    So nice of you to not just explain the theory (which you did great!), but also gave us examples on how you do each type of run. Loveeeed the video!!!!.

    Great Content Ben. Been following you on social media for a while now and glad you created a RUclips account as you have already answered a lot of the questions I’ve been meaning to ask you but didn’t want to trouble you about in a Private Message. Keep up the good work 👍

    I live in Phoenix and have been doing hill repeats at 100-110 degrees out. Much steeper than that, we go for 1 minute as hard as you can then walk back down. Hardest workout of the year by far but gets you ready for the fall.

    Thanks for this excellent video. For the hill repeats, what kind of gradient is ideal? Am I looking for +- 5%, more like 10, or even steeper? Thanks for your advice!

    Great video as usual Ben well done. The exercise that had been helping me to increase my performances is a fartlek. it consists of running Fast (5k speed) and has 2 minutes Recovery between each interval. Goes like this
    1min F, 2 min R , 2 min F , 2 min R , 3 min F, 2 min R , 2 min F, 2 min R , 1 min F , 2 min R , 2 min F , 2 min R , 3 min F, 2 min R , 2 min F, 2 min R , 1 min F , 2 min R....... and so on. It can be adjustable for as many reps possible within 30min or one hour. And are you running London Marathon this Sunday?
    cheers from Korea

    How steep is that hill? 200m long you said?

  • @TheBaldyheed
    @TheBaldyheed 4 года назад

    Sorry to ask a stupid question mate but when you say you build these sessions into your weekly sessions over a three week period.
    Does that mean basically that on week 1 you would do hill repeats around your running routine/plans
    Week 2 would be intervals around your running routine/plans
    Week 3 would be strides around your running routine/plans?
    I told you it was a stupid question but I always feel I'm doing wrong 🤷
    Thanks mate, awesome video and great content 👍

    Hi Ben. I run 3 times a week. About 30 to 40 kms. How do i incorporate these 3 into my routine. Thanks in advance

    • @ACTruitt
      @ACTruitt 5 лет назад +1

      I do one speed workout a week, alternating each week. 1 tempo run and 1 long. 3 easy/recovery days and 1 day complete rest.

  • @petewatson7031

    What sort of length or duration of hill would you be looking for?

  • @annegoldsbrough9652
    @annegoldsbrough9652 6 лет назад +1

    Great video! Which session in particular would you advise to help build up from 5K to 10K runs? ☺

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  6 лет назад +1

      The strides are good regardless of the distance you're training for. So try and get them in once a week after an 'easy' run. Then for 10k's I'd say doing 800m intervals is good, with a 3-4 minute standing rest. Beginner 4 reps, intermediate 5-6, advanced 8+. Good luck!

    Hi Ben. In this moment I’m trying a new approach to my training. Just doing easy running under 135bpm trying to put 80km per week. Do you think it’s better put some speed work or build a good aerobic base before?

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  5 лет назад +1

      Good to put in 3 to 4 weeks of base building, then start to add some speed. Depends how much time you have.. but if you're not in a hurry working towards a dated goal, then that is what I'd recommend.

    • @libertandoapoeira
      @libertandoapoeira 5 лет назад

      Ben Parkes thank you for take the time to answer me. I've 9 weeks till 50k trail. Not too demanding on uphill but it’s always a long distance to run. This year I’ve already 2x 50k trails, 1x 1/2 and 1x marathon and 2x 30k trails . Not looking for a pb but just have a good race.
