You can tell Tom was hooked when he got out of that Tomcat! The other actors were vague and dazed. Then Tom went on to get his commercial pilots license! He’s almost as accomplished as an airline pilot. Total badass.
LOL You're funny with "almost as skilled as a commercial pilot!" He's licensed to pilot a fighter jet, a commercial airliner, rotary wings, he's a licensed sky diver, deep sea dive licensed, and he has a realtor's license but yes, tell me how he's "almost as accomplished as an airline pilot." That's like saying Elon Musk is ALMOST as accomplished as a rocket scientist. No disrespect to rocket scientists or pilots of ANY kind, because those are huge achievements in their own rights. I'm just saying, you've got the arrow pointing in the wrong direction on that one assessment I think.
Actually, prior to being casted, Mr. Cruise had been taking flight lessons on Cessnas, but he didn't have his license just yet because it took much longer than he anticipated.
bro i 100% believe in an alternate universe Tom cruise is an actual fighter pilot but always dreamed of wanting to be an actor. Believe me all these dimensional realities are playing out for tom. At least we get the actor version that loves it all!! #tomcat
A number of Top Gun actors got to fly. They all got sick to the stomach except Anthony Edwards (Goose) but none of this footage was used in the actual movie.
They tried to film them while flying but the cameras back then were so huge and couldn't fit inside the F-14 So they used a mock up of the F-14 Box like the old Star Wars movie did I gotta say that theh really nailed the acting probably due to the aerial trainings the actors went through
@@guts-141 I read somewhere that it was first meant to filming when they were actually flying but the whole pilot cast vomit all over the place except Tom Cruise.
Val didn't fly. According to the full documentary of "The Making of Top Gun", Tony Scott called Val a wimp and the actor who played Wolfman said he had issues about going up and he thought it wasn't part of his contract or something. This probably who you don't see him in the water training or with the other actors when they went flying. Bet Val regrets not going up now. All the cockpit footage in the movie is from mock up cockpit with rear screen projection. They tried filming the actors for real during the flights but they were all sick apart from Anthony Edwards (Goose). Some have a stomach for it but many others don't.
Heard that Val didn't want this role at first bcs the movie is about the war(but his agent made him), so he refused to get in the jet but filmed in the simulator cockpit.

helicopters, too.

I believe Anthony Edwards also got his commercial license too in the late 2010s
You’re not supposed to like Tom Cruise, you idiot. Don’t you watch TV?
Actually, prior to being casted, Mr. Cruise had been taking flight lessons on Cessnas, but he didn't have his license just yet because it took much longer than he anticipated.
The fact that Tom was the only one to literally loved every second makes him better in his roles
I love how Tom is so enthusiastic.. Its so cute.
07:14 Love Tom's laugh, he really enjoyed his trips in the F-14 Tomcat.
Watching this you can tell this is what got Tom into doing his own stunts and being a thrill seeker lol
This isn’t behind the scenes. This is unused film showing goose and Mavericks long friendship going back to training. 😎
Anthony edwards with long hair I wasn’t prepared for
Yeah I think that interview was after the movie was released so he grew out his hair and shaved his mustache

I love this!! You can tell Tom loved it so much!! He's so cute!! 😍 I love that he does his own stunts!! I love him, my #1 favorite actor!! 🥰❤️💕🤗
Omg Tony Scott is so young!
We miss you Tony...
The irony of Goose talking about water survival...yeah fella, you might not be needing that bit...
Tom Cruise does the patti cake exercise twice as fast during the hypoxia exercise while the other guy goes twice as slow
This is a great behind the scenes of Top Gun 1. A great andrenaline junkie to a young Tom Cruise.
Thank you for this video. I love TopGun movies and this "behind the scene" of the first movie is precious !!
tom rocking that anti-nausea patch behind the ear at 5:01! i'd need 6 of them.
So sad that Goose didn't make it out alive after all that training.
What a helluva experience as an actor!! Once in a lifetime
Tom seemed to enjoy every second of training
Goose…missed you in Mav II
One of the better behind the scenes…thank you!
Fun as well as hard.... But Tom Cruise is full of passion
I love how they’re playing patty cake, :-)
Dude goose without his stache is wild✋😭
i hope that legacy sequels from now on will be as good as the new top gun.
Man that looks like fun going thru all that for the movie
5:03 Hey Cougar's back!
RIP Tony Scott you were above your big brother Ridley
Wasn’t it goose and Mav doing the patty cake 😂
Ur circle must b good to achieve d dreams. I lost at 9th.
I bet Val was too busy being a brat to do this. Rascal! 🤣😭
Dream is to fly in an f-18 or something Mann that would be cool
Survival Training Featurette - Behind the Scenes - Top Gun 1986
The don't make 'em like they used to.
I thought they didn't fly in the actual fighter jet in the first movie. Reports state that the cockpit footage was filmed with the actors on a gimbal.
A number of Top Gun actors got to fly. They all got sick to the stomach except Anthony Edwards (Goose) but none of this footage was used in the actual movie.
They also wanted to film the movie by adding cameras in the F-14 but cameras back then was huge and complicated unlike Top Gun 2
the gimbal part was iceman ,-9 - he did not f14 ride...
Lo mismo que en el filme de Reto al Destino " Con Richard Gere y Louis Gosset Jr , Y David Keith.
What is the version of danger zone at the start
yeah that’s what I’m looking for as well
Um dos melhores filmes dos anos 80
I know that only Tom Cruise was able to ride the f14.
wooow! thank you! 5:30 music please??
I think it’s called “Viper’s Dogfight”
A lot of that stuff was done in An officer and a gentleman (1982) whose success inspired Top Gun anyway
I thought the cockpit scenes were not filmed inside flying planes in the first top gun... they look filmed inside a studio... am I wrong?
They tried to film them while flying but the cameras back then were so huge and couldn't fit inside the F-14
So they used a mock up of the F-14 Box like the old Star Wars movie did

They filmed some shots but the results were so bad they couldn’t use them.
@@guts-141 I read somewhere that it was first meant to filming when they were actually flying but the whole pilot cast vomit all over the place except Tom Cruise.
Whoa!?
JA¡, ANTHONY EDWARDS SE PARECE A DREW BARRY MOORE 😂
1m43 you should have paid a bit more attention to the training tho, and watched the canopy!!
they stole the training from Officer and a Gentleman
Yeah but did Kenny Loggins train as well
Where is Val?

Pretty sure that's Val jumping in the water at 2:30 that everyone boo's. Looks like him and i remember seeing this clip in the Val documentary.
@@emmmie489 you can see that's the Hollywood actor. It's on his helmet too
@@coolbeansjr oh yeah 😂 didn't even notice that. My mistake. Strange to put that clip in the doc then haha
