    I did this job yesterday. What a terrible time. I live in the rust belt so getting the rotor off was a nightmare which forced the e-brake pad off and pulled the pins with it. I was able to get one side done myself with many outbursts of curse words, then phoned a friend for a hand. I hooked the inside spring on the upper and lower then maneuvered it into place. Then installed with upper and lower pins/clips, then the adjuster/short spring, then finally that nightmare of a final outside spring. That order seemed to work best. I’m sure it’s not fun no matter what way you do it. Best of luck to anyone tackling this job.

    excellent video. i'm in the process of doing just what you did. yesterday two of us got one side done after about 3 hours. them we quit for the day and had a couple of drinks. today we will fight the ther side together. i've been a mechanic for 50 years and never fought anything like this before. the guys at jeep must have been smoking something funny when they designed this setup.

    Even though I own the 01 JGC 4.0L IN6, I tend to watch all videos for Jeeps. My jeep sat under a bunch of trees for over 3 years, so I’ve been restoring this Jeep Grand Cherokee for the last 5 years. I do all the work myself, no garage lift, just jack it up and do it from the ground, which is a pain but here in Hawaii, you have no choice. Overall, these Jeeps are so easy to work on. I’m so use to working on sports cars that having all this extra room to work with is a real luxury for me. All the things I have left to do on my Jeep, I can count on one hand, like the coils and insulators, the AC and the 150,000 mile tranny tune up, replacing the gasket, filter, two solenoids and the spring. There’s no reason this Jeep shouldn’t last my lifetime. It runs great and gets good gas mileage for a 2001 JGC Laredo. Great video and nice looking garage!
    Keep those videos coming! ❤️🇺🇸

    Try a cotter pin remover, with the twisted end. It seems to slip in and grab the spring end.

    Very shitty design because I had to replace a set on an 08. One thing I noticed is that you didn’t go as far as taking the pivot out and check if it’s operating freely. I highly doubt it is considering the rust. It’d be best taking it out, removing the E clip and the pin then wire brushing it and finally feeding it with anti seize. Again though, it’s a design disaster!

    If you attach the rear spring to both shoes and then fish them into place together, it's a thousand times easier.

      I sure so, it now has 180,000 miles on it and the wheel hub assemblies need to be replaced. Just bought a pair of Timken hub assemblies for it. That will be the next Expedition video. Should be tackling it in a few weeks.

    you need to pull the axles only way to do it without fighting it

    E brake tool pliers would have helped with the spring removal and install.

    Why do you need to push the caliper all the way back? I understand pushing it a little to relieve the pressure on the pads to the rotor. Also could have just took off the caliper and bracket together and not separate. Added to whole steps that weren’t needed imo.

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  Год назад

      You need to compress the caliper in order to make enough room for the new pads to clear the brake rotor.

      You may want to take the rear brake drum off on that side to see if something may have broke on that side.

      @@HomeOwnerRepairmaybe I'm wrong, but I thought only the Dana 44 had the disk brake, and the axle is held in by the bearing and 4 bolts - no clip at the diff

    My 1992 Miata had only one disk brake in back. Not two disk brakes, not a drum and a disk brake. Why is Jeep so stupid?
