween and Manowar for comin up with the basic concepts of Power Metal, it IS one of the most emotionally uplifting genres in existence. And, well, even in the hayday of my Manowar fanboyism I did cringe over Gloves of metal and actually find Hammerfall's Hearts of Fire really bland, Blood Bound is much better.
The wise based man is that who accepts the cringe and enjoys it.
The unwise cringe man is that who calls what he doesn't enjoy cringe.
Fun fact on Twilight Force: the booklet in their first album shows their characters with a brief discription and even their Level, stats and Items! Fucking epic!
Another honorable mention: the Song Unholy Warcry by Rhapsody has an intro with a poorly green screened Sir Christopher Lee (yes, the real one), who even sang another song with them.
It gets even better. Christopher Lee went on to make his own band.
I saw them for the first time when they were on tour with Dragonforce when I was 16, my first ever metal concert!!! So amazing!
Also one of the BEST “so bad it’s good” music videos
Wholesome band and really nice people from when I briefly met them in Denmark in January. I love them and they know they are a bit silly.

Manowar is for kings of life
Yeah, that explains the sold out Sabaton/Hammerfall I show I went to in Atlanta. The crowd for that show was extremely diverse and was not full of "nerds" as you call it. In terms of merchandising they are approaching Kiss levels. Also, I have had the most fun at power metal shows and that's all that matters honestly. The fans are passionate and devoted to their favorites. Musicianship is top notch as well.
How big was the venue? 200 capacity?

Dude, it's all Dio via Iron Maiden. Lots of melody and Maiden gallops. Swords and sorcery. Lots of high vocals too. It's been the bastard child of metal since the mid 80s. Excellent .
If you want to listen to a complete Maiden rip off, listen to Wishdoom, a Greek power metal band.
I'll admit I get into phases of really enjoying power metal, it's Total cringe but I'll be damned if it isn't loads of fun hahaha. (Lots of really talented musicians too to be fair)
Yeah same here. I think i've seen Powerwolf live like 6 times or so

Power metal really isn't my thing, but having gone through 2 years of having no/severely limited shows, going to a Sabaton concert in Europe has become a bucket list thing for me. Some middle aged Swedes singing about fallen heroes while playing drums on a tank with flames and shit sounds like so much fun.
I was gonna see them in September opening for Judas Priest, but they postponed the show so it was bust 😞
I saw them live once. They're probably a lot of fun if you're into them specifically but I think their music is boring and their stage presence doesn't make it better. Still better than some of the stuff Finn showed here though.
Honestly, Sabaton shows are amazing. Been to them 3 times, and going again in March when they're playing with The Hu (That Mongolian throat-singing metal band), and Lordi (yes, THAT Lordi). It will be cheesy, but a hell of a party, and no one will leave without a grin on their face.
Yeah like I went to Amon Amarth once (different I know) but still a cool show with vikings, swords and fire everywhere
They also have a tri-plane organ with a propeller that spins as you play
honestly, it kinda is cringe, but that's part of the appeal and there's serious potential for just making fun music in the genre. personally i just recently fell in love with Gloryhammer, because they took the larp to a whole new level basically creating their own ridiculous lore behind the band and their world.
Still incel music...
Yeah I never listen to this stuff but it looks sounds entertaining for some. There's a lot of effort here. Finn's banter is hilarious... I got into some power metal bands during a massive depressive episode because it was so positive and upbeat. It was much better for me than listening to that than my usual music. I can't argue against power metal being the spindly armed LARP nerd of metal, but Hunting High and Low, by Strativarius, and the first Sonata Arctica and Rhapsody albums will always have a place in my heart.
Power Metal itself isn't cringe but many power metal bands are cringe. But also many are great like Kamelot, Iced Earth, Nocturnal Rites, Blind Guardian, Early Helloween, Symphony X, etc.... I don't really see how anybody could think these bands are cringe but I could understand someone not being into them
Finn's the perfect person to talk about this genre lmao, all the RPG references. All I can imagine when listening to power metal is getting a quest to kill 20 wolves in the woods, and receive a pair of leather gloves and 10 gold from the dude at the Inn. 10/10
I lived with a power metal guitarist back in 07. Him and all of his friends were absolute intellectuals, just ask them.
That sounds like pure cringe and shocking they also weren't Tool Fan's
@@ogvelociraptor205 I can respect Tool fans and Tool more in general because at least they have their own distinct sound. I can't tell the difference between most power metal bands.
Honestly, I don't hate the genre. It's incredibly silly, the fanbase left a bad taste in my mouth is all.
@@ogvelociraptor205 I'll admit Tool's songs are about some pretty deep wild shit & for the most part it's cool the 1st ten times u hear what's it's about until they run it into the ground. And just because the members of Tool do seem fairly intelligent doesn't mean you're intelligent for listening to it
@@ogvelociraptor205 hey man, I’m a massive fan of Tool and I know there’s a lot of their fanbase that sucks absolute dog balls. That being said, I don’t think it’s fair to criticize the band itself for the ugliness of its fans. In my experience, the vast majority of the fans who are insufferable don’t actually get what Tool are about even when they think they do. They get all caught up in the metaphysicals and intellectual bs (that they never would’ve learned on their own had it not been directly related to a rock band) and they forget the most important part of Tools message or purpose… don’t take yourself, life, or shit in general so fucking seriously. They’ve always infused a great deal of humor into what they do as a way of saying please don’t take us seriously because we don’t take ourselves seriously. I do however think the care and attention they’ve poured into their work along with the undeniable impact they’ve had on the world is to be respected.
TL-DR: Most of their fans do suck because they lack self awareness. But don’t let it tarnish the opportunity to have your own experience with the band. Independent thought is what they’ve championed their whole career.
Problems with this vid (I'M NOT SAYING IT'S NOT FUN) :
- Hardly any mention of the music itself.
- Power metal stopped massively producing quality stuff in, more or less the 2000s. Every example in this vid is either too early (1983 Manowar) or too late (all the rest).
- US power metal is completely different from European power metal. You could argue it's a lot more serious.
- Early Manowar are not power metal, they are simply heavy metal. Their first, technically, power metal Album is triumph of steel (1992). It could be argued that power metal would not exist without manowar doing their thing, though.
- Critiquing a 1983 low budget vid in 2021 is very much out of context, although manowar do have cringy elements throughout their whole career. However, WHAT ABOUT THE MUSIC?
- To be fair to anyone who reads this, Manowar are my fav band, I was all about power metal in the 90s, but then the genre pretty much died IMHO. Last PM band that really blew my mind was Lost Horizon, and that's more than 20 years ago.
I think this guy is just plain slow lol... can't even get his genres straight... i'm not even a metalhead and I know full well most of these bands aren't power metal

All correct. The guy is a joke and has no idea what he's talking about
Power Metal got me to fall in love with metal all over again. For me anyhow, it took many metal tropes I found a bit "cringe" and flipped 'em around and made it fun again.
power metal is one of my fav types of music, its so dumb and goofy that its impossible to take seriously but thats a huge reason why i enjoy it so much. Its just simple fun that you cant help but smile to after a shitty day at work. I'd like to think that most of these bands and all the fans are self aware they have to be.
Yeah it's cringey but at least the fans of the genre let themselves live a little. Most fans of other metal genres are so insecure that they never let themselves have any fun.
I remember being 10 and getting a DragonForce CD from Walmart, and my dad was shocked when I put it in the CD player; he legit thought it was a PS1 RPG.
I understand that Power Metal is a very niche subgenre of metal, but for those who love it, the difference it makes in our lives is unparalleled to other genres when it comes to uplifting your spirit and bringing you out of the darkness and i cant really explain it myself and i apologize, but it got me through some of my darkest times and i’m sure others can relate to it too. Ive been listening to it since i discovered it in high school and will continue beyond the physical plane 💪🏽😎
Not only Europeans... Asian here, we fucking love Power metal. we don't care 😃 more POWER to us.
The more you showcase power metal, the more I like it. Therapy bill is in the mail brah.
Sabaton and amaranthe go hard on nuclear blast records out of sweden
Went to a show feat. dragonforce 10-15 years ago and they did the drinking a beer while shredding thing and I could unironically tell those dudes were going places. What I like about power metal is the fantasy gimmick is imagery we’re all at least somewhat familiar with that can easily create a narrative that isn’t about sulking and hatred. It reminds me of Saturday morning cartoons in the early 90’s when shredding was the intro of a bunch of the best cartoons. power ranger metal bruh
Power Ranger Metal!!
DragonForce will always have a place in my heart as one of the first bands that really introduced me to metal.
Or He-Man metal 👀
Yes, the positivity is a cool thing about power metal. It ticks two of Finn’s favorite boxes for appealing music: being fun and providing escapism. Sure, you can’t aspire to be a fantasy hero in the same way that you could aspire to be a rich, dangerous rapper or a sexy, badass bitch, like recent chart-toppers. However, it definitely is a lot more fun to think about than yet another song about feeling hopeless in the face of one’s inner demons over a bunch of djenting in a colored room. It’s a more niche and extreme way of escaping from the real world.
Also, DragonForce is one of my favorite bands.
I saw DragonForce live when "Through the Fire and Flames" was going viral.
They were great, having fun on stage, and hyping up the audience!
But of course, my "extreme metal only" friends began cringing loudly because; too cheesy... But I know that they secretly liked it🤭
I don't think you've heard the best examples. I would recommend looking up music from Blind Guardian, Iced Earth (combining it with thrash metal), maybe even Helloween, Iron Savior, or Stratovarius. Like HammerFall, they're also considered definitive, but I'd say you'll get plenty of music that is *NOT* cringe. They're also very light on themes, so you won't really have to expect insane visuals. And no, _dragon_ and _throne_ are NOT mentioned in every song of the genre.
I'd also include include Helstar, Liege Lord, Vicious Rumors (at least their earlier stuff), and maybe even Attacker. Again, you don't have to do a ton of what I commented, but maybe some of them could be a lot better for your taste than Sabaton or Manowar (which is already considered a joke, compared to plenty of other power metal bands).
Don't forget Helloween, one of the OG's and they don't really go into the whole fantasy thing. (Also edguy because they're legitimately hilarious)

I didn't bring them up because I thought that band would still be in the same kind of music that Finn brings up in terms of cringe, even though I don't feel the same. I'll edit it in the comment now.
Iron angel and warrant from germany are my favorite power metal bands
Stratovarius! I love nemesis! One of my fave albums of all time
Sabaton and Manowar are barely power metal but honestly those 2 are the easiest to take seriously. Sabaton sings about stuff that actually happened in real life and Manowar can just be motivational as hell
How do i get one of those Alternate Reality rash guards?
its cringe but power metal shows are amazing. The vibe, talent and showmanship is levels above other genres of metal.
reasons I call power metal, fun metal and cheese metal
Sabaton had the most Murica audience in shows I've been to
My experience with power metal fans is that they are self-aware and unabashedly love every stereotype you are describing. There actually is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek vibe but in a super extreme way. They give a mighty and triumphant chuckle when a dual guitar harmonized lead rips through because it’s simultaneously cliche/corny and awesome.
Finn called one of my favorite genres cringe. I now bear eternal shame and must take up my sword of power and quest for redemption
Manowar is hands down the best concert I've ever been to (hilariously, I was in Germany at the time). That shit was so loud that the bassist could launch us off the floor. They also have the most epic cover art in the history of nonsense.
Lol. Is this for comedy or do you really listen Manowar without irony or humor?
Finn is trying his hardest to channel his inner Beavis and Butthead on this subject.
I'm not a fan of power metal, but, I appreciate their passion. Keep doing what you're doing kings
The only thing that sucks about being an American power metal fan is that the good bands rarely come over here
Symphony X? Their American and one of the best in the whole genre, top 5 band of all time for me
Really? Because most people who are dressed like that are typically into death metal, anime ost or screamo music to which I've actually met those people and that's what they listen to. I don't know where you got that mental image, but yeah I know who you're talking about.
As for cringe, I hear a lot of cringe crap coming from modern music that power met doesn't come off as cringe. I see this as just another hot take rant about who can call whose music "cringe." I see power metal as the next step to where 80s metal was going.
I mean we can throw hot takes all day at music that's cringe, but power metal is fine and far less cringe than whatever pop/country/ kpop/modern mainstream rock garbage.
I've seen Sabaton twice lol. All of my favorite metal bands come from the UK, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany. Europe has the best Heavy Metal sub-genres: Power Metal, Speed Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Symphonic Metal etc.
I've also seen Sabaton twice and I'll be damned if I don't see them a 3rd time!
European metal is awesome. I'm glad you finally talked about this, despite not liking it, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it. It's fun music and very skilled musicians. Sometimes I prefer the darker, emotionally heavy content of other types of metal, but sometimes that fantasy stuff from D&D really hits the spot. I'm a rouge/assassin in my current campaign - so yes, I embrace my nerdiness and it's a lot of fun. "And then there was silence" by Blind Guardian was my introduction to power metal. Still one of the best songs in the genre.
Spotify still tells me that punk is still my most listened to genre but there is just so much different fun and awesome music to access through modern technology. I think it's just such a great time to be a music lover with the musical buffet that exists with such easy access.
Actually, there's a more aggressive kind of power metal particularly from bands in the USA.
You know why the washed up bands play Europe? The scene over there never gave up on bands like W.A.S.P. I'd rather be at a show pumping my fists in the air singing along with a catchy chorus and catchy solo then worried if some ass hole is going to slam into me and form a mosh pit. Great bands such as Bloodbound and Nightwish can play in standard D Tuning and still makes the song sound really good and melodic where most of the American bands who have to play as fast as they can and have to scream or growl through out the song. Power Metal in my opinion picked up the banner for the 80's scene that got lost when bands like Soundgarden and Nirvana came out. Long hair, leather and gauntlets look way cooler than short hair and straight baseball hats.
Nightwish is so damn Overrated... Accept is much better
Europeans would listen to anything, and americans doesn´t even know, where the europe is..
I'm from Europe and been watching his videos for years now. But lately, the European-bashing gets annoyingly frequent. Finn should rather stick to facts, than spit out those unfounded stereotypes that do nothing than introduce tribalism and add nothing of value.
No, I'm no power metal fan. But European.
Music styles and opinions regarding those, I'm all in - but to mix those with europe-bashing is cheap and unnecessary. We have many more genres with subsequent scenes, and while I don't enjoy power metal, I appreciate the variety of genres that can thrive here. If anyone can't, please, spend some time in Europe and decide afterwards for yourself.
Europeans always proving the “can’t take a joke” stereotype to be true 😍
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA I don't think you get that intent is different than impact. If you're making a joke and someone is hurt by it, then you need to take responsibility for it. Would you let it slide if someone was inappropriate to your wife and then said "chill it's just a joke"? Don't dismiss the criticism and use it to grow.
@@AxeMain but theres a difference between explicitly making a joke, and being inappropriate to someones wife and then saying "it was just a joke" when they get mad.
We as Europeans can sleep easy by the fact that we all think that bro-country sucks and no one here knows any of the artists that the US is going wild for.
Also rap/hip-hop is much less populair over here. All the big festivals either play rock/metal or EDM and makes them great

European here and I admit that power metal is really cringy, but that's exactly why it's so beloved! Nobody takes it seriously except for Manowar and even if most of the genre is really bad there are some bands that write legit great songs like Versailles, Helloween, Nightwish and Unleash the Archers.
I'd also recommend Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica (some of their songs are pretty sad in terms of lyrics), Jag Panzer, and Blind Guardian.
At a secret santa party in high school a friend's boyfriend basically only knew that I'm into death metal and he got me a Manowar best of compilation. I felt so disrespected.
Hammerfall is the reason I got full sleeve tattoos. I was on the toilet reading some metal magazine and their singer was on the cover with crossed, tattooed arms. I came out of the toilet and showed it to my mum and said "i will look like this one day"
Sabaton is very popular in my country (Czech Republic) because Joakim´s mother is from former Czechoslovakia. Because of his double citizenship (both Swedish and Czech) he is also regularly nominated in Český Slavík (Czech Nightingale) which is the most milk toast white music contest that you can imagine and that is hilarious as fuck.
The way you said “In my country’
I read all this in borat voice
I've seen a lot of videos criticizing power metal, and yes, there's indeed a LOT to criticize (even from the perspective of a long-time power metal fan myself), but I've never seen such a gross example of blatant cherry-picking. For one thing, Manowar is a laughing stock even among us power metal fans - think of it like how most metalheads make fun of Limp Bizkit. Hammerfall hasn't had any real following among the power metal community since the 2000s, if not earlier. Hardly representative of modern power metal. I've never even heard of Rumahoy or Alternate Reality, but based on the clips shown, and based on what FInn was saying about it, it comes off as an absolutely disingenuous critique of power metal, like he intentionally picked the worst bands he could find to put on stream. It's like if I critiqued traditional heavy metal and used "Modern DarkAge" by GraveDanger as my only example.
I think the only valid points he made here were about Twilight Force. They're legitimately super cheesy and have a sizable following, and they actually represent one aspect of the modern trends of power metal (emphasis on ONE aspect!). But even if it is cheesy, so what? Using the example that Finn makes of a person that spends all year designing a Halloween costume, what does it matter to anyone if they find purpose or joy in it and don't cause harm to anyone else?
But back to the point I made earlier about cherry-picking, I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of representation of other power metal groups that don't just spew pure cheese. A band like Seven Spires immediately comes to mind. I also would have liked to see examples of bands that do have some cheese, but still show true authenticity and legitimately great songwriting, like Avantasia, Stratovarius, (early) Sonata Arctica, Gamma Ray, Dragonland, Edguy, and SO much more.
I hate having to write up something like this, since I usually really enjoy Finn's work, especially on The Punk Rock MBA. But this is just not even remotely a good or even informed take on power metal as a whole. If you're going to critique power metal, do it - I do it all the time, again, even as a long-time fan of the stuff - just make sure you actually do your homework and don't use the most stereotypical of stereotypical power metal bands as your whipping boys, please.
Deep breaths my man! It’s all in good fun. You gotta loosen up
Power Metal is like pizza. Always cheesy and even the lowest tier is still good, especially during a late night RP session. \m/
2:40 maybe, in EU, we are just more open-minded in terms of music 😂😂
Yeah, it's really ironic how he says we would like anything, but at the same time, we're way more likely to give honest thoughts and feedback. Maybe Americans cherrypick their bands more, but once they have found them, they hold on to them and defend them like an army of brainless fans even when they release shitty albums.
@@FairyCRat As an American, I kinda agree with this, and i am probably guilty of it sometimes.
Europeans has more good taste in music than their American counterparts
Finn, you’re amazing at explaining the history and appeal of underappreciated genres and artists, but whenever you talk about whether something is good or bad, I disagree with about 80% of your takes. That wouldn’t be a problem if it didn’t come across as hypocritical.
In much better videos than this one, you talk about how gatekeeping is bad and that if a scene is popular, there must be something to appreciate about it. Then in a stream like this, you trash an entire genre based on its most superficial elements. It’s every bit as dismissive as 2008 metal journalists trashing Bring Me the Horizon because of their haircuts.
I’m not saying you need to like power metal. It’s obviously ridiculous, even if it includes a few good bands. But as a fairly popular RUclipsr, you should be a little careful not to turn into a gatekeeper yourself.
Bro, they're jokes. You can't go through life wound up this tight
New here?
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA your complete utter hate for stoners is definitely no joke though lmao
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA (fake cries in camera and goes on emo rant about why their feelings are hurt and sets this song to nonexistent myspace page because…emo feelings 😂 Jokes aside, Finn, how would you fix this music video? I think Alestorm REALLY missed out on an opporunity. ruclips.net/video/th4Czv1j3F8/видео.html
I mean... 11:03
I secretly love power metal. It gives my ears a break from all the screaming I normally listen to.
Never liked or understood power metal, but during lockdown I absolutely loved DragonForce's parody "write a song in an hour" videos in the style of other bands (like Sabaton etc). Made me realise that those bands actually think it's as silly and cringey as we do - they're just capitalising on it because they can!
80s power metal is practically an entire different genre than this dweeb trash he showcases. Omen, Jag Panzer, Savage Grace, Manilla Road, etc do not have ridiculous sterile production and overtly dorky themes.
When you aren't sure if Finn is being serious or not.
I think he was serious in the same way that he did the butt rock tier list.
the REAL question is, what ISN'T cringe?
In life or in power metal? Power metal is just completely cringe. That’s a necessity to sound as corny as possible.
I usually like your content but this just proves that the "core" America with their "sludgiest" breakdowns does not have a faintest idea what power/heavy/speed metal actually is :) Totally inappropriate bands selected, Edguy, Blind Guardian, Avantasia project, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius etc, where are these sir? Nonetheless, have a good weekend ;)
Yup! 🙌🏼 You are 100% right! I commented something similar but I missed Avantasia even tho I probably love this project more than the other bands... I thought of it as more symphonic metal than power but it is more power... I don't know what was I thinking...🤘🏼👌🏻
Power Metal is the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino from Starbucks, way too sweet and cheesy, but damn it’s good
"Hes also probably german"
Classic Finn. Always finds a way to make fun of Europeans 🤣🤣
I am always a little hurt because i think he does mean it 😭
@@surfingthedarkness Yeah, I feel the same honestly.
And us Europeans always make jokes about Americans 🤷🏼♂️
@@henning14 well, yeah, but much more than that we adoooore the U.S.
@@surfingthedarkness as a teenager I did but these days I lost that fascination and rather live somewhere else
I fucking love Power Metal! But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
So here I am checking out at a gas station with this video still playing in my AirPods. Then out of nowhere I hear “you have this beautiful wench” and I started uncontrollably laughing out of nowhere which made the cashier super uncomfortable..thanks Finn 😂 seriously one of your most funny videos.
Unrelated to this video, but would love to hear your thoughts on Legion of Doom and their mashups of emo/screamo and indie rap from the 2000s. Seems like something you’d have been into?
Pagefire made a glorious video called "How to make Power Metal" I personally don't like power metal, but the scene doesn't take itself too serious in comparison to let's say black metal and is not only admitting to be part of nerd culture but also embracing it without the gatekeeper/elitist attitude everyone hates.
Haha, yes. Ironically those gatekeeping elitists (mainly from other heavy metal genres) despise power metal for the same reasons.
@@SimfreakOlena That's right but also ridiculous. Black metal for example fans are oftentimes also nerds. The trve kvult aesthetic is as nerdy as it gets.
Yeah it’s corny and cringe, but that is the point!
It’s fun, there’s escapism there that takes you out of the real world for a bit. It’s the musical form of LOTR, or any other high-fantasy based media. Sure that stuff might not be serious and could come off as goofy and cringe but it takes you away from the real world for a little while.
And who doesn’t like to get away for a while?
No, it's not. Finn is just not using the best examples.
I agree some Power Metal bands are very cheesy but if you listen to Helloween, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Iron Mask, Hammerfall....etc you realize that these bands kick ass, I rather listen to Power Metal than crappy American Nu Metal like Korn, Slipknot and all that nonsense
I love power metal! Rhapsody of Fire on their album, Symphony of the Enchanted Lands II (one of my favorite albums of all time), They got CHRISTOPHER LEE to do narration cameos on the album. That fact alone will tell you everything you need to know about the genre.
Finn, you are the fucking roast master of music. Coming from someone who loves power metal, everything you said here is 100% spot on.
🥳
Finn over here acting like he doesn't have a full set of chain mail hanging in his closet right behind his greatsword. We see that bag of holding+1 behind you on the couch...
I need a fusion genre. Gimmie Power Skramz. Sad misanthropic court jester who sounds like a Muppet having an anxiety attack
Kermit the frog as a skramz front man
First CD i bought was Hammerfall - Renegade and my love for them is immense because they introduced me to Metalmusic. Today i mostly listen to Metalcore/Deathcore music. SO THANK YOU HAMMERFALL! (Also, the lead singer is from my hometown)
If you’re taking power metal seriously, you’re doing it wrong
I love the AR video. The Art Department Director aka Steve went hog wild over budget at Spirit Halloween for costumes. But he forgot to grab some shit for the band to wear. So, on a Saturday, just before the gang headed to Buffalo Wild Wings to catch the UFC fight with Jon Jones in the main event, they figured they'd swing by "that castle lookin' house" to film a music video. After 20 minutes of grueling work, they hopped in Steve's 1997 GMC Jimmy and made their way to BWW's where they drank some Bud Light from frosted mugs, plowed through some garlic parmesan wings, and talked about who the waitress wanted to bang more.
I remember accusing Finn of being toxic and intentionally putting videos out to get a reaction and rile people up. Of course he denied it. And then you see video with titles like "POWER METAL IS PURE CRINGE". Ha!
Do you understand what jokes are?
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA I do sir, I do.
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA sometimes when people make really frequent jokes or roast/disses about something or someone, some true feelings about it may slip in there even if you deny it lol, I’ve done it and im sure a lot people do it too.
Fun fact : my highschool philosophy teacher was a power metal fan and wore some Iced Earth shirts and would talk about Manowar from time to time
I know that the really goofy stuff was the focus here for the sake of humor, but I wish we could see a reaction to some of the really classic power metal--from Helloween and Stratovarius to Dragonforce to Falconer to Nightwish there's a lot to the genre, and while a lot of it is a little cheesy, it's also a lot of fun.
It may be cringey, but it’s absolutely a guilty pleasure if mine.
Considering that Power Metal is the german metal genre, I find the lack of german bands being ridiculed in this video disturbing :P
I like powermetal.
Infact, my favourite Band is Blind Guardian.
So i really dont get the aversion to powermeta.
Also, while I liked Finn before, this made him pretty unlikable for me, he went in with his preconceived notion, didnt give it a chance, and gsearched for bands under confirmation bias to push the notion that all powermetal is cringe.

It's essentially LARP Metal. My ability to appreciate all this stuff is mostly dependent on how seriously they take themselves... just like LARPers
Almost as cringe as some of fins hot takes.
Manowar used to pride themselves on being SO loud they would like, break sound systems.
They were really big on bicep work pre show to make sure their muscles were really poppin!
Punk Rock MBA: "The originators of power metal..."
My head going: "Helloween! Helloween! Helloween!"
Punk Rock MBA: "...Manowar"
...wtf..
The best power metal album is the one that Christopher Lee made at age 90 that is a (historically accurate) rock opera about the rise and fall of King Charlemagne. That man was metal personified, and I mean that in the most complimentary way.
You seem to have a soft spot for Christcore bands and there’s actually a Christian power metal band called Theocracy that somehow ends up being less cringe than all these wizard bands.
Mostly in that they aren’t singing about spells and dragons and taking thrones. I recommend the song Paper Tiger
Theocracy is legit good and no one can convince me otherwise
Theocracy is hands down the best, least cringey power metal band out there. Super good musicians.
I recommend Nailed. Check out both the album version and their practice session.
Funny how he has sabaton on the thumbnail, but barely mentions them during the actual video
