Look, john being a mute ape and sam being an accepting everything that happens protagonist takes me out of it...this game looks and sounds nice but the story is an earthbound mish mash that just doesnt work...and all the characters sound so posh and overspoken, like they all sound like the same person...im at esther now, does the story have some game changer near the end, do i keep playing or no?
@@NoisyPixelNews Of course! Usually if I'm interested in a game or I'm a fan of their previous works such as things by the Danganronpa, Zero Escape or NieR developers for example, I just buy it and form my own opinion. But your videos are genuinely fun to watch whether I originally planned to buy the game or not, and they also help give me a better idea of the world I'm getting into if I'm unfamiliar with the dev/title or uncertain. I play games for story so I value that over watching a reviewer purely to find out their score.
Love everything about this game, probably my favorite ever since I’ve waited for it since the first trailer some years ago, but sometimes I wonder what it could have been because something about the story feels off, left me with a lot of questions and wanting more of it!
Man I have to admit I got to Chapter 4 and just … gave up. I’m an old school JRPG fan and usually tolerant of excess dialogue. But I found there to be *so* much meaningless blathering in this. And I spent so much time doing seemingly silly tasks (my final straw was a quest where I had to find an ingredient to make a sandwich for a casino boss). I audibly said “what am I doing in this game?!”. Sorry just had to vent because I usually agree with your reviews!
Haha that quest really annoyed me too so I understand your frustration. I think the enjoyment comes towards the build up of the final chapter. Very Earth Bond inspired
I totally agree with, I literally forced myself through chapters , the dialogue was so much most of the time and some missions were meaningless, but what kept me playing was the world and the change and the journey from chapter to another, and I am glad I did because the last chapter and bosses were very satisfying.
@@Kareem.Elnabawy GOD the last chapter was SO good!... I really wish it wasn't stuck behind like, 6 chapters of random side quests. I really want to recommend this game, but it just goes SO... Slow... at times. The amount of dialogue didn't bother me, but the sheer random pointlessness of a lot of it sure did! So much of New Dam City and the entirety of Potcrock Isle and Monkollywood just weren't fun or engaging to me... But every time I was about to give up on the game it sprinkled in some of the main mystery and I just had to know where i was going!
@@PhyreSpore Same here, they made most of dialogue and chapters - like monkollywood - very long and not contributing to the story and I was counting on finishing the chapter to get to the next point , but the ending was very good. If you want a dialogues game with a better and shorter story but simpler gameplay you can play "To the Moon" , just brilliant.
I really enjoyed the silly quests. I also enjoy random dialog that doesn't exactly contribute to the plot; it makes the world feel more alive because real people also talk about random things. Personally, when characters talk about nothing other than something related to the plot, it gets a little tiring.
I find this game is very very beautiful and clearly inspired by Earthbound (there are some blatant references in-game, including a game within the game called "Earthborn"). Seriously the art direction and pixel art is constantly amazing and gorgeous from beginning to end. I haven't seen pixel art of this caliber since Owlboy. However something about the story, pacing, and gameplay felt kinda average compared to the amazing art/graphics. Not bad, just average. There's not much exploration, and although many of the characters are likeable, I didn't find them as engaging or interesting as characters in similar stories like Chrono Trigger or Mother 3. The gameplay within dungeons is actually very similar to a 2D Zelda game with enemies, mini-bosses, puzzles, and items to help you progress. I think they did a pretty good job at making the game decently difficult towards the end unlike most Zelda games where it becomes stupid easy. So in terms of scoring/rating: 10/10 art direction 7/10 story 7/10 music 6/10 gameplay 5/10 pacing Overall I give it about 7/10. Pretty good game that's mostly carried by the amazing pixel art.
Your videos on Noisy Pixel are great, they could rival IGN butttttttttttt your voice audio is always sooooo quiet. You guys should either get better recording equipment or mix the voice a little louder. Just my opinion, keep up the good work!
The game had way way too much unnecessary character waffling on about nothing! It played 10(+)mins of characters talking crap, 5 mins walking to next destination, again more 10(+) mins of useless talking, another 5mins of gameplay usually solving puzzles, then again more time wasted in tedious 10(+)mins of useless character chatting, then 5mins again walking to next or previous destination ... repeat .. .repeat..repeat. You get the occasional boss and the odd gameplay change but a huge majority of the game is actually tedious characters babbling on about rubbish. So tedious a wasted opportunity as the game drags with the character gossip.
Totally agree!
Aye! Great minds

I've had my eye on this game ever since it was first announced. Now I'm about 12 hours in and have loved every second of it.
I think I got through the first 12 hours in one sitting haha. You’re half way to the end :)
@@NoisyPixelNews I can't wait to play more of it. It's easily a goty contender for me!

Don't normally watch reviews but I always dig your opinions and I'm glad you played this. Eastward's world really feels awesome.
That means a lot!

Nice
This game is a must play!!
Agreed
I love how you guys always have reviews so fast. It would be nice if you can include if there will be a physical release or not.
of course this is getting a release by iam8bit !!
It certainly sounds interesting and I like the art style. I'll have to check it out.

A game with great style, bosses but the pacing can be a bit glacial and some dialogues go on for too long at times imo
Haha as a fan of visual novels I was cool with it ^_^ but the dialogue is lengthy
September has been a great month for gaming, Eastward, kena bridge of spirits and Tales of arise!!
Much, much better than the IGN review
Awh yay!
Ok, you've got me. I'm buying it now.
mario and luigi superstar saga vibes
I'll sit this RPG out as I'm already playing TRIANGLE STRATEGY on the Switch.
Sounds great, hope it comes to PS4/5
Same!

The game is already a succes. Top 2 on the Eshop chart (in every region!), and also a top seller on Steam. 😁

How did it turn out
beautiful game, everything feels special, nice review
Ps 4 please
This game is all anyone is talking about these days!

The game is great. However, we need graphics settings on PC... 900p is very disappointing.
Yea I’m sure it’ll come. I honestly didn’t mind it too much, but I’m also used to playing PS2 games haha

I have to agree. Shame cause the dungeons and combat aka the actual gameplay, should have been the bigger part of the game.
