Thank you for this video. I inherited what appears to be about 20K of my brother's cards. Most were purchased between 1989 and 2001. Frankly, I am a bit overwhelmed since they were stored in 3x3 3 ring binder pages within banker boxes. Most appear to be in very good shape. They are somewhat organized by team, but not always. I have started cataloguing them using the CollX app and I am about 3K into the effort. I had no idea the best way to document, organize, or even what should be considered valuable or not. My goal is to offload the collection since I am not a collector. A few questions, if you are willing to provide guidance. I hope that using the CollX app is an acceptable way to start cataloguing, it seems pretty solid so far. Should I keep the cards in the 3 ring protectors or remove them and put them in boxes like you do? I assume then it is best to organize by brand (set) and year? When do you recommend that I use penny sleeves and top loaders to protect cards? What are the one touches used for? Since most appear to be commons (less than 10 cents in value according to CollX) what is the best path to sell, e.g., by team, by set, by player with multiple different brands of cards? Thank you in advance for your guidance. Any recommendations on how to efficiently organize and eventually sell would be appreciated. This video was very helpful.
Great questions and I hope I can answer as best as I can for you: If you want to store a lot of cards while taking up the least amount of space, use boxes. Boxes will also allow you to organize and access your cards much easier. It is important to note, however, that taking cards out of binder pages does take awhile. If they are already in the binder, I would just leave them in there, unless you're looking to save on space and organize more precisely, then take them out. When to use penny sleeves: I use them on cards I think have at least a little bit of value (more so than the common card). I like to put penny sleeves on cards of big name players, serial numbered cards, rarer inserts or parallels, and autographs and relics. Obviously, don't use them on EVERY card (unless you really want to). When to use toploaders: I use them on cards that value at $1 or more (I find the prices of cards online using COMC, eBay, etc.). I also use them on cards for my personal collection, even if they aren't worth much. What are one touches? They are super sturdy protective cases for one singular card. They cost a lot more to use, but they display and protect a card very nicely. I use them on my higher-end cards to add a little extra protection. What is the best path to sell lots of cheap cards: There's many ways to approach this. I would group the bigger name players together and sell them as lots. The rest of the cards, I would sell as team lots. If there's a bunch of leftover cards, I would just sell them on a discount in one big bulk lot.
Thank you for a great response that really helps me with working through the process of getting this all organized. Based on your answer and to save space, I have ordered some boxes, top loaders and penny sleeves. You have no idea how much help this was! Thank you. @@EagleMan_TradingCards
nice collection and some awesome bob feller cards ,years ago cleveland indians came to my city for winter caravan and bob feller came with them and he sat at my table, he was so cool, signed everything i had too, i never ask him , he said you want anything signed
Amazing video and beautiful collection, I'd love to see more videos like this on yt, but the art of set building is becoming rarer and rarer. I have a smaller collection than yours (approx 133 k cards), but I love going through them and organize them.. great video man!
I put penny sleeves on every card. If you ever go to sell doesn't matter if they aren't valuabke and common. People will subconsciously feel better about the cards they purchase from you. That's why I always keep anything of values original box becuase if I ever wanted to sell, it will sell 1000 times faster. Not making it up. That's how people are. It portrays not only the item is like new condition but it let's rhe buyer know you take care of your electronics, collectibles or anything of value. Plus putting sleeves and top loaders on cards you will get more money. Period for your cards or the collection in whole. FYI
Great video. I have been looking for a way to sort my cards. I have about as many as you do and I've had a hard time trying to find stuff when I need it. Great stuff!!
Hi, thanks for sharing your collection. I have a question, what should I do with common cards? yeah they're not sought after, but at the same token, I spent money on them and can't just give it away or sell it for a discounted price just to off-load them. any suggestions?
Thanks for watching! Great question! Commons can be tricky to deal with. If you’re trying to make money off of them, you could sort them into a complete set and sell them as a set. You could sort them into team lots or player lots and sell them that way. It’s tough to sell commons. I tend to donate and sell bulk cheap lots to offload but if you’re making money it’ll take some time!
Very nice collection sir. I have over 500,000 as well and a good filing system is key. I do have 5000 card boxes divided like yours and 1 box is for numbered cards like 1 to 101 then 101 to 200 pn up the ladder. Certified autos separate from not certified. Have 2 others for vintage by year. Have over a 100 complete sets in binders and about 50 binders dedicated to one player each. Fortunately I am able to keep it all in a climate controlled room so I don't make "bricks".
Have you considered using TCDB for organizing all your cards? I have my collection cataloged on that site and love it for trading purposes. I am considering listing them for sale on sportlots, not sure what you thoughts are on them. As far as organizing my cards, almost all of them are cataloged alphabetically in cardboard boxes. Thanks for the great video!
Great video I think this might of helped me a little. I do have a question for you. My brothers came across 6 large boxes of baseball / football / basketball cards that my dad collected. From my understanding they were given to him many years back when he was coach for little league baseball. There are close to 3k or more.. Since my brothers did want them I took them since I like collecting things. Now i never done collections on baseball cards. I know some what players but how do I figure out the common cards and ones that are worth something. I guess back in the 80 they printed so many that they were filler cards or something like that. Do I have to check every card and see if they are worth something or would scanning them help on the price? Just trying to figure this out. I plan to keep them for myself but I would like to know what they are worth. How do you get started on something like this ?
And also I have a tiny collection of about 700 sports cards I started about three months ago but also I wrote this in 2024 not the same month you made this video so it got no bigger idea to be a fan of Pokémon and watched it on RUclips And then I got into sports cards and not going to lie the Pokémon industry is way bigger not I still LOVE sports cards. So keep uploading I love your channel se you later bye.👋
Yes I run a dehumidifier in the basement and that’s about it. I don’t go crazy with temp control (because the house is already well regulated) but I do take extra steps to protect my most valuable cards!
I just saw part of a video where someone bought over 77,000 cards for only $89.00! Granted there were the infamous junk wax era cards but, you would expect to land some much older cards from that amount!
Another Tribe fan here and been one since 1948. I was very fortunate in that I got to see Feller pitch a number of times and got to see Doby, Rosen, Hegan, Lemon etc play. Last time I saw Feller was when he was part of the opening of the Clippers new facility in Columbus. Got a few minutes of one on one time with him and realized just how nice he was..
I am fortunate to have a complete sign ball from the 1948 Cleveland Indian World Series winning team with L O u B. as playing manager and Hank Greenberg. As general manager. Only signature that's not on there in a satchel page. Instead there is a P I t c h e r named lyman Lindy that played high school ball In beaver dam Wisconsin With. my father and that's how I got the ball and he was sent down to make room for satchel page.
I agree. Those shelves are pretty old and I’ve been using them for a while. Seems like gravity got the best of them. I do plan on building my own shelves with plywood and 2x4s in the near future!
Thank you for the great video. It is interesting to see how other collectors organize, sort and value. Card sorting trays seem very helpful, I'd like to learn how to effectively use one. Also, heard that index cards make great affordable dividers. Question, why have you decided not to collect football, basketball and hockey cards? I prefer baseball and any type of vintage cards. Now only collect licensed products.
Great video man! Definitely enjoyed watching. Always interested in how people organize and sort their collection too! It's very personal and to each their own. I've been meaning to do the same (showcase my collection and process) but still working through the process and it's a very tedious endeavor! Keep it up man!
Hello Eagletradingcards,Great Video, I constantly go through my cards which I think I have around 30.000 cards, lots of commons, but my PC and Expensive ones are kept in a Metal Box and Safe Deposit Box,I am fearful of in case of a Fire that would be Defisatating to me, have you ever meet Bob Feller,I would Love to meet him, take care .
awesome video man. I make mags that support the penny sleeve to go inside. When you mag up better cards is a penny sleeve inside something that you go for, or do you use Ultra Pro and just put the card directly into the case? Thanks for the video, very organized. Although I collect basketball cards myself, I like how you went through and talked about the process of organization.
I don’t know why nobody seems to organize like I do ? Or do they ? I organize by Teams of course but I try and make my own sets , by no means complete just Quarterbacks, with a running back or two same with quarterbacks and wide receivers and and a couple of the teams good defensive players and I like too do that with all 32 teams in one box sets that I make and hopefully I’ll be able to sell them like that, I do mix in the really nice inserts with every team and a couple good rookies in every team as well ! Any opinions ? Thanks
That looks more like 250,000 cards to me. I have 9 shelves filled to the top for my ebay inventory and that is housing 700,000 cards with another 1.4 million cards in storage. Unless I'm missing something, your collection looks nowhere near my 700,000 cards spread out in 9 shelves. Anyways, it was still a good video.
Thanks for watching :) I didn’t show a lot of my stored away cards in the video, so you’d be right about it looking more like 250,000 cards. Your collection sounds impressively large! Cheers :)

How do you organize your cards? Comment below!
Spread out in every room, every draw. I’ll find cards in my car, in my jacket pockets etc.
Only have about 50,000. They are in a closet, stored inside Binders, 3,000ct and 660ct boxes.
I sort them with BCW 5000ct boxes, Using tall dividers and sort them by year, brand, set, numberd.
Great organised storage👏👏👏

Great video. I've watched it twice. Nice to come back to it 6 months later with more cards in my collection to compare sorting methods.
Where do I find that centering tool? I already googled it. Thanks.
I got it as a gift many years ago and unfortunately I don't remember where they got it. But it's certainly really cool!

Good job man. I love organization and it’s so necessary when dealing with these volumes and set types.
Thank you :) and thanks for watching! Take care!
where do you get the boxes wide enjoy for toploaders?
I penny sleeve, topload and put a top loaders sleeve on any card over 5 bucks.
Great video, organization is an on-going problem for me. Picked up some need tips from your video. I am also a TCDB user, and would recommend
You have them sorted like me. The only difference. I also have all my cards in excel sheets too.
Nice! I also use an excel sheet. It helps me visualize all my cards at once.
That's very impressive. Nice collection!
Great video. I have been looking for a way to sort my cards. I have about as many as you do and I've had a hard time trying to find stuff when I need it. Great stuff!!
This was really enjoyable to watch. Always fun to see how others organize and collect.
Thanks for watching :)
Nice collection. I feel better knowing I'm not the only collecting maniac. Kudos
I like the sealed packs in the card display. Fun idea! Thanks for taking the time to walk through this.
Amazing dedication on ur hobby. Have you used center stage app to help with pricing?
Thank you! I’ve never used the app before but I’ve heard of it, maybe I’ll give it a try!

How do you make your card labels?? Do you just cut paper or buy something in bulk that is larger than the card ??
I hand cut notecards! It’s cheap and it doesn’t take too long

Great video, man! Would you be willing to share your spreadsheet as a template?
I put them in a lot of boxes. 😂
A 2x4 and plywood custom built shelving would be better. I can see your shelving bending.

Are there different size 5k boxes ? top loaders are to wide..
Yes! Half of my 5,000 count boxes accommodate for the width of a top powder and the other half are more narrow and just fit the card width
Awesome video sir! I need to do this.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed, and I hoped it at least inspired you to go through your cards :)

Great video. 👀. That was a really good idea on putting cardboard in between the boxes so that you can slide them in and out. 🤝-Red
I sort mine by throwing commons in the garbage. You could consolidate all half million into about 10 cards and nit lose a dime.
You may want to move to metal shelves. They are starting to sag. Great collection though
I’ve noticed the significant bends in the shelves. They’re holding up and not touching the below boxes but I will soon switch to sturdier shelves.

I recently sold them all super cheap or gave them away :( sorry friend, next time.
Maybe next time love the videos
Thank you :) thanks for watching!
I have 99,569 cards
Can you send me some sleeves?
Seriously why are the white card boxes an arm and a leg to buy. No wonder people use the government cheese boxes 😂
I bought my last ones in the early days of lockdown. Haven't checked prices these days but if I add more cards I'll have to
