A great video! I just finished listening to Herc and I would definitely recommend the audiobook. I did still find the modern language pretty jarring at times and didn’t really like that aspect, but listening to it rather than reading it does definitely help with that, and the narrators are all fantastic.

I just finished this read through audiobook, and I felt it was absolutely delightful. Because of the cast of characters who performed so beautifully, it is one of my favorite audiobook listening experiences to date.

RIGHT I’M BACK Erica🤣 this book maaaan. I wanted to DNF this book so bad at times but I’m stubborn and just can’t do that. I feel like this book could have been so good if it wasn’t for the language used. The story was good, the character choices were good. Maybe a bit too many characters, for people who aren’t familiar with Greek myth and may get them confused (was fine for me). I just cringed so bad at certain things, especially the nicknames and just general modern language, it just let the book down for me… 🥺

@@MoAnInc I’m struggling with it and it’s not because of the writing. I keep replaying the events of Ariadne in my head while reading and expecting it to match with Phaedra. I keep forgetting this is Phaedras POV and not Ariadne.

This was really interesting. I have Herc but have not read it yet. This makes me think it’s going to be closer to (dark) Norse mythology or perhaps even Grimm’s Fairy Tales (the much older version than we commonly see now.) The Grimm’s tales are all over the place and seriously screwed up. Norse myths make Greek myths look like sunshine and rainbows - so maybe Herc is comped a bit to those? (Or not, lol.) Regardless, I’ve moved Herc up in my TBR. You’ve made me curious. BUT still working my way through the new Emily Wilson so it will be a while.
I bought this book but I’m scared to read it!! I don’t think I’ll like it, it sounds like the writing is too modern for me😭
