That helps a lot I heard some of Montreal and liked it but if Brion loves them that much I totally have to check them out and couldn't hear what artist he was even talking about ty
Yeh he did Matt! And it's very amazing how music connects in my life cus Jon Brion put me onto Chris Thile with the Punch Brothers. And he put me onto Of Montreal which is now my all time favourite band forever! Kevin Barnes is the best artist out today he's a renaissance poet and he's truly changed my life with his music I relate to everything he says in his music like I'm on the same wave length with him he also made me accept my sexuality which I'm Pansexual which was cool to find out he was to it gave me a productive view when people around me were all negative.
What's the song that plays at 00:19 ? I like the piano part a lot then when the bass kicks in I really feel like i've heard it before... Hopefully someone will see this and free me from this torment.
what the hell is the last musician? no one can hear the name jon says. is it iva kee what the hell it isn't even listed on the amoeba website. someone tell me what musician he says at the end.
If he likes Fats Waller on the organ I wonder if he'll dig Pearl White and/or Eddie Dunstedter? They both did swingy pop and jazz theatre organ and Pearl White also made some GREAT piano rolls (with the help of Roy Rodocker)
Would you buy the same albums every time you go to the record store? No you wouldn't. Him and Elliott were homies, I doubt he even had to go to a record store to get his material anyways.
It's a song by Jon Brion himself 'here we go'. ik believe it's from the soundtrack of Punch Drunk Love (which is in my opinion crap for the rest ;-( But this song is amazing!
@mozartfx1 Eh, I'm sure there are some topics about which you have strong opinions, too. His just happens to be music, which is also how he makes a living. Do you think that top 40 songs saturate media because of some sort of public consensus that they were the best songs? That's not how the music business works. And I really have no idea what you're talking about when you say that of Montreal "whine about living in a free country." Have you ever listened to of Montreal?
Don't get me wrong, I think Jon Brion is insanely talented and his artistic accomplishments are truly astonishing. But the bit where he categorizes Glenn Gould as a "fellow freakazoid" rubs me the wrong way. Not so much the "freakazoid" part...more so, the "fellow" part.
"....and shove down peoples throats." I love people with this attitude. NOBODYS forcing you to buy anything. Guess what? Some people enjoy POP music. If that offends you, tough shit. If you like listening to a bunch of hipsters whine about living in a free country (of montreal) go ahead. No one is forcing you or me to listen to anything. Man, some people just love to feel like a victim.
people need to stop calling him a genius , i think its starting to go alil to his head... he always comes off a bit pretentious and "high and mighty" opinionated in a nonchalant way hes definitely really talented dont get me wrong..i jus feel like he would get on my nerves listening to his opinion about shit
I could listen to Jon Brion give his opinion all day long.
So could Jon Brion
It's called "Here We Go," and it's from the PUNCH DRUNK LOVE soundtrack. It's AWESOME!!!!!
Love his Synecdoche, New York OST
jon brion is genius!
the last artist he talks about is Of Montreal who he then says he heard about from Chris Thile (from Nickel Creek)...does that help?
That helps a lot I heard some of Montreal and liked it but if Brion loves them that much I totally have to check them out and couldn't hear what artist he was even talking about ty
And more modernly of the band "Punch Brothers" who I would 100% recommend if you haven't listened. Chris Thile is amazing.
“Some band from England” haha
Apparently they released it for free what on earth was that about

That Chris Walla Record is amazing!
i think it was Of Montreal. he talked a lot about them towards the end.
I want his sweater.
1:52 cannot agree more with his opinion about of montreal/kevin barnes.. no wonder they did a record together later (false priest)
Genius. They close out the video with some eternal sunshine music, I believe it's the opening credits theme
I WANT THE GLEN GOULD!!!!
@holzy4565 Yes, he and Brion are friends from Southern Cal and have played together a good bit.
Punch Drunk Love, I believe it's from the main overture, right before the little old-romance-movie-sounding creshendo
Genius! ❤👍
The Grays - Ro Sham Bo was one of the best albums ever.
I wish they would press that on vinyl.
@@chrisnewton1701 You and me both. I am happy to have the 24/96 HD version at least though.
Epic

What was the band name he said at 2:04
He's talking about "Of Montreal" maybe Iva Key is some sort of nickname for Kevin Barnes, the singer of the band?? But he's talking about Of Montreal.
of Montreal
I'll have whatever he's having!!
Holy cow! Does this guy look like Neil Young or what!?
Is that Mike park?
Plus my ex girlfriend was (*is) a GIANT Of Montreal fan... wild.
@martinstatic hilarious, everyone's googling iva key :)) it is...i think he's the best thing going out there...you're right.
Who is iva key? What was he mentioning there?
If Jon digs it I will check it out.
I'm disappointed no elliott Smith albums.
he definitely already owns them all
