@@hamzaalrifai5321 depends on what it's about, but pleasures of imagination, can feel hollow; i'd rather have physical friends, than imaginary ones 😌 i'd rather be in a relationship, than dreaming about it.
But with lucid dreaming, you can ofc do anything you can Imagine, so you can't really fly IRL, but you can in dreams. ofc there's situations where imagination is great, but if we could fly IRL, it would be better than imagination; you can't properly Imagine something you haven't experienced anyway.
Doing things physically, has a greater sense of accomplishment; i have tried ecstacy for example, it feels more amazing than anything i ever experienced without it; even though it feels real, i'd rather have real experiences, and I don't miss it as much as real experiences.

Reality has its problems, for sure; but the way we act only makes things worse. If each one does the best he can in his own environment, seeking to progressively develop himself and taking care of things in his locality, aiming to improve the conditions on his surroundings, we would have automatically a better world. But man hides in his megalomaniacal projects the need to give meaning to his life, and this is the main source of confusion.

@@robertdabob8939 Modern monetary policy doesn't create poverty, poverty has always existed and will always exist. Even if, in theory, there was enough food and shelter to house and feed everybody in the world that doesn't mean that everbody's needs would be met. In real life, crops fail and houses crumble. Random disasters and other factors we can't control would cause just as much shortage if not more than we have now.

Ask yourself what you value in life. They don't always have to be big, impressive things; it can be something small and simple. I'll write down a list of things that I value just for example.
My dog, my best friend, having a goal to work towards, practicing gratitude, spending time with nature, the sky at sunset, eating food that I made myself, learning about animal behavior and anatomy, coffee ice cream, playing video games.
Sometimes, when I feel that life doesn't have much meaning, I make a list of the things I value and ask if those things are in my life frequently, or very little. There have been a few times where I made myself a lot happier and fulfilled because I realized I was missing out on all the things I valued. I hope that you try this out and that it may be useful for you.

@@TruffleSeeker54 Idk. All these years, I tried my best to convince myself to continue living in this world. I tried finding reasons to live to the point that it's almost forced. I'd be like "I can use this as my reason to live". But all of it, eventually didn't matter cause this world is twisted and bound to be more evil anyway. So I'm like "why try so hard to live in this good-for-nothing world?". And I mean, everyday I try so hard just to do the bare minimum, unlike other people who do it so naturally. And yet I'd realize all that effort was actually pointless? It's tiring. I'm tired.

I experience weltschmerz from time to time. When it happens I am overwhelmed with despair and I feel an actual physical sensation of soul suffering. I often contemplate the end of humanity thinking it the best solution to this world's and our pains. But I have chosen to embrace the simplest and, to me, most profound solution, kindness. I feel the suffering of all life and I do not hide from it. For me the loving kindnesses I can share with others, man, animal, all life, is the most important yet overlooked healing salve. Genuine and loving kindnesses that bring smiles, warmth, gratitude, appreciation and a sense of family into this bleak existence lightens us, alleviates us and is my way of fighting back. I do what I can do.

I can so relate. My therapist has been encouraging me to write a book using the very empirical experiences of my life, travels, etc. and how they have profoundly affected my vision of humanity. Although I am not unique in such thoughts, she greatly appreciates my passion and how these thoughts have molded my outlook and my very being. I have been referred to as "too sensitive" but I believe that this definition suits my thoughts more appropriately, but not quite accurately. I am absolutely certain that society can revolve in a much better way, but alas the engineering of society has resulted in such a state of detrimental apparently irreparable decay. I cannot accept that the powers that be are so ignorant as to believe that they are all wise and knowing as to what is best for life as they have created (and we perpetuate) this concept of their particular entities as "betters". I am not seeing a "better" reality based upon what this engineering has created. Being able to satiate the obvious mental disorder of the hoarding of wealth is NOT a sign of brilliance but rather a lack of empathy upon society as a whole akin to sociopath disorder. One cannot gain such immense wealth without destroying the lives of others whom they deem to be less than, while telling themselves that they are simply far superior at business. These people have been groomed much as a child is groomed to be the victim of a sexual predator thus becoming a sexual predator themselves. As far as I'm concerned morals and ethics are far more important than any law. Finally, I am wise enough to understand that my thoughts may and will be altered based upon my acquisition of more knowledge, understanding, and experiences... MY empirical data.

I can very much relate to Weltschmerz as well... as does many other people
I mostly agree with you, I think we are in some sense taught that we have to be selfish to accomplish success in life... to accomplish our own success in our own life, that's another point. And from what society teach us from the start, in our school system which is in most cases especially on primary schools really terrible, we should focus on our goals, mind our business and if we take advantage over somebody, it can lead to our benefit.
At least most of humans are at least subconsciously focused primary on themselves naturally and we all have a great potential to do evil things, but we have the same potential to support others and to build our success together.
If we would be all encouraged from the early age to support others, we as individuals would be more fulfilled as we would have better feeling about ourselves and even feel a better sense of connection with others, society would prosper more and in a healthier way and so would individuals.
I think there are some good examples that it works this way, perhaps the Summehill school might be a good one. Recently I saw an interview on Google with the author of the youtube channel SBSK and I think the way in which his class of disabled children prosper in a healthier way than a "normal" class is a wonderful example.
At the same time we have to be grateful for the (western) society that we have, which has been shifted and created by our ancestors and it was a long and painful process. We have to be careful about any changes we want to make and not to fall for any radical changes that are not based on experience and may (most probably will) end in tragedy (Ideologies).
This is not a complex view (not even mine complex view), it is just one way to look at it, neither I believe that world suffering could completely vanish. But I believe that it is important for each person is in the same way individual as he/she is a part of a greater whole (family, nation, society, nature....). If we are hurting others, we are hurting ourselves as well and if we are supporting others, we are supporting ourselves as well, even though it's not so obvious.
I hope my comment makes sense, as I started to associate more things while writing...
Believe in humans and believe in yourself to make a positive impact.

Thank you for this enlightening view. We all need to work together towards the betterment of humanity or we will suffer greatly. There is no greater need now than humans putting aside their egos. War, power, greed, capitalism, Neoliberalism - these are ALL driven by ego-centrism. They are also driven by patriarchy - the United States thus far has been the world power.
Human beings NEED to embrace our TRUE origin - which is a collective. We are not individuals. We are ONE. We are one with nature, each other, and with the Creator/Universe.
When we stop listening to the world and start listening to the Universe - a change happens. If you keep listening - the change will remain. Your anger and irritation will subside. You will quit wanting to argue with everyone ALL the damn time. You will want to learn about and explore spirituality. Suddenly - you will understand that we are ONE.
Anyone reading this - you can stop listening to the world whenever you want to. Turn the news off. Find a new way to get your news from an independent source. The MSM is propaganda. All of it, not just Fox News. The goal is to cause fear and sow division. Divide and conquer is the oldest scheme of ruling the masses.

I just discovered your videos and I’m very grateful for them. I’m an artist and I’ve been in presence of Weltschmerz since I was a kid. It’s a long history of psychical abuse and bullying because of a psychical deformity. Until now I thought I was just a negative person and that I should always be grateful for the little things, but I think embracing “life is suffering” as well as being grateful is important, expectations have been making me more miserable since the COVID-19 commotion started because all the plans I’ve been working for for years ended with the quarantine. After watching this video in particular I feel in peace. Thank you!

Yeah, pretty much. I grew up in an abusive household, in which my hopes, dreams and will to live were stripped from me at a young age. Also grew up in a third world country, wherein the culture was obnoxiously ignorant and tyrannical. The abuse left me handicapped socially with a bunch of mental illnesses so I never connected with peers. Then a crisis struck my country and we lost any semblance of normality for years. I managed to escape but went through more traumatic experiences abroad. I have CPTSD from all these traumas. At times it gets better, but at times my mind cannot forget all I've seen, all I've been put through. I had my 8th suicide attempt three days ago. Tried to hang myself, didn't work. I'm so tired of this existence. All I've felt is pain. I've nebver felt happy. I've only witnessed tragedy. My life is better now yet I'm still distraught over this endless pain. It never ends.

MK ULTRA but human society will NOT reach enlightenment as a whole, there are very few that do reach enlightenment and most of those people can devote all their time to attaining enlightenment unlike the vast majority of people. An “enlightened” society would most likely have to destroy all other society’s to exist permanently and who is to say that a society has reached enlightenment objectively.

Good video. I like the juxtaposition of a few philosophies' reaction when people experience the world's pain or the dissatisfaction people may experience when their expectations don't conform with reality, causing anxiety, depression, boredom, etc. However, as an alternate way of reacting to world pain, I personally have chosen to do the inner-work regarding personal authenticity (individuation), merging the light and shadow of myself, while expressing my displeasure with the world. Believe it or not, it is quite liberating!

I've experienced weltschmerz quite a bit of time, but one day, during the summer of last year, it all hit me like a truck. I became confronted with the brutal reality of climate change, socio-ecological collapse, and the ever-increasing disparities of corporate capitalism in Western society, etc. All of this was too much for me, to the extent that I genuinely wondered if there was a point in living if the future will continue to be so bleak. Even though it brings back painful memories, I'm so glad to have discovered the word weltschmerz, because it's something that I've lived through so many times.

Another video that really knocks it out of the park. Thank you for your continued efforts to bring new ideas and concepts to us!
I want to adress your use of the word "suffering" in the end of the video though. The stoics distinguish pain and suffering: Pain is a natural fact. Whether it be emotional or physical, pain is a part of life. Suffering, however, arises from our judgments about life and the adversity and pain we face. And since we have the power to retract and redefine our judgments, it is wholly within our power to stop suffering. If you stub your toe or if your spouse leaves you, that certainly hurts, but it is our judgments about these events that fill us with anger, sorrow, anxiety and ultimately suffering.

It is through the deepest self reflection that can be found in meditation, that you find out that all of the things you listed are not YOU. They're pieces of past experiences that you carry forward into your present, and use to define who you think you are. This process of dragging the past forward defines your future. I read Dr. Joe Dispenza's "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself", which showed me that I was constructing my reality around a negative past. Once I realized that, through the meditation I work to construct a new reality around a future of my own design. Removing those elements of life, those obstacles, that keep me from a truer version of myself.

The fact that anyone, anywhere, can be happy or peaceful or joyful is a miracle. It's what makes humanity worth... anything. Not necessarily the reality of those states, but their potential. But potential without reasonable possibility is cruel hope. And I feel like that describes where I am in life right now. I feel like I have the faint potential to see deeply into the world and pull out truth. Truth that can enrich human lives for as long as we exist. But I also know how small I am. How big the world is. And how even if I'm blessed with perfect perception, how little that benefits the world unless I am lucky and skilled and dedicated enough to spreading these messages.
Sometimes I think, given how uncomfortable I've been in so many seemingly great circumstances, that I just wasn't meant to be happy. But others are. Others as real as me. And that's pretty wonderful.

Having lived in a big city (grew up in Los Angeles, now live in Las Vegas) you experience this quite often. You experience the dichotomy of good and evil in the same day. I remember once I was driving to the beach in Malibu, looking at the water thinking how beautiful everything was until later I was driving through Skid Row in downtown la and feeling this feeling of hopelessness and sorrow. Heroin addicts, prostitutes, drug addicts, etc. I remember that moment feeling the world itself was hopeless and lost.
