"I'm not paid to advertise them; I'm not paid to advertise anyone; I'm not paid by anyone; I'm not paid; I NEED MONEY!"
That was... Priceless.
Such a gem.
Absolutely gigakek.
Don't stop making videos. This channel deserves more
Agreed, i felt like i found a hidden treasure box when i discovered this channel
Completely agree this is one of my favorite channels hands down grim beard you’re the man
Rockosarrio!!! Why won’t you come back!!!
Some say ol' Grim is still making videos to this day.
I love you Mr.Grimbeard. Promise to never leave us
Nothing better than checking out one of your favorite RUclipsr’s backlog and finding a gem like Nox. Such an amazing game that no one remembers.
I looove how this video goes way beyond just the review of the game. A look at the industry back then was very interesting
One of my favourite games. I would spend all weekend playing this game and then talk about it in school. Good old days. Excellent video
why does this have 386 views?
This is well articulated, well though out, and well paced, it deserves so much more for god sake
The multiplayer for Nox had several different game modes. It had the basic team death match, Free for all, capture the flag, but also had a soccer mode which was alot of fun. There was also a Quest mode where you would go through levels based on different parts of the game with the added bonus of having a few other people helping you out. The gear you earned in Quest mode stayed with you from level to level, untill you died of course, which then you would drop all your stuff just like in the single player game.
I used to play this game a LOT when I was a kid. Thanks for showing it some love.
You didn't mention how the game's backstory is relayed to you in an installer program while the magical orbs are conjured into a stack of progress bar... But I guess modern players won't see or hear that due to GOG installer =\
Man, I would have loved this game back in the day, maybe I should check out the GOG release. Thank you so much for spending so much time creating these great videos, "just" to tell us about these hardly ever talked about games. I don't know what I'd do without you, man.
You should download GOG version right now, it even has a "DLC" called Nox Quest, it's closer to Diablo 2 then single player story, you can team up with friends and play randomly generated levels with hubs. And the best thing is... this game is still played by its fanbase, you can still find randoms for a quick pvp match. I honestly recommend everyone to give Nox a chance, i consider myself big Diablo 1 & 2 fan, but Nox is still my favorite ARPG ever.
Your description of the removed magic system reminds me of another game that (for the most part) pulled it off - Arx Fatalis
2 Headed Hero #2HH That's right! I remember that only sometimes being frustrating. It did feel really creative though.
@@GrimBeardyou don't identify with male characters because you are trans 😂😂
"They thought the spell casting would be too difficult so they expected people to use a gamepad"
Wild wild times those were
Man. I've been with you since you had 2300 subs. It's weird seeing how prophetic you (and all of us sane) were on these things. At least I am glad that what I said like 6+ years ago about how you should keep doing what you're doing and you'll get your due did strike true.
Nox's multiplayer was entirely skill-based. It wasn't about items, runes or builds. And it was incredibly fun.
Nox was so Iconic! All my friends disregarded it, because they wanted to play Diablo 2. Rightfully so. But Nox had such a great story, and was not just a dumb hack and slay like D2. It was funny, and Jeeeezuuuz so well told, and you had to run and leap over shit, and think....and so much diverse Enemys. Nox Deserves something....acknowledgement or something. I cheerisch this game!
This era was truly the golden era of video games, the early 90s up to early 2000s was truly a great era and so damn innovative for games.
Best thing about NOX is a incredibly cozy world. And after this game i was disappointed by graphics and lack of any physic at all in Diablo 2. It was freaking 640x480 on release!
This video came just as I needed it the most, thank you for your videos. I missed them.
Idk if you are still making videos but just know, this one, this one right here, I felt more than watched. Appreciate you.
Coming back to your older videos as a big fan of your stuff - glad you kept making videos
Grim Beard, have you played Arcanum by Troika Games? I don't even know why I'm asking, I guess your Nox review made me think of other underappreciated RPG gems. Also, speaking of Ultima: you being all grim and beardy should probably at some point review Ultima VIII Pagan - one of the grimmest RPG's of the 90's (hated by most Ultima series' fans).
kosmosyche Arcanum is one of the best WRPGs ever!
kosmosyche Arcanum is one of my favorite games and I'd love to do a video on it. It would require a fair amount of time though...hmm... I'll figure something out because it's an important one to me. I like the sound of that Ultima game haha. I'll look it up.
U8: Pagan is really, really strange. The controls and combat are awful, but the sense of discovery and exploration in the world was pretty great.
Yes, Arcanum is my shit. Too bad like all of troika's games it didn't get the time or money it deserved put into it's development. Their other lesser known game temple of elemental evil is pretty cool too, and of course everyone already knows about vampire. There is also a complete remake of Ultima 5 as a mod for the game dungeon siege called Ultima Lazarus.
Try Rusty Lake. It contains 3 episodes. It is a point & click adventure. Good styled and has good soundtrack
14:27 sounds like someone has never been to prison
Lmao, this hurts in many levels....
Absolutly fantastic video clip of Mr. Bungle.
Also great review of Nox.
I remember seeing this all the time in the intro to C&C Tiberian sun
I didn't think it was actually a real game.
(Soundtrack by Frank klepacki is always a plus in a game too)
игра - хорошая,
игра - хорошая,
игра - хорошая.
Раньше смотрел его видео с субтитрами, но благодаря ему я теперь понимаю английский без субтитров
I think everyone has made some great points
idk why but the starbucks cup with the pentagram made me laugh XD
I absolutely loved trying to finding all the secret areas in this game when I was young.
"I'm kind of an archery guy"
Shows footage of We Need To Talk About Kevin.
I love this game, and I love you. I've been going trough your reviews playlist so I'm going backwards but when you mentioned Nox a couple of videos in the future I got such a throb on. The conjurer gave me my love for having pets/minions/thralls in game, I'd just sit there spectating them going trough dungeons looking for enemies and now I always play those types of classes. Doubt you're gonna read this comment on a 6 year old video but maybe someone will see it and understand me.
Going through your uploads again to add a view and make sure I liked all these amazing videos, your content is just sublime, I love it
Always happy to see another grimbeard video
The Ultima bit made me laugh and brightened a gloomy day, thanks
This makes me wanna go back and revisit Blood Omen.
Great video, sir. I would love to see a video completely dedicated to the game industry and how it's changed over the years. Just your perspective on it.
omg I love your forest sheets! you prolly don't have them anymore but I dig the vibe
I remember blown away by the quality of this game when it came out. Played through all three classes and through the game as a whole probably close to ten times!
Good review, that game was tons of fun and you nailed one of my big desires: a female protagonist with some possible gender unique plot elements. Jack was weak, Nox was awesome.
The voice on the phone is a far superior reviewer! No filler, no nonsense, he just tells you what's what.
I played through this game as each class, for the storylines. This looks kind of like Diablo but plays different. It is a recommended play and a fun game.
Keep these reviews coming! I really like your reviews.
I'm glad I decided to search for nox stuff out of nostalgia feels. Found yer grand channel.
Definitely gonna force your channel upon my friends.
Good review as usual, i smiled when i recognized Cabaret Voltaire and Mr Bungle.
Wow Nox an old buddy of mine brought this up recently and i just had to go down memory lane. It was the only game with multiplayer that i spent a huge amount of time in. Loved the main campaign too. Loved the review!
The perfect birthday gift a new video from you keep up the great work you deserve way more attention
Willi Meisner Happy Birthday! Thanks for watching :)
this is my first time hearing the music and voice acting. my copy of the game was uh, "shared", and all frivolous cutscenes and voice acting was cut so your phone bill wouldn't be as costly as the game itself. nice to see someone giving the game some attention, i feel like i'm one of the few that played it.
The fact you only have 53k subscribers is criminal.
@13:05 - quote unquote! a man of the world i see.
Great review. Subscribed.
Hey, do you have the names of the songs used in this review? You have them on Soundcloud?
The quality of your videos is so high!
I think comparing Nox to Diablo is wrong, since they are entirely differnet gameplay wise - only similarities are fantasy and overhead perspective, and considering how little control player has over character progression(practically none), it'd be more fair to call Nox an Action-adventure instead of action-RPG.
Also at 14:39 I wanted to scream at screen: "you're a conjurer! Conjure the damn spell bombers!" Those things make game a cakewalk and solve pretty much any ambush problem you might've had if you configure them well enough.
I agree.
It's like comparing both of these to runescape because you click to move, overhead camera and fantasy setting.
They are all completely different
2:18 Aw Baby Warren Spector!
Don't know if it's my childhood memories going at it, and not exactly same genres, but Might and Magic 6 (Mandate of Heaven) and Nox were equivalents when it came to the atmosphere and feel to me. Played those two like crazy.
I always get happy when someone mentions Blue Stinger~
Love your sense of humor man!
i finished this game 4 times, i loved this game.... especially playing with the wizard
wow i just found this channel because i was looking for a review on this game, this was so funny :D
Love your content!
That warrior portrait is pretty good. I used it a lot in Baldur's Gate.
I remember seeing an advertisement for Nox on the back of my Arcanum strategy guide. It interested me, because the idea of even more Diablo clone games to play sounded fun, but I never looked into it.
i love to watch you descend into madness :)
Definitely like your newer videos better but you have some good history :) can’t complain :)
I'am late but i just wanted to say that you are amazing. Laugh every video that you make you are truly fucking funny
Love the music bro
Back again! :) Yay! It's a special day!
i only like shit from my adolescence too. it's fucking depressing, but i genuinely feel that most games being made these days are bad. i feel the same way about movies. music is still good, more or less, although only in the underground. the indie gaming scene occasionally delivers as well, but not even close to the amount of innovative and unique stuff that we used to get in the 90s.
Outstanding video, as always.
I barely play multiplayer online but i still today have fond memories of NOX capture the flag multiplayer. It was phenomenal
a fucking JAM reference near the end wtf grim, such a based boy
I loved this game. The classic disk installer gave the narrated backstory to really get you excited to play the game. Something lacking in the modern download interface of Steam or GOG Galaxy.
Now that I know this is a fast paced action RPG, I am more inclined to check it out. Thanks!
Also what sub-genre of industrial/cold wave are you using for your transitions? I need these grungy bass sounds in my life.
Saibot216 Thanks for the kind words. It's just stuff I make for the video. I have some of the tracks on my soundcloud at soundcloud.com/thousandface
Ooh, awesome. Thanks!
Nox still looks really freaking good, If they took graphics for Nox 2 out of this old game and just made it bigger with more stuff I'd be 100% ok with that.
COREY--IS GOOD BOY
I never played this one. The animations are fantastic, even the running animation has style to it. I'll likely give this a go if I can be reasonably sure the GoG version will work okay. Great video! Adam Sessler being a coked-out lizardman is part of the lore, now. I guess it fits the reptile theme well.
I think I just heard you say you like Final Fantasy VIII. I didn't think I could like you more than I already did.
edit: AND The Fragile and Adore. You have the best taste.
Finally someone else who knows about this game
That Star Wars piss you were talking about is unfortunately all I experienced on the PS2. I thought Jedi Power Battles was a great game lol.
Bless you for covering this game
18:45 made me do a real life LOL
That Adam Sessler joke has aged like a fine wine.
Damn! 20 minutes of Grim Beard, sign me in!
Aw DreamCast... ahead of its time
Omg Westwood nox it's an amazing game I know all the secrets in the lvls I still play it today
You don't need to decorate a TV, Jack.
I mean seriously.
OMG I remember this game! My mother’s boyfriend played it and I remember he left me with it to walk around for a little bit and I had sold everything he had all except his boots. Looking back I felt SO bad since he had a LOT of rare stuff
The multiplayer for this was *so much fun*. It was like Halo, but for this, and the different classes felt pretty well balanced against each other. I haven't done much multiplayer gaming, mostly because while I enjoy games I'm not actually good at them, and I had a blast with this one.
Hey grim beard, is the track that plays in the background at 17:30 available anywhere? It's really cool
nechroe I'll try to throw it onto my soundcloud.com/thousandface for ya.
appreciate it
Great review as always! It would be interesting to see your take on The Void or any of Troika games.
That ending left me with a shit eating grin
LMFAO! 15:18
After ALL THAT, that's what you get? XD
I can totally relate to this lmfao
i did grow up whit this game my cossets did give my it as a birthday present man good Tim's
I have issues getting my copy of nox to run on my windows ten from GoG.
this game was fantastic and i miss it so much. i think diablo was a completly different game but shared a similar view.
in diablo you get a better item to make you do more damage.
in nox you have to learn the enemys tactics and master your spells and movements to be good.
nox is a skill based game and diablo is a time based game.
Sorri for spam i forget to ask. Since you look laik awaere of VTMB, is ther ani chance of you review in future? Dont think this is order just friendly qvestion becos im curius thenks!
Fire
May I know the song, which plays at the end of this video? It's sick, fam. Please let me know, 10x.
Loved this game so much, the way you cast spells sort of like jutsu before naruto was cool. The fast paced gameplay and silly short story. Good times, i still cant decide which class i preferred most even to this day
did you get a pizza eventually or...?
10:49 im crying irl from laughing so hard
One of the best games from Westwood. Thanks for the remembrance :D
Fucking love these!
