As someone who is a little taller and works out a lot I really appreciated the oversize tee trend, simply because it made it much easier to find fitting clothes. Most times I have to gamble if the shirts I want actually fit, oversize solved that problem somewhat
I have the opposite build and I’m short and stocky from powerlifting, and the over size trend was a life saver
as a 6'8 bodybuilder with massive muscles, I've found it difficult to find a tee that can both fit my giant brain through the neckhole and my huge muscles at the same time
The super oversized Jinco style jeans / pants didn’t last very long in the 90’s either. They just aren’t very practical.
Yeah they seem to come and go very fast!!
they are terrible...they don't flatter anyone
Yeah there's baggy/relaxed and there's comically baggy that looks super goofy
Oversized pants still a staple in Japan.
@@jomni that's news to me, I've lived in Japan for the last 15 years. Wider fits are in but not the comically large jinco style stuff. I'm sure it's out there but I never see it.
There are still people that rock throw back jerseys and starter jackets on the regular. People still rock skinny jeans and combat boots. These fashion influencers mainly push an agenda and rarely have their finger on the pulse of society and what people are really into wearing. Leave it up to influencers and they’d have everyone dressing exactly the same. Now how boring would that be? Don’t worry about trends wear what you like and what you think looks good on you.
They’re literally jabbering parrots just repeating what we already know and is obvious if you have eyes and a brain
Eh I don’t think they are pushing an “agenda” I think they just follow other influencers who do the same shit and it creates this echo chamber of baggy jeans and sambas. Especially doesn’t help if they do sponsorships with brands specifically fast fashion brands who just shift product to match trends.
influencers are generally early adopters of trends, the general public are typically very late adopters. plus, the general public doesnt necessarily participate in fashion, they wear clothes bc they have to.
Men can learn how to figure not looking dirty sweats or Lagerfeld vampire.
First of all emo tight is uncomfy, but also misunderstood and best left to Fall Prada.
If it took "Socc-er!" shoes and 505s for guys to catch up, it B wut it B
Be a playa but don't get played. Trends are only there to separate you from your cash.
I think to the more plain/basic fashion crowd just learning about shoe design, Tabi's can be seen as trendy but they've been around for centuries and have a huge cult following. People who reach for tabi's also don't care about trends, they like the artsy look.
something to note is the speed of which trends turnover due to influencers and social media that does not only apply to fashion but other goods like those stanley cups that popped off
But if you're not on the trend, social outcast....
Yes, it is all a marketing trap. It used to take years for a trend to catch on, especially if you were in Japan and taking on an American trend. Now with the internet, aka lightening fast sharing of information, trends can be communicated to any place in the world in seconds. Also the term "trend" has changed. It used to mean a lot of people was wearing/doing something new; but now one single celeb wears something and it is somehow a "trend" as reported by big dollar social media like Yahoo news. One person is NOT a trend.
Any other Margiela truists here before all this tabi/replica trend? True fans will keep wearing them, trend or not
I still love oversized boxy T-shirts but I go though phases of switching it up wear a fitted t pne day then I feel like oversized the next day I like both fitted and baggy
That’s the true trend. People wear whatever nowadays.
Seeing the oversized denim trend come in really gave me flashbacks to early 2000s when I all my jeans were that. And I agree with the Acne Studios overly distressed jeans trend; I really can’t justify that purchase for me.
I’m a big fan of the Acne trompe l'oeil jeans they did. I prefer it over the actual distressed jeans a lot of designers put out(with some exceptions). While it is a statement piece not meant for all wardrobes or people’s styles, when worn with the right outfit they slot in perfectly. As many things are cyclical in fashion the wide/baggy will come and go and come around again. I still throw on a pair of skinnies once in a while even though most have moved past the look.
Keep up the content. Love all of your output and opinions.
I can see what you mean. I love my skinny jeans too! Thanks for watching
As a slightly shorter person who works out a lot, the oversized and cropped trend has been perfect
Disagree, oversized only works for people on the taller side. Prime example, look at Volk at his press conferences. Looks childish even though he’s 35.
@@IamnotJokic he said, oversized and cropped, not just oversized bro.
@@IamnotJokic tall is subjective per country anyway. so that can't be your objective measurement on how things work.
@@ronaldo9120 all high end brands make their oversized tees cropped. It ain’t footlocker…
You look even shorter with oversized clothes.
I love metallic shoes and clothes 😭 I hope the hype dies down fast and becomes forgotten to the point that it won’t look “very outdated” when I’m still wearing them lol
Haha I respect that 👊

I agree. I believe the oversized look is evolving to an oversized look that is still fitted which adds a very clean and distinctive look.
Yeah for sure!
People usually wear relaxed and loose clothes because of the comfort they provide, not to look trendy 😅
(Edit:- I'm not saying baggy or oversized. Relaxed fit, loose fit, oversized fit and baggy fit all are different.)
Yep true 👍
I think out of shape and heavy people always push for loose fit clothes. The problem is it doesn't work if you are out of shape, makes you look bulkier. In the summer, loose fit is better. In the winter, fitted clothes makes more sense.
Funny, I find oversized clothes extremely uncomfortable.
I went from loose fit hoodies…..then to athletic fit hoodies. And now prefer loose, relaxed and oversized hoodies. Much more comfy compared to the athletic fit that feels restricted.
I agree with all except the oversized tops. They are comfortable to wear and the people who have been wearing them since the 90's, regardless of trends, will continue to wear them.
True, but that's not really relevant to this video. There are always people who wear virtually every style - that doesn't change the fact if it's trendy or not
"I can thrift that" In reality all current the trends can be done very cheap, without a big stupid investments.
Tabi's are a classic for the artsy fashion crowd. They will never go out of style. I think they are too weird looking for a high street brand to even produce. Even with a lower price, they are still to strange looking for most people. Also- animal prints and metallics are always in fashion for those that no how to style them.
counterpoint, tabis are corny
@@spuckuk7039least corny shoe you could've picked
The distressed jeans seems like a commodification of worn-in raw denim. I think people would be far better served buying high-quality denim and then wearing it for years to achieve the faded look, than dropping more money on mucked-up cheaply made jeans.
Couldn’t agree more, thanks for watching!
This take is older than the majority of people on RUclips
Those baggy oversized jeans were popular in the early 90s and sometime in the early 2000's. Sometime in the year 2000 my nephew was into that look but his were paired up with chains hanging down off the waist. Not sure how long the look lasted for but eventually it went away.
Haha, I used to wear them as well! Although I feel like they’re getting way bigger now than they used to be.
While I will NOT accept the silver gel-kayano legacy slander I will be very happy to see the back of the 'owner's club' stuff.
Haha, you do you mate, that’s what fashion is all about! They still look class 👍
I honestly prefer it when what I’m wearing isn’t pushed by an influencer. Influencers rarely measure up to someone my size and build (6’4 220 lbs. ) athleisure gorpcore punk fashion goth core tech wear work wear etc etc it’s not going away. It’s just not click worthy for influencers any longer but at the end of the day these looks will always be seen in public. Stop buying into the agenda and narrative you see on social media where they convince people to turnover their entire wardrobe to be part of the next “in” look.
I love wearing motorcycle leathers and own several nice ones but mostly because I ride motorcycles. I think they’re uncomfortable off the bike, which is why I agree it’s trendy when it comes to fashion, but not when it comes to actual motorcycles (in which it’s timeless IMO).
The tabi shoes are just a need for people wanting low chelsea boots with a square toe. also giant pants will live forever in my heart, its not about the length but i need that width
the problem with tabis are it was derived from something functional to just purely aesthetic. It'll die that way. But, if a performance or technical company would have their take on tabis, I'd like to think they'll last.
I have stuff from oversized to slim. I'm still going to rotate them and not follow trends because I finally found out what works and doesn't in my personal style. Lol! I still have my eye on dirty jeans (not ripped) from Acne. Lol. But you are right. I'm also wearing down my raw denims and looking forward to how they break down.
Trends may die out but there will be sub-cultures still wearing them. i.e. oversized and baggy is dominant now but there are still people rocking slim. It will be the same when baggy goes out of the limelight. It's cyclical.
You’re absolutely right mate! Keep wearing what you like 👍
You’re 100% correct bout it being in cycles. The cool part about thing is right now, baggy, form fit and everything in between is in because of the subculture thing you are referring to.
I agree with your assessment.Trends by definition are short lived while Style is timeless.
For sure!
I think this was a good video because we all want to make better decisions when purchasing clothes and to enjoy wearing our clothes as much as possible.
A very timely and well thought out video James! I've really started to reevaluate how I view clothes and my relationship with them, particularly trends. I'm not sure what's caused it, but I seem to be increasingly disillusioned by trends to the point where most of them feel very unappealing and I'm pretty much done with what is essentially a neverending cycle. I'm not trying to begrudge anyone who follows trends or say they're all bad necessarily because they certainly have a place, but I think it's a topic that would do anyone a bit of good to have a little introspection about.
ayo white kartik aaryan gives nice fashion tips
oversized clothing in general won’t go away. it’s here to stay. it won’t be exaggerated but it’ll be on the relaxed fit style.
Yeah true 👍
I am glad I am too mature for these trends. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I feel like metallic shoes will always be great for specific rave outfits with that one specific silver rave sunglasses.
Always hold my breath on these videos. Then I realize mostly everything I wear has been looking good since the 50’s so I should be good 😂
I love men’s fashion, but have never opened my instagram app because I didn’t want to be influenced by trends. Based on your video here I’m glad I never did.
I think you sincerely talk so much sense that you end up unintentionally taking the mickey out of some fashion style because you rationally point out how silly they are 😂
Haha. Not my intention, but glad it’s funny 🤣
crocs. i love em. crocs, i need em
Haha
I like leopard print, mostly because of my love of Greek mythology and vintage bodybuilding which frequently used animal prints
Fair enough! Enjoy it 👍
The Tabi has been around since 1988. The people who have been wearing them will continue to wear them long after people have gotten their looks off on social media.
Agreed 👍 I think they’re quite hyped at the moment but it will die down. As you say, people who truly like them will continue wearing them. Same as other things on this video.
Heavily distressed/paint-splattered jeans are so vile and always have been imho. I remember when Diesel pretty much revolutionised jeans with the Zathan 772s. Lovely quality denim in really cool 'washes' - the 772s being the absolute classics. And crazy expensive for their time. BUT of course, they had to keep things moving, and ended up making insanely vile ripped and splattered jeans. I guess that all trends have to go to excess before they finally die off!
Yeah exactly, just like the baggy jeans going impractically big, the distressed denim seems to have been grossly distressed!
bought the wales bonner silvers last summer and still have and love them, i dont really care about trends
Fair enough 👍
I think tabis will peak soon, but will drop off - fans of the shoe wore them pre-trend and will continue to wear them post-trend too
Really need a glasses guide vid from u or Harry
The big Prada loafers
I think your crystal ball is working perfectly!
Love your outlook on fashion, such a nice video
Thank you!
Tabis will stay forever
Essentials oversized hoodies and sweats have always been a staple and mainstay in fashion. It’s not going away. What will go away is the influencers pushing it. What we see on social media (RUclips Tik Tok etc) is just a small specific microcosm of what people are wearing or into. These trend setters barely represent the general public and what they’re wearing or seeking out. If you’re an influencer yeah you have to change and move through trends at a rapid pace or you’ll lose credibility and relevancy to your audience but the public as a whole don’t rock with these trends. When oversized pants were a thing a lot of people were still rocking fitted pants. Trends only matter to influencers. Nothing truly dies. Hell before the influencers were pushing the oversized boxy agenda there was a part of the culture that’s been rocking that look for years.
Another great video James, have a good day. ✌️
Thank you man, you too!!
I honestly don't care for trends i just wear what i like
Agree with all of the inclusions but regards over size or larger t's , think as long as there is hip hop / grime and skaters about don't think it will die off anytime soon (in street style anyway) compared to the "tabi" shoes (urgh) and the F.O.G style tops.
If those tabi shoes are twice as cool as normal shoes, then vibram 5 finger shoes are 5 times as cool!
Haha good point!
margiela has been doing tabi for a decade probably, along with other labels like visvim
I love that big baggy jeans have made more relaxed straight fits more common to find. The tabi, imo, is just unsustainable. I'm not a fan of the fact that you have to buy special socks to wear them comfortably. I don't like to have more clothes than I find is necessary. I have 12 pairs of socks to cover me should I not be able to do my laundry every 7 days like I usually do it
omg your right. I didn't think of the socks.
Great video mate!! ♥️
Thank you!
Loving your work James.❤
Thank you! 🙏
What do you think about Rhinestones/Crystal Embellishments?
Hair is looking great.
Where did you buy your flower lamp ¿ it looks amazing :)
Hey James I just wanna say I love your content ❤
Thank you! 🤩
1,000% agree. (even tho I don't want the oversized t trend to be over 😭😭 I think its almost done)
Yeah for sure! I’ll still wear mine, but I just don’t think it will be seen as ‘trendy’ (which is fine)
All these things will disappear becaused they are all extremes. Classics, that usually sit somewhere in the "sensible middle", are timeless. Wear what you want but classics are classic for a reason.
Very true!
I'm converting some of my jeans that are both too short (they ride up lmaooo) and unhemmed (I used.to think it was okay but it's coming apart) into flared pants with hems though I am going to be creative with how I extend and widen the legs. If I decide I hate it I can always take it in and make it more straight leg again. It's great to have sewing skills or work on them. 😅 I want wide legged pants but not the most extreme. Closer to no faith studios, they're very big but not quite comical. We'll see though, I bet they will become very silly. 😅
I have options atleast and maybe if I keep the patterns I can replaced the hemmed bottom when it gets all nasty and torn up.
The moto GP trend is one that I cant stand. It plays in to a common trend that I dislike. The "I'll dress like i do something I don't actually do", usually this falls under workwear. People will dress as if they have a manual labor job but in reality its the opposite.
I just feel like it's people putting on a front and that's why i dislike it.
@@Rossy167 I like how you decided to insult me at the end for no reason.
I was going to give a proper response but since you decided to behave like a child I just wont bother.

Very good vidoe mate 👍
Thank you bro! 👊
New balance tabbi customs hit different
as a tall guy with a short torso they can fuck right off with those short t-shirt cuts lol. They look kinda good on the models tho
I disagree about oversized tops. It's not a trend. It's a style. And I'm not talking about the exaggerated Balenciaga type of oversized. Just regular oversized.
def agree on the animal print thing... tbh it was never that cute to begin with even for womenswear 💀 it just looks so cheap
Hair looking great Kiddo, 👋to Daniel Simmons London Diaries hoodies then
Where did you get your lamp from?
I must admit I've really enjoyed getting into baggier clothes. I got a couple of really colourful jumpers for the winter, which I still wear - thanks cold rainy England - but I feel more comfortable in myself wearing them. I still haven't pulled the trigger on a pair of chunkier trainers to complete the look, despite having a couple of gift cards from friends, and am facing for the first time stuff fizzing in and out of stock [primarily looking at New Balance].
In general though, being happy in my choices in general and not being fussed how I might appear to others has been really healthy for me.
The style suits, so I'm having fun finding variations on it. :)
Thank you for another ace video, James. A real pleasure to watch :)
I do enjoy baggy stuff until it gets impractical - looks great! Thanks for watching 😊
tabis have been around tho
What sweatshirt are you wearing?
DSCRV washed black 👍
@@JamesLeung my man! what size?
I just bought a leopard print jacket RIP
oversize jeans use to be trendy in urly 90is ,, and was dead after only 2 years , animal print was trendy in mid 80is , and also don t lasted long , what wee will see next is fluo /neon clothing ,, that was popular in 80is ,
fear of god essentials is in decline because you can't even buy them in europe
And also crocs shoes❎
Yeah you’re probably right!
Just wear what you like
I hope we don't slingshot back to skin tight jeans and shirts. Tops and bottoms that drape just look better and are more comfortable at the same time.
Can I ask about the shirt that you're wearing? I love the collar.
It’s from DSCRV! 👍
There's nothing motogp about the clothes you showed in the video
hey James nice hairstyle. DO you use any product?
Thanks! Yes some American crew fibre to style and then some hairspray to keep it in place
These aren't trends, these are fads

curious where you live - @the point about seeing things online vs in person. If not in a cultural center that seems to be a through line with most digitally originated trends. Also, @tabis, I feel like they are a consistent visual disruptor, due to their avant garde silhouette. I feel like tabis have and do get trendy once a year, whenever the trend cycle gets predictable. then they naturally fall out of style, as people who do not resonate with the actual values of the shoe and were only into the disruption-trend element of it, are turned off again.
You’re absolutely right about cultural centres and how the Tabi goes in and out of fashion 👍 thank you for watching
Seen all these things before nothing but recycled 90s looks especially the oversized jeans.
Anything that is not aesthetically pleasing is a trend and will go away sooner rather than later.
Yep that’s how it goes!
Half of this is just Daniel Simmons core lol
