Thanks Ben and Sarah. I'm doing the Manchester marathon on 5th April. It'll be my third marathon since 2018. First attempt (Dublin) was 3:57. Second marathon (Dublin again) was 3:31. Since November 2019, I took on a running coach which has helped me no end and I have been making steady improvements since then. I have a 10 mile race in 2 weeks which should be a decent indicator for Manchester. Not sure what the goal time for marathon is just yet but I'm confident of knocking another chunk off my PB!! Love your videos! Ken (Dublin)
Thanks for some great tips. I got into running late at 55 years of age and am now 60 and want to complete a marathon before it's too late! Ran Berlin HM last year in 1.31 so by all accounts i should manage a marathon under 3.20 if i get my training right for the Hamburg marathon in April.
Best of luck - I ran a HM in 1:27 and then did London in 3:24 so don’t be too disappointed if you can’t get under 3:20 - that said I probably could’ve trained better so I hope you smash it!
Training for Canberra marathon which will actually be autumn here in Oz. Will be my 2nd. Ran 4.06 first time around. Hoping to be more like 3.45-50 this time. I am using your plan. Currently on week 9 and feeling fine😁
Some good tips here. Currently on week 10 on your 1:30-1:40 half marathon plan was feeling unsure with the amount of easy runs on it but did my fastest ever 1km repeats last week and my biggest week ever at 38 miles. Can’t wait for race day. Keep up the good work.
Ran marathon number 20 just over a week ago in Dubai... now Comrades training has officially started (eeeeek!!)... got some hilly races in March, Hatta Half marathon and Jebel Hafeet Challenge. Second half of the year I have my 6th Chicago Marathon! Thank you for your videos!
Great video, like the dual combo presenting 😃 I did a PB for the half marathon at Egham and Thorpe this weekend with 1:21:28, 3 mins better than Ealing last year. Aiming for as close to 3 if not beat it at London 😁
Training for my first marathon. The Pittsburgh marathon on may 3, 2020. I did this weeks long run this morning. 16 miles at a 11:30 pace. It felt brutal mentally and physically. Thanks for the tips!
Im training for Paris Marathon, 5. April. My goal time is 3:20, everything was going as untill I got some groin issues. Hopefully im back on track within a week. Next race will be Lysefjorden inn, a 63km trail ultra in june. This will be my first ultra.
Doing my first and second marathon this year! First one is in my hometown Copenhagen on 17th of may. Second in Valencia 6th of december. Hope to see you there!
Thanks Ben Great video, and the PDF chart is great as well. I can so relate to it. Just yesterday I ran a time based run. It was a track event in which one had to cover max distance in 3 hours, and I ran 33.19km. Feels so good. Now preparing for a marathon in the next quarter. Kudos to your work, great learning !! And keep putting up awesome videos.
This is why Ben's race plans stand head and shoulders above the others that I've looked at. The pacing charts are all worked out according to what your goal time is. So many other plans just say today you do a run at easy rising to interval pace without telling you what those paces should be for what you are training for.
I'm doing my second half marathon with my sister this spring in Buffalo,Ny! And after my run today I actually said exactly this...I need to find my pace. Thanks for this video 👍🏾
Starting week 7 of your Level 2 marathon plan this week Ben, really enjoying the variety of runs, hit 23K yesterday, the furthest I've ever run so pretty happy with that, cant wait for London!
Not a spring marathon but signed up for my first in October at Loch Ness. I've downloaded your training plan and really looking forward to starting the plan around May/June. Thanks for all the hints and tips, love the videos keep it up. #gettingitdone
Certainly one of the fastest courses in the UK.. a great race overall for sure. Good luck when it comes time to start the training for real Michael. All the best!
Running London with my 7-people Belgium Marathon Majors team! 4th of the 6, trying to get sub 3:10, maybe even 3:05! Next training 10x200m and then 10x400m, long run on Sunday with 5x3m Marathonpace. Only not doing strides after Easyrun, because I think my recuperation will take longer then. Both of you doing a great job! I'm also a PT, love to see how Sarah works in the big city of London and how it is different from my business in Belgium!
It's crazy but I struggle with the easy pace and slowing myself down has been quite a challenge. I find myself unknowingly upping the pace. I need to be going a minute per mile slower, something I'll have to work on.
Thank you. This is great information, I love these videos that have details. I have been following for awhile now, really enjoy Sarah being on. It’s nice to see and hear two perspectives.
I'd love to see breathing tips. I'm training for 4 half Marathons over the next 6 months then stepping it up to my first Marathon in the Spring.I live in NZ so I'm training in the summer at the moment 🏃🏼♀️ thanks for the series finding it very helpful 👍
kerrie Hanley I read one article about a breathing technique used by a female athlete in the US but its honestly more of a mental pain to remember to breathe that way than it actually benefits you. I suggest you just breathe the way you naturally breathe.
I'm going to have to decide on my marathon pace soon. Started Jan after a 6 week lay off and a 14lb weight increase 🙈🙈. My pace has come down circa 15s/km over the last month or so as I regain fitness and start to lose weight. Love your videos Ben.
Don't forget us Manchester Marathon lot at the beginning of April 😁 On my Garmin, I really like to have alongside current pace, overall average pace. Especially on the long runs, it helps me keep track of where I'm all overall, so I can gradually figure out my pace if I've gone a bit sideways at any point without having to get my calculator out. Great content, super helpful, thanks!!
I have the same on my watch Gareth! Average pace works well.. so long as the watch is tracking super accurately all the way on race day, which for some doing big city marathons is tricky. So lap pace can be useful to keep making each mile or km your target. Lots of different ways! All the best for Manchester!!
Great idea to do a spring marathon series 👍👍 I am watching this instead of normal tv. What about getting ill? Winter blues? Bad weather? Bit depressing I know, but it is the reality of winter training, followed by what to do on your rest days, like have fun 😉 not run
WOW what a great Video, thanks a lot! I thought the exercise "Fartlek" is unknown outside Germany because I never saw an english running Video with that. (Called Fahrtenspiel in German) Only thing I would add is to differ in heartrate zones for describing the intensity lvl. Looking forward for next Video and shared this one with my running group.
I love the vdot calculator and find that it works really well aside from the marathon. 5k to Half marathon it is usually accurate to within 5s/mile. For marathon, even when I peaked at 70+ miles a week, it still felt aggressive by about 30s/mile. Perhaps, I just need to run more marathons!
Thx! I have pay for your(s) Marathon program. And I really find it easie explained. Whit this vid, Its no queations. And for notice. first time ever I have run on snow road thx to your(s) channel.
intervals are my absolute fave - so its more of a discipline and battle of will to do those easy runs.. but the mantra of 'go slow to go fast later' usually helps : )
Kalamazoo, Michigan Marathon on May 3rd! It will be my first marathon! I really appreciate this series you are putting on currently. I was supposed to do 4 miles easy this morning and ended up running them at my marathon pace oops. Good reminders.
Stockholm Marathon 30 may, will be my first marathon. Been building mileage slowly since Christmas and are now starting to train a bit more structured. So perfect timing on this series 👍
You make a great team, thank you for all the videos, there is something to learn every day. Can wait for the next video, food doring marathon is a most. I fail on my marathon in december because of it, and also a calf injurie but fueling was a big part also.
I'm doing Calgary a week later than your Ottawa Marathon. I think I found you on Strava...need moral support so am following you. I hope you don't mind
Currently using the 10k plan and really enjoying it, was unsure on what pace I should be aiming at so will certainly be looking at the pacing chart for future runs!
This video helped me loads just now - I took it easy and loved every second of it. Only did 4 miles but could of easily gone for another 8 it felt. Thanks for your help
Awesome content guys, i'm personally training for Manchester marathon at the moment with then a 12 hour event on a month later. For me i'm trying to slow my runs down so these videos def help me.. Keep up the good work.
Just done 30k yesterday at easy pace with 2x6km at MP blocks inside - this type of workout was really nice and inventive, kept me going through the worst weather - around 0 degrees centigrade with heavy sleet. Would be hard just to go slow on that long run. Thanks, Ben, for this idea!
My tip is learn how to set up sessions on your garmin/watch and set alerts so if your pace is 8 min miles than if you go fast than 7.55 or slower than 8.05 the watch starts beeping. No need to look at the watch as it will mind you.
Good idea about long run blocks. The long run is a key workout for marathon training. A lot of people make the mistake of running too easy on their long run. A marathon is not E. I like to progress the pace, by pushing the last 5 to 10K towards M pace.
Nice tips.. I bought your level 4 plan .. so help me God.. the goal is Marines Corp Marathon in October (actually 50 km). Before that, two marathons here in Brazil, and one very special race.. Comrades.. the goal for all of them? To finish healthy and happy. Your plan is awesome. Pretty sure it is going to help me. All the best
Please could you share a few of your few of your marathon training stats with us🤣: peak long run distance, peak weekly milage and average weekly run pace?
Not a marathon but I’ll be running 15k on 29-Mar-2020 at the Run for the Kids in Melbourne Australia, it’s an event that raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital
I know it's outside of the "spring" window, but I am training for Comrades in June. It will be my second one. I will be running my Qualifying marathon in the middle of March so I suppose that counts.
Hi Ben, Great video, I did a tempo run last night, pace calculator said 6:30 min mile ( from recent 10k pace), I ran 4 x 1 mile tempo but all too fast @ 6:10-6:15.......however it felt tempo pace and I was trying to hold myself back, Heart rate was only 145-152 over 4 efforts which is lower than I would expect for me. I have been doing more miles recently and have lost some excess fat approx 1-2kg. Also had my new nb zante Pursuits on! Got a10 k in a couple of weeks so will be able to readjust paces. Anyway does this show my increased fitness or did I just run to fast?. 🤔
10K in 52 mins on the dot at weekend, timely video as half marathon not far off in Lisbon and never done one before, wondered what pace i should be aiming for approx........ now i know. thanks.
helpmark about 1;53 pace is not a bad target... It does depend on the course and conditions and how you are feeling on the day. Just go out and enjoy and have fun..and good luck.
I ran a 1 h 52 min minute half marathon in december, I'm currently training for another half marathon in may where I hope for a time of 1 h 45 min and in august I hope to run my first marathon at sub 4 hours! However, I'm looking at your pace chart and input from other sources that I have studied saying i should be doing my easy running at roughly 5:50-6:30 min/km pace. I just feel as though when I run at 6:00-6:10 that my running form completely falls apart. My natural, relaxed running pace would be around 5:40-5:45 if I had to just do it by feel, but this lands my heart rate at around 155-165 bpm. Should I force myself to slow down and work on my running form or should I stick to what feels natural?
I'm really struggling with easy long runs pace, mainly due to HR. At this time i'm 2 weeks into training and all of the running sessions are inside zone 4 nearly on zone 5. Im not a light person i have 100kg (220lbs). Max HR measured by chest strap is 194(most formulas give out a 185 as a max HR) and my rest HR is around 45/50bpm. Im running an average of 6:30min/km (10:46 min mile) comfortably for about one hour. Im noticing that the avg HR is decreasing but should i run slower or wait that the average HR will eventually drop?
Great video, can you make also a summary how to work on getting a Ultra-Marathon in the Alps? I have already run a marathon with 3000 altitude, but I don't dare to run 80km with 4000m. I really like your channel. Keep going on ;-)
Hi i will doing my 33kms long run and its supposed to be easy. Im preparing myself for a 3 hrs 30 mins on Los Angeles Marathon. Really happy with both of you giving running tips. Any last motivational tip before entering. Best Regards from El Salvador
I could do with all the help I can get for London to Brighton 100k. I walked it last year. Going for a walk/run this time. It’s my first time working out cadence for this pace and how to decide what to run and what to walk. Do we break it down by incline/terrain or chose what stages to run and what to walk? I’m sure both have their merits. And training tip would also be exceptionally helpful.
Hi Ben .. any advice on using trekking poles .. have uts50 in June,5000m elevation gain .. didn’t use any for last 80k but feel I might be missing out .. any input appreciated 👍🏻
I do not run marathon. I am trying my second half aiming for 1h30. My favorite pace is tempo progressive run. Starting at easy pace and ending with 5k or something at that confortable/unconfortable pacing
Thanks Ben and Sarah. I'm doing the Manchester marathon on 5th April. It'll be my third marathon since 2018. First attempt (Dublin) was 3:57. Second marathon (Dublin again) was 3:31. Tanks for all the great information guys. After a 30k urban trail 2:37 I gonna start this week my 8 week training for my spring marathon.
I'm doing Boston in April. Training going well so far. Can't wait to get there.
Doing my first and second marathon this year!
First one is in my hometown Copenhagen on 17th of may. Second in Valencia 6th of december. Hope to see you there!
See you in Valencia Lars!
See you guys both in Valencia -🏃♂️🕷🕸
Currently training for my first Ultra at the end of April. Will be using some of these tips as I build my mileage.
Thanks Ben

I'm doing Geneva Marathon in May with your training plan. Currently on week 5 - I've never stuck to a training plan for this long before!
Starting week 7 of your Level 2 marathon plan this week Ben, really enjoying the variety of runs, hit 23K yesterday, the furthest I've ever run so pretty happy with that, cant wait for London!
Well done, see you at London!
Copenhagen 17th of may! Legs hurts, rest is fine :) love your channel, great with Sarah as well :):)
This is so good - it’s difficult to find useful information like this but now it’s all clear to me!
Really great tips, and thank you for the pacing chart! Cheers from Belgium

Ill be in London (again). I cannot wait. Training is going great. Racing a half next weekend to see where I’m at. But I feel great.
Thinking about the future these tips seem to really help. Thanks for the series this channel is booming. Keep it up👍
Thank you Erwan!

Great video! Thanks Sarah and Ben!
This has come at the right time for me. Got a bunch of 1/2 marathons this year but it all builds to my 1st Marathon in Valencia in December. 🤘
Don't forget us Manchester Marathon lot at the beginning of April 😁

But in all seriousness I hadn't even thought about that possibility. Noted and thanks again. 👍🏻

I thought the exercise "Fartlek" is unknown outside Germany because I never saw an english running Video with that. (Called Fahrtenspiel in German)

intervals are my absolute fave - so its more of a discipline and battle of will to do those easy runs.. but the mantra of 'go slow to go fast later' usually helps : )
Another great video. It would be great to hear in contrast updates on your own training timetable in contrast for advanced marathoners.
Kalamazoo, Michigan Marathon on May 3rd! It will be my first marathon! I really appreciate this series you are putting on currently. I was supposed to do 4 miles easy this morning and ended up running them at my marathon pace oops. Good reminders.
Hi Ben, thanks for the training vids I am doing the Kielder ultra marathon! In April. Only just reached the minimum age limit!
How exciting!! All the best with the race!
Thank you so much! Your spring marathon playlist is awesome
I've used two of your plans now. They were really helpful. Training for my first Ultra in April
Stockholm Marathon 30 may, will be my first marathon. Been building mileage slowly since Christmas and are now starting to train a bit more structured. So perfect timing on this series 👍
I’m doing Manchester marathon and following your advanced plan 🤙
You make a great team, thank you for all the videos, there is something to learn every day. Can wait for the next video, food doring marathon is a most. I fail on my marathon in december because of it, and also a calf injurie but fueling was a big part also.
3rd week into your intermediate marathon plan for Edinburgh hoping to hit a sub 3.30 all going well enjoying the plan.
Great hear Russell! Wishing you all the best for race day!
Marathon de la Liberte in Normandy. I start your intermediate plan next week! I’m hoping for a sub 4 hour time.
Good luck Nick!
Nice video, Ben. Compliments on the sound effect that accompanied 'fartlek' (it didn't go unnoticed!)
I am training for the Boston 5K in April.
Ottawa Marathon May 24, training is going consistently.
I'm doing Calgary a week later than your Ottawa Marathon. I think I found you on Strava...need moral support so am following you. I hope you don't mind
Steven Sparksman that’s the main reason I use Strava it really helps to see what others are doing. Enjoy the training!
Copenhagen marathon! Following your improver plan to get sub 3:45. Current pb 3:57. :)
Currently using the 10k plan and really enjoying it, was unsure on what pace I should be aiming at so will certainly be looking at the pacing chart for future runs!
Yeah, keep one eye on the pacing chart as you progress through it!
Training for my first 10k in the spring and first half in the fall so not doing marathon training yet but these tips are really useful.
Thank you
Barcelona marathon in March. Trying for about 2:55 if all goes well.
This video helped me loads just now - I took it easy and loved every second of it. Only did 4 miles but could of easily gone for another 8 it felt. Thanks for your help
Great video as always, running easy is always my hardest to do but I’m getting much better at it
Now going into week 8 of your plan loving it
Awesome content guys, i'm personally training for Manchester marathon at the moment with then a 12 hour event on a month later. For me i'm trying to slow my runs down so these videos def help me.. Keep up the good work.
Great video guys! I enjoyed Ben dropping “covering the ground” with the inside running podcast in the background!
Great stuff guys 👌🏼
Just done 30k yesterday at easy pace with 2x6km at MP blocks inside - this type of workout was really nice and inventive, kept me going through the worst weather - around 0 degrees centigrade with heavy sleet. Would be hard just to go slow on that long run. Thanks, Ben, for this idea!
Training to Boston. 6 weeks passed to a total of 579.4km. Broke my half-marathon PB in the while :D
My tip is learn how to set up sessions on your garmin/watch and set alerts so if your pace is 8 min miles than if you go fast than 7.55 or slower than 8.05 the watch starts beeping. No need to look at the watch as it will mind you.
I use to do that when I started running. It really helps!
Good idea about long run blocks. The long run is a key workout for marathon training. A lot of people make the mistake of running too easy on their long run. A marathon is not E. I like to progress the pace, by pushing the last 5 to 10K towards M pace.
Boston 2020- goal pace is 2:48 (4:00km) currently MIA due to soles injury that is reoccurring. Think I ramped up the mileage too much sigh.
London. Got into the Championship start for the first time, be nice to compare it to the GFA start.
Great informative video - thanks! Love the format too.
Just bought your lvl2 half marathon plan Ben, wish me luck!
Good luck Rudolph!
need to decide my may marathon. lots of good options. prague, belfast, rhodes (2 loops) copenhagen and riga
Thank you guys so much, yes been struggling with pacing haha!! I’m running London Marathon finally, training is going well🤞🏽
Great vid guys! Super helpful. Did 21k at the weekend in all my #gettingitdone kit! Longest run to date.
“Speedway” lol love it - even better with the little speedway clip! Great vid!
Very helpful and informative.. thank you so much 👍
Please could you share a few of your few of your marathon training stats with us🤣: peak long run distance, peak weekly milage and average weekly run pace?
Great vest in back ground ben!
Not a marathon but I’ll be running 15k on 29-Mar-2020 at the Run for the Kids in Melbourne Australia, it’s an event that raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital
Great video as always you two. Can you do one on books to recommend for beginners? Like an updated book video.❤️😊
I know it's outside of the "spring" window, but I am training for Comrades in June. It will be my second one. I will be running my Qualifying marathon in the middle of March so I suppose that counts.
I will be running the Rotterdam marathon in early April, really excited for this race...
me too!
And me!
Hi Ben,
Great video, I did a tempo run last night, pace calculator said 6:30 min mile ( from recent 10k pace), I ran 4 x 1 mile tempo but all too fast @ 6:10-6:15.......however it felt tempo pace and I was trying to hold myself back, Heart rate was only 145-152 over 4 efforts which is lower than I would expect for me.
I spy with my little eye a new Ben Parkes hat in the top left on top of some books.
Haha.. just some samples! But more designs are out soon!
..training for 2:38 London, see you at start Ben Parkes?
Great information thanks much appreciated
Great video, can you make also a summary how to work on getting a Ultra-Marathon in the Alps? I have already run a marathon with 3000 altitude, but I don't dare to run 80km with 4000m.
I really like your channel. Keep going on ;-)
Hi Ben, training going well for London so far! When are you planning to do the meet ups prior to London?
Will do a meet up somewhere near the expo before London for sure!
Ben Parkes Sounds great + look forward to meeting up then!

Scotiabank Calgary Marathon in May
Colfax (Denver) and Leadville!
I ran Colfax a few years ago.. what an amazing city.. loved running through the stadium! Good luck!
Ben Parkes probably ran it with you! This will be my 6th year! Glad you enjoyed the city!
Hi Ben .. any advice on using trekking poles .. have uts50 in June,5000m elevation gain .. didn’t use any for last 80k but feel I might be missing out .. any input appreciated 👍🏻
I do not run marathon. I am trying my second half aiming for 1h30. My favorite pace is tempo progressive run. Starting at easy pace and ending with 5k or something at that confortable/unconfortable pacing
